I looked at the adapters but figured, for the money, I was better off getting another rack – glad I did as the pendle is lovely. You know the 561 comes with kit to fit a qr or 20mm?

I had a 591 which was effective but I never liked the amount the bikes wobbled with it, and you have to be careful to line the frame up in the grip properly. Changed to a 561 (qr/20mm) and a pendle (15mm) fork mount rack and never looked back – easy to mount on the roof, fitted all my bikes between them and absolutely solid. The pendle was better quality but a bit more of a faff to fit on the bars. The 561 a bit more plasticy but had the locking qr.

I’ve changed to a tow bar track now though – might be willing to sell the racks if you’re interested 🙂

Cheers for that – very good for a freebie :). Some great camera work going on there.

Still about half an hour left to catch it too…

Yet another vote for Yvan at Peisey-Vallandry MTB. We got his name from the owner of the Chalet we stayed at in Peisey.

Top bloke with some impressive riding skills, good sense of humour and he coped really well with our group of 10 mixed riders. He even got us off the top of the mountain safely when a huge **** off storm came in 🙂

If you’ve got matchmaker compatible brake levers, get a left handed reverb. If not, get a right handed one and run the lever upside down on the left (Google it and you’ll see what I mean). Sounds like the right side of your bars is getting a bit cluttered 🙂

Thanks – top PSA. Ordered a few of their bundles to try the new stuff – bargain, especially with TCB too 🙂

Hiya Doug – didn’t know you were out there again this year. We’ll wave as we leave on the 13th, or maybe throw stones at you coz we’ll be jealous

mikewsmith – La Thuile is definitely on the list and I’ve spotted a few interesting tracks over that side which do look like they could be fun .

Bland – that would be great if you could. Email in profile if you get chance. Cheers.

Love the place (Les Arcs) and can’t wait to go back!

Bland – do you mind if I pick your brains on route finding. We’re heading over there for the 2nd time next month – 3rd-13th July, 3 days in the Loft house then a week in a Chalet in Peisey. We went 2 years ago and used some maps/tracklogs to find La Varda, Double Header, Grange Hill and a few other – it didn’t prove that hard to be honest. You have to try a little harder than following sign posts but we were fine just following our noses for the most part

We were hoping to get some proper guiding in this year but, given the clamp down, It’s proved a bit more difficult to arrange. We’re going with a day’s uplift with Coolbus (no guide as such but they point you in the right direction!) and a day with a French guide from Peisey, the Chalet owner put us in touch with.

Do you have any more recent info (GPS tracklogs or map info) – I’m guessing any info I’ve got would be repeat what you’ve already done?

I’m pretty certain if your maps were supplied on the sd card then they are transferable between devices, assuming they stay on the card and you don’t try copying them to a different sd card.

We used to have a 2.5 A/T LWB and it was a fantastic beast. It was great for towing and aged pretty well considering, except for the electronics which seemed to just domino – after a while very few “bells & whistles” worked. Chassis rust was the main reason we got rid but it’s still chugging away doing light duties for a friend of a friend 3 years on.

Have to say, I do prefer the replacement though (Kia Sorento) as it’s a bit more refined, doesn’t have the annoying steering play and is considerably lighter on fuel.

I used to live near Woodford too – great memories of the huge, window shaking, rumble during test days and riding round the back lanes for the airshow.

Can’t describe how excited I am that she’s coming to the Welshpool Airshow of all places! (cunningly piggy-backed onto Cosford 🙂 ).

Devilles & Vip’r here too. The Devilles in particular have transformed the bike (replacing some Float 32s). I also had my doubts re longevity etc and I’ve heard stories – the fact JTech started servicing them swayed me in the end (just down the road from me and a very nice chap). I may just pop the lowers off every now and then to check though..
Just hope I never have to try out the warranty service!

That’s great – thanks for the info guys.

Real shame though as we were hoping to go for a few days mid-week at the beginning of July. I guess we’ll need to find another venue.

Cheers floki. Problem is, some say that and some of the websites say “end of June to early September”. It’s impossible to get an accurate answer at the moment.

It’s the same with a lot of the Alpine ski resorts though to be fair. I realise MTB is very much a secondary business for them but it’s a real shame when it’s becoming more and more popular. It makes arranging a trip so difficult. Looks like we may just spend a few more days in Les Arcs

Another vote for the Edge. They happen to be on offer on Sportpursuit at the moment too 🙂

Unfortunately not. You can’t “send” stuff as the Edge 500 has no wifi/bluetooth functionality, and neither has a MicroSD slot so you couldn’t transfer them that way.

Edit, actually, you my be able to plug the Edge directly into the nexus 7 using a USB “On The Go” lead, but I’m not sure how easy it would be.

Edit again. In fact, does the Edge 500 actually have mapping – I thought it was only the 800 (or older 700) series that did that?

Nant yr Arian is probably my favourite “trail centre” – it just feels a lot more out in the wilds whilst still being a guaranteed good ride in almost any weather.

Personally, I prefer the variation of the Syfydrin trail that peels off half way down the fireroad descent then heads north towards the Mach 3 trail, before doubling back and covering all the best bits of singletrack on the way home. I think it was an old MBR killer loop.

    A lovely place to ride.

The problem as I see it is, if any professional riders compete in a race not officially sanctioned by UCI/BCF, will be liable to a 1 month ban & fine. There are numerous series (UK Gravity Enduro being an obvious one in this country) that aren’t sanctioned.

edit, having said that, they do appear on the BCF calendar – not sure where that puts them. The World Enduro Series most certainly isn’t sanctioned though.. I guess it depends on how rigorously national bodies enforce the ruling.

You’ll need to pay for the car park (£2-4), you’ll have a great ride, they’ll be lots of other folk there but you probably won’t see many out on the trails unless you’re really quick or have a problem – then someone will catch you up and probably offer to help. Oh, and there’s a little diversion at very end if you do the Minatour (family) route as they’re putting an extension on the visitors centre.

It’s all good there, especially at this time of year 🙂

And one more time for the weekday regulars.

Gutted as I don’t even remember putting it down. It’s got my contact details on the start up screen if anyone does find it….

Keeping fingers crossed for a little while longer…

I think there’s an article on Sauze on bikemagic at the moment.

I’ve heard good things about the riding there but I don’t think many lifts run in summer.

We’re heading down there for the 2nd time this July and it rocks!

As above, do a search on here – there’s been loads of threads on the area in the past few months.

Evoc – cost a lot but I certainly haven’t regretted it. I’ve done cardboard boxes and cheap bags but the Evoc got my bike to NZ and back (via a few stops) with the bike untouched. The bag took a fair battering but survived well as well. A LOT easier to pack too as it’s phenomenally well designed.

Only skim read this thread as at work but one thing I would suggest if your having problems at night is try something called “adaptil”. It comes as a spray or plug in diffuser and is basically a pheromone that the bitch produces when she’s feeding and it acts to calm her pups. Works very well in this sort of situation.
Don’t get to bogged down in fine detail re feeding – just get into a routine and take him outside to toilet after eating then praise him when he goes.
May take a bit if time but it’ll be worth it. 🙂

    Oh, and don’t withhold water.

I’ve been running roof bars and racks for years. The 591 is a bit easier to get the bike on/off but I always hated the way it wobbled on the roof, plus you do need to be careful when positioning the bike in the clamp – I’ve had a bike topple over on the roof (my fault but very annoying)! I changed to a 561 and a Pendle 15mm fork mount carrier and much prefer them. Bikes sit much lower on the roof and are rock solid.
I am probably selling the 561 (and Pendle) if you’re interested as I’m changing to a tow bar rack now. 🙂

Hmm on the phone so only just read the description. It would appear someone would be that stupid! Equally, no one is really stupid enough to follow the email and “by it now” are they……… really?…

Sinking when you sit on it doesn’t sound like a bleed issue tbh. The manual does say if the post still drops a bit when you sit in it, it needs to go back to the manufacturer. Is it still under warranty?

Staff member selling under the name? Could be dodgy but surely no-one stealing an eBay ID is stupid enough to use one like that?
