MisterT – I have to agree with everything you just said. I had the same route – E-5 to E-120 and I haven't looked back.

Now I've put some suitable forks (maxle'd rev's) and brakes (Elixirs) there' just no stopping it. The one BIG problem is I've now run out of excuses – it's all my fault now when I ride like a ****t 🙂

Enjoy it. Not sure where you ride but the bumpier & rockier the better – it really is wasted in trail centres 🙂

Given the price of bikes & cars and the problems I've had with "cheap" carriers in the past, I'd always recommend going with the best rack you can afford.

Having said that, I wouldn't recommend Thule again after the problems I've had recently 🙁

We're off that way next week for 8 days :). We're staying s/c on a farm near Ringford then over to Inners for 1 night. can't wait…

STATO – I think you could be right, although speaking to Thule yesterday they assured me this shouldn't happen and the adapter should fit any 20mm forks properly.

If I have to fork out (see what I did there?) another £30 for a 2nd adapter, they can have the rack back – maybe be I'll look into these new Pendle ones??

Ok, so I've decided to keep to rack and fitted it at the weekend. More problems!

Trying to mount the bike on the rack and the 20mm adapter won't line up – the only way to get the forks low enough to line up & pass the maxle through is to splay the fork legs apart so the adapter rests on the fork above the top of the dropout tab (hard to explain without photos I know). This means there's only a couple of mm of metal in contact with the adapter.

I can't believe this is normal but can anyone confirm that the 20mm adapter does normally fit flush against the dropouts on Rock Shox forks (Revelations)? Dave?

Just something from Wilkinsons/the supermarket/your local pet shop will do.

    NNNooooooooooooooo! 😯

Any flea/worming treatment from a supermarker/petshop is a waste of time (Bob Marten, Johnsons, supermarket own etc etc). Bigger per shops can sell frontline which is fine for the cat and I think you can get acclaim or staykill from a chemist.

If you're using Advantage or Frontline Combo from the vets that has some environmental activity though so you'll probably be fine.

Conjunctivitis in kittens = common. So long as theres no damage and he's not got flu he'll be fine.

And if he's still really scared, look for something called Feliway – spray or plug in pheremone that really chills them out. It's great for your situation – imagine how stressful a new home, new owners, no mum is. Your vets should have some.

I think mine might have a red spacer between the smallest cogs. Can't remember though really and at work at the mo so not really much help!

    Hmm. fair enough.

Looks like I'll have to accept the limitations and use a seperate lock – I tend to anyway but it's just handy to know there's at least some sort of lock in place when driving or when nipping in to a shop for a quick snack 🙂

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

Martin_pendle – that's interesting. It sounds like you guys are using a similar solution to the Thule one then. Don't suppose it's lockable is it 😉

Thanks for confirming the lack of issues with the fork manufacturers too 🙂

Dave – thanks for the info. Good to hear it works ok.

And yes – I guess it would be hard to secure it using a Maxle but when you look at the work thats's gone into the QR locking lever etc surely it wouldn't be that hard to engineer something similar for the 20mm adapter they market it with.

    Thanks for the replies.

Def 20ml (Revelations with Maxle-lite) it's a reasonable fit but there's a bit of play (I'm sure it'll tighten up when the maxle is clamped but still not impressed). I'm pretty sure the majority of the axle is plastic (don't have it to hand) – I think thats where a lot of the weight saving over the standard one is.
As for the concerns from fork manufacturers, yes there used to be issues with some not fitting and some manufacturers (Pace especially) talking about not honouring warranty claims if the bike was carried this way. That was a few years ago though I think & forks generally seem a bit beefier now :).

DickBarton – yep, that's all the problems I had. Especially with the old Maverick forks (24mm axle) – that's why I thought everything would be sorted with the new forks 🙁

Has anyone actually used these with 20mm though?

Looks like I'll have to bodge a lock for it or send it back. Ho hum.

Just out of interest, has anyone used this rack with 20mm forks? In particular, one with a maxle(lite).

Just wondering – I assume it's all stable but I'm considering taking it back at the mo and just looking for reassurances?

In 2009 it seemed that Revelations were the same as Pikes but air sprung (’09 Pikes were coil only), so were lighter but not quite so plush(?).

For 2010 they seem to have overhauled them with new damping (Mission control), new lowers (Power bulge!), and 150mm travel. Not sure what difference that lot makes though – I’ve got some ’09 ones and love ’em 🙂

Z1ppy – If your talking about what I think you are (the “service”) yes they do that and will replace your ipod (with a refurbished one) if it’s knackered. Unfortunately the service comes in at not much less than you can buy a brand new unit for ($180 for a touch, inc P&P).

I found this out just after discovering how little iPods like water 🙁

Surely it’s not a suprise that exchanging currency last minute in the Airport gets you a poor rate?

Having said that, last time I looked (a couple of months back), you could get a very competitive rate if you ordered currency online for collection in the airport the next day.

I’m hoping to do it as an on-the-line entry.

It’s not far from me and should be a good all weather course round there. Interesting route profile though!!

And I guess we must also have the usual Daily Mail outpouring of scandal stirring and revelations.

Personally I just believe everything I read in the paper/see on TV. It must be true!

Yep – as above you need to put your foot down here.

It could quite easily still be a soft tissue injury putting pressure on the nerves but, this far down the line with it still getting worse, I’d either insist on a 2nd opinion or brace yourself for a few hours at A&E.

What jfeb said – try before you buy or buy 2nd hand.

A shorter stem should improve handling but may make things a bit sketchy on steep climbs. I’d go with a 70mm first and see how it goes.

Big up to the SRAM crew from our team too – sorted the annoying clunking on my revelations for a donation and swapped another guys cassette over under warranty with a free upgrade to a pg990.

Some minus points for the physical and emotional damage caused by my over-the-bars incident on their mini-bike challenge though. Apparently it was the most impressive crash they’d seen off the first section 🙂

Did anyone actually complete that thing?

My other half was saying she saw people through the night just cutting up onto the Kenda Climb straight from the road, cutting out the whole first 1/3 of a lap and arriving fresh for the big climb.

Again she didn’t get any numbers but there really is no excuse.

Unfortunately I have to agree with some of the comments about the course this year. Very much more of an up hill/rutted slog with not much pay back.

As for the Hard/Easy option it did turn into a bit of a joke. Surely the idea of an easy option is that you pay a time penalty for not doing the more technically challenging option – the fact that the easy option was both much easier and Much faster, made the best descent of the course almost redundant – I did it on the first lap & loved it but couldn’t justify the penalty after that.

There was a more serious atmosphere too this year. I was Gob-smacked to hear the even the guys in a team of 10 camping next to us talking about their sub 40min laps and tactics on beating the other team. It seems the old XC pot hunters have entered the 24 hour race scene!

Great event but not sure I’ll be back.

Bugger – just bought the Kings of Leon album last week too!!

I’d recommend it, esp at that price!!!

Edit: It does seem to be mainly older stuff – still a bargain though 🙂

I quite like it personally 🙂

Although trying to drink a fizzy energy drink half way round a lap, just after the “kenda climb” does lead to fairly nasty after effects 😐

Possibly but I doubt it – The Reba is their short travel light weight race fork so it would seem a bit bonkers to make the weight of the u-turn stuff obligatory.

I assume shops are just having to wait for 2010 stock now as ’09 is hard to come by?
