Thanks Stumpy – I’ve used the garmin service in the past but wasn’t sure how much it was now, thanks for the info.

And yes, I’ve tried the drying. And the gt85 squirt in the port. The rest of the unit is working fine but I’ve got a few rides stuck on there and I’m running out of battery charge 🙂

Only reason I bit the bullet and bought my Vip’r & Devilles was the fact James at Jtech started servicing them. Sure enough I had a small problem with the shock and Bos/Surfsales were useless. The guy I spoke to had no idea what the problem was; I spoke to James who had already sorted a fix for it!

Amazing products, crap after sales – such a waste.

I mentioned that I could regularly get my HR well above 200 on hard rides (early 40s) last time I saw the nurse at my local practice. ECG, blood tests, chat with the doctor and of for a quick echo soon but the general consensus was, if you don’t feel faint and can keep on going, there’s unlikely to be anything wrong.

Another vote for Smudge and mtbbatteries.com here. Yes, there are always folk who are going to go with the cheapest they can get and good luck to them – I’ve done the same in the past and nothing wrong with that. It’s just refreshing to have a light that arrives when you order it, works well, looks good and you have great backup should something go wrong. I feel it’s a happy medium.

Briefly trialed the EOSM when it first came out – nice to handle but painfully slow autofocus so possibly not the best for action shots. There’s a new one due next year I think with improvements including faster AF. No dates yet though.

Good stuff – thanks mint5auce. Looks like I’ll be committing after all then

Yep – just checked again. At the payments page it has a processing fee of £3.25 added to the bill. I can’t even see a way of entering more than one person so you could share the cost.

Just found this event – looks like good fun and could be interesting given the time of year.
The entry is a bit weird though – you can save £5 by entering in advance, but the entry website charges over £3 in fees. I think I might just wait and see what the forecast in and enter on the day 🙂

Interesting how CRC stock levels change with the promotions that are on too. I’ve been hovering over the purchase of a new Shadow+ mech recently and so have noticed the price change.

When they had a general 10% off promotion, the price went up 10% to compensate; during the latest offer, they stated it as “out of stock, expected in January”. I guess this explains why they’re suddenly back in stock again!!!

Just a little note to say thanks for the info on this. Just got a GoPro and mid life crisis so I think it’ll all come in very handy 🙂

Thanks guys, I’ll have a look at those bar mounts as I quite fancy some shots from the seatpost and don’t fancy a strip of plastic as the only security!

I’ve had a Pair of XTs on my Hard Tail for the past couple of years and, touch wood, they’ve been fine. They actually really surprised me the abuse they’ve tolerated, especially as that tends to be a winter hack bike.

Avids are a bit fiddly to set up and the “tri-align” washer system is a faff but, with time, you can usually get the to run silent – loosen the bolts, wiggle everything around, pull the brake lever a few times then hold on & carefully tighten the bolts up again. It can take a few attempts.

Having said that, they do run close to the rotors so aren’t very tolerant of warped discs.

Thanks Dragon – was that the “Killer loop” or the one that heads up to the east of Mynydd Ddu? Either way I’m hoping it won’t be too bad.

Wow, just wow! Seen a few of these but that has to be one of the most spectacular. Great filming.

Top PSA. Mine arrived today – full retail kit with all the spares, rotor and fitting kit (post and Is mount). Just need to swap the cable on one to use it on the rear.

Thanks Op – very pleased 🙂

Very best of luck with that mate. They always have to give you the absolute worst case scenario with these things and fingers crossed you won’t come close to it.

Long term Elixir user here and, after sram replaced the god awful CR levers with the current design I’ve not really looked back. A little more fiddly to set up perhaps but strong, well modulated power and very little noise.

At that price it would be rude not to. Now please stop with the PSA frenzy – it’s costing me a fortune!

Edit, thanks to the Op btw 🙂

Another yes here. Almost as effective as a Neoguard/innertube job but way better looking. Bit ott to use all the other stuff (crud catcher etc) as well though (imho 😉 )

Cheers OP – pair of Spitfires and some Savant approach shoes for £60 🙂

Incidentally, if it is storage mites your dog is allergic to, you can minimize the problem by always storing dry food in a sealed (air tight) container and cleaning thoroughly between bags. Storing portions in a freezer also kills them off but is obviously a lot more hassle.

    Hope that helps

edit – no worries. Didn’t mean to criticize but it’s a pet hate of mine to have people coming back to the surgery having ignored my advice because of stuff they read on the internet 😉

I think perhaps you’ve misunderstood your vets recommendations. Chappie is often recommended as a cheap, simple, relatively hypoallergenic diet for dogs than find some of the normal stuff a little too rich.
You can’t get skin mites from food but dogs can be allergic to storage mites that can infest large, open, bags of dry food (or the containers they’re stored in). This in turn leads to itchy skin.

Every food is different though and I wouldn’t have thought STW was the best place to get a 2nd opinion tbh (I’m making quite a few assumptions in my advice).

James at Jtech gets my vote. Top bloke and he fixed the knocking from my vip’r shock when the importers didn’t want to know. My devilles feel better than day 1 after he serviced them too.

Yep. Don’t waste your time with BOS themselves – life’s too short! Give James at JTech a ring – he should be able to sort you out.

I’m pretty sure all you need is a garmin connect account (easy to set up), then you can export any routes as a gpx file. At least that’s what I’ve done in the past.

I’d download it for you if I was on a proper computer.

dirtycrewdom – yep, that’s the likely next step. I need to get more info from the vendor on any problems (subsidence etc) they’ve had in the past then phone a few places.

Anyone got any recommendation for insurance companies I could contact (many of the online searches won’t take “abnormal” properties)

DrRSwank – yes, I agree that is a concern. The current owners have lived there for a long time and done a lot of work on it – their argument is the standard “it’s been here for 500 years so another few won’t make a difference”. I am wary of the ongoing upkeep costs though

I’m not too worried about the restrictions on changing things as it would appear the listing for this particular building only affects the external front/sides of the house. Plus we wouldn’t really want to change anything for a long time anyway.

This thread made me check for the first time in ages (I try to ignore that side of Strava these days) – bizarrely, not only have I still got a Coed y Brenin KOM (1/2293) but I seem to have acquired loads I knew nothing about. Personally I love the “you’ve lost your KOM you knew nothing about on a segment you didn’t know existed….now go get it back” emails 🙂

It’s a strange (and inaccurate) world this Strava zone!!!

mikey74 – J-Tech can certainly service BOS suspension (James has my Vip’r & Devilles at the mo and it’s the only reason I took the plunge) but they’re not doing warrnty stuff. That’s Surf Sales department, although after a phone call to them last week, I wouldn’t bother trying if you do have problems.

An official Ride London photographer taking pictures of all riders participating captured the stolen bike, with race numbers still attached

From the police report. Looks like the guy left the number on and rode past a photographer.

Great info on this thread – much appreciated.

Just to add a word of WARNING to any Deville owners out there, DON’T believe the manual when it says only service the forks every 6-12 months. I’ve had mine for just over 6 months of not particularly hard use (I tend to use my winter HT in the real mud/slop etc) and thought I’d play it safe. Dropped the lowers and found a nice score mark along the length of the stanchion. From a brief telephone conversation, the chances of BOS warrantying this is next to zero so prevention is much better than cure!

Not sure really. I’ve always got on well with them – nice and warm in the winter and wick well when it’s a bit warmer out. I’m often amazed at how wet the inside of my jacket is at the end of a ride while I’m nice and comfy.

I know some folk don’t rate it that highly but you pays your money…
