  • How Long To Rebuild A Bike? – Back From The Dead

Yup. Braved the skating rink & carnage of the M54 to get here. It's getting home again I'm worried about if the forecast's anything to go by !! 🙁

Well I never got on with Brauns. Had a Philips one for the past few years and it's ace.

Much less skin irritation, shaves take 5 mins rather than 15, the blades last longer and it's easier to keep clean

Not always the most helpful but yes, a call to the RSPCA would be my advice if you're worried.

Does depend on the breed to some extent but frozen drinking water isn't good under any circumstances!

I'd definately agree with the "check everything twice sentiment".
Also, don't secure them if you've got a bad hangover – I've got dents in the roof to prove it but my fault as I didn't have the frame positioned right in the clamp (especially important with the 591. You can always back things up with some toe clip straps.

Yep – no problems here either. Used to use 591s, now a combo of 561s and Pendle racks.

I've had more damage done to my bike when I've put it in the boot than it's ever had on the racks.

Why would anyone be described as "fragrant"?!

There's some great footage of Eastridge "DH" from round then too. Just search for "Steve Peat Eastridge" on Youtube for a great blast from the past – still bloomin quick with no suspension, tioga disc wheels and silly narrow bars 🙂

    It's off sky sports too:)

For once we've got a proper "season!"

Got one last month and love it. Kept me toasty warm through the recent cold weather with a thin fleece baselayer beneath and no dampness at all from sweat (Unlike my eVent jacket).

Not sure what it'll be like in the summer but the zip off sleeves certainly make it more versatile. From what others have said, it's great in all but very warm weather, and why would you want to wear a windstopper if it's that warm??

Edit. Oh, and why wouldn't you wash it regularly? I have and it's fine!!

Lot's of clothes shops will only offer some sizes in the sale

I think that's generaly because the sale items are just the stock they've got left. I don't know anywhere else that has different sizes for sale at the same time for different prices!

I've found Orange generally the best in the Welsh hills. Def varies though and none are brilliant. The coverage guides are a waste of time too. Were you thinking of a particular region?

Loving this thread! I was going to put something about the problem with England/Wales being full of windgers but this is far more entertaining. Especially the international football – bring on the World Cup 🙂

    Keep it up guys 🙂

But CRC appear to be the only shop that offers different prices for different sizes of the same item.

Don't start me on that. It's one thing that always puts me off looking on their site for stuff. You pretty much know that whenever you see a good price for something, the "normal" sizes/colours will be significantly more expensive.

I've just gone with Greenbee (John Lewis). Same under writer as M&S (axa), similar cover but up to £5000 per item rather than £3000 and significantly cheaper for me. And £100 cheaper than Zurich who wouldn't include bikes.

No idea what they're like for claims – hope I never have to find out.

edit: Both cover any item up to a particular value as part of the contents insurance and both include MTBs in that.

Bugger. Pearce Cycles Uplift @ Hopton's been cancelled too!

Well I just watched it and really enjoyed it.

Yes ok the plot's been done many times before, it tried to play the "pc" card a bit and some if the characters were a little ott but how many films aren't like that these days. The visual effects, especially in 3D were totally emersive and 2.5 hours flew by.

It's just good at what it claims to be-entertainment for all ages.

Bet it was phenomenal in IMAX?

I've got one and love it. It doesn't sway around as much as others at speed (like the 591) and the bike sit's securely, lower on the roof.

Bit more of a hassle having to remove the wheel, and the 20mm adapter can bit of a bodge to set up initially (I had to file a small amount off the ends to fit my Revevaltions). Also you can't lock the bike to the roof if using the 20mm adapter. Otherwise it's great, especially for QR forks.

I'm getting another one I like it so much but this time it's the Pendle version as I need a 15mm through axle adapter.

edit – I've also had a bike fall out of a 591. My fault as I don't think I did the clamp up tight enough but equally not something that could have happened on the 561.

madeinyorkshire – fair comment but I don't think you can buy the 7000 anymore? I got one the cheap way (bought the Road Angle satnav & added the software myself) and really didn't get on with it – slow, clunky and way too bulky to be on the bars. As for the Satnav, my eTrex does a better job of route finding!

The 2800 seems a much better thought out unit – handier size and much faster processor so the maps update & scroll almost instantaneously.

    imho of course 😉

The only one of those you can actualy use memory map maps on is the Adventurer. The Satmap or Garmin units can only use their own proprietory maps at significant extra costs.

My Bro's got the Adventurer but hasn't had chance to use it yet. Seems a nice little device.

Wow – Kbrembo – those pics are amazing. I got a few good pic's (about 100!) in the Welsh hills but not that standard 🙂

Glad you had a good ride – you can't beat riding in the snow, especially when it's nice and quiet 🙂

iain1775 – nope, don't mean that new stuff. I mean the relatively new stuff by swinnertons, leading to the short boardwalk section. Not on for riding closed sections of trail – there's enough less well known stuff there not to have to ruin everyones hard work!

I've had a few orders from CRC & wiggle over the past couple of weeks. Some have taken a few days, some have been next day – no real pattern.
Equally, several Christmas cards I posted on Monday have failed to reach folk by today. That's not my fault and I don't feel guilty. I'm just a bit miffed that cards haven't arrived – I know who I blame 🙂

I guess it's frozen a bit harder since then though?

2nd the slippy bits on the new rock slabs – ended up on my arse after touching the brakes on the rock! The rest of it was fine, fast and dirt free (except for the cheeky bit through the woods as mentioned above – V boggy in the switchbacks).

The DHs are running well though and the bits over by the Monkey trail were great fun too 🙂

Bugger. Ordered one from aspire before I'd read these-thanks for the replies anyway.
I didn't know betd did one!

Oh well- 3-4 week wait for me now. At least the price wasn't too bad, assuming customs don't take a fancy to it …

Nothing on the Welsh Borders this morning!

http://Www.recovermyfiles.com worked for me when 3 HDDs all corrupted in the space of 6 months a couple of years ago.

You can download the program and run it for free, then buy it if it finds stuff for you.

    Good luck!

I have to agree with scienceofficer. I've been really impressed with "Squirt" so far. Stood up to some pretty horrible conditions with out any grinding/graunching at all. I carry a bit of wet lube just in case but haven't had to use it yet. Nice to get home without all the usual cack on the chain too

Again only been using for a couple of months so not sure on longevity but so far so good 🙂

Oh, and some (my endura included) actually recommend Steam ironing (on low "silk" setting) rather than tumble drying to revive the DPM.

I guess the key is to follow the instructions on the jacket

Some manufacturers actually recommend 'normal' detergents to ensure that all the muck is removed – I think the eVent material is particularly reliant in cleanliness for it's waterproofness.

I use liquid non bio stuff every time it gets dirty. I'm still not convinced it's 100% waterproof but thats another story 🙂
