Yep, entered here. It’s my “local” track so rude not too, plus it’s a great fun place to ride.

yeah but I could probably get just as much enjoyment out of it* by spending a lot less

You’re absolutely right – I have just as much fun on my HT as I do on my new FS bike.
There’s a combination of consumerism and retail therapy at play obviously but, I’ve found my riding has changed a lot over the past few years – doing more DH oriented riding with mates, entering more extreme races (proper enduros, Mega etc) and the bikes I ride have developed accordingly. Plus I’ve gained a nasty habit of snapping stuff…..

Yep. I spend a fortune on my ‘hobby’, probably more than I can reasonably afford.

Without it though, life would be a lot harder to get through and you can’t put a price on happiness can you 🙂

I bought the OS map version, then got a HR & Cadence monitor cheap off eBay/Handtec. The OS mapping is handy and is an awful lot cheaper if you buy it with the unit rather than on it’s own.

You can make your own maps using Mobile Atlas or something similar but it’s not particularly straight forward, and custom maps take a long time to load when you boot the Edge up.

LGB – I can certainly recommend a Zesty. Mine’s just bedding in after Kielder last weekend and it’s lovely 🙂 ….

…I did have a quick look at a Mojo but a frame and fork would’ve cost almost as much as I paid for the whole 714.

    Happy hunting

Pretty certain Oliver Coats wasn’t there either unfortunately. Fingers crossed for some good ones on the “official” site

Mr Plow – I didn’t realise it was you I was talking to with Mr E. I met you at round one as we compared disasters 🙂

Better weekend all round this time then 🙂

Mr E – it must be you that knows my other half Nicky too. You still got a pretty good stage 5 time all things considered :).

Nice to meet you yesterday. I’ll be in touch re Eastridge.

Yep – another top weekend’s racing. Good range of stages but Stage 4 (and the original stage 1) seemed to be everyone’s favourites. I like the little twists of Natural stuff thrown in too. And even the weather was playing ball yesterday 🙂 .

Great race format. Really looking forward to Inners now

Depends on what you want to do with it too. A mate’s got a 16″ and he’s about 5’10. But then with some fox 36s and a CCDB, he’s mainly interested in the downs!

Some lovely places in Montgomery….but I guess that doesn’t really help 😳

Not sure about Shrewsbury I’m afraid.

As above. Try gently drying it out but, if any doubts, speak to Garmin – they’re pretty good re warranties and the like and will replace it if there’s any problems (IME anyway!).

I’m surprised though as an early review tried submerging the whole unit in water for a good while with the rubber flap open and nothing bad happened. Must’ve seeped through over time I guess?

Yup – another recommendation here. He tends to do the pit work for the Pearce DH series so you can speak to him direct there. Done plenty of work for our team for very reasonable rates and never been disappointed.

Friendly guy who knows his stuff. Plus he’s local to me so it means I can save P&P 🙂

Have to agree – my other half has taken her phone to Apple twice and had it replaced and repaired respectively, without charge. Almost makes me want to replace my HTC…. 😉

aracer – top bit if cynicism there, every silver lining really does have a cloud doesn’t it!

I keep trying to go back to shimano, but I just can’t get on with the mushy vagueness of the shifters.

Nope, but they can recognise them from the microchip number they have to have implanted when the passport’s completed 🙂

I’m pretty certain the 6 month period is non negotiable.

If you try to bring a dog back into the country less than 6 months after the blood sample date you risk it going into quarantine (at your expense) for 6 months. Sorry.

richiethesilverfish – thanks for the info. I may see you at Rutland but you’re right – Cardiff would be closer…is that one really on June 16th? On a Thursday???

Chakaping – nope, there was an Enduro feature in last months mag and the bright green Foxy was reviewed in it 🙂

That’s great – thanks for the advice. I’m hoping to get to the Rutland Cycles demo day so hopefully they’ll have a medium there.

    Cheers

Good comparison, and certainly gives me something to think about. I’m 6ft and normally ride a medium frame (med Zesty felt spot on).

Bespoke spares doesn’t sound much fun, although I guess that’s the same with most modern frames (unless you go for a Five or something)

Chakaping – about 90kg and Mid-Welsh borders. Quite a way from you unfortunately.

What bike have you moved to this from and how does it compare? I’m coming from a Whyte E-120 and am looking for something a bit more DH oriented, that still climbs well (and won’t snap on me!)

Rich – you’re right, maybe the Zesty is the one to go for 😉

Hmmm, looks nice. I’ve been looking at these as an alternative to my current 1st choice (Zesty – let’s not start that again please!). The 2011 model just got a pretty good review in Dirt.

My main problem at the moment is finding somewhere to demo one (the fact not that many are about is appealing though 🙂 )

As with others, I bid for just over a grands worth and ended up with 2 rowing tickets (my “at least I’ll get these if nothing else” option). Oh well 🙄

I recently bought a laptop for my other half. I only paid £400 for it and it works considerably better than the very expensive bells and whistle PC I paid a fortune for 10 years ago. Have I been fooling myself?

Can’t say that I have tbh. Compared to my Xen, it’s a little cooler but still has the sweat band that retains sweat round your forehead – as you say, you notice this when you stop & squeeze it out!!

Much comfier and the new RocLoc system grips my odd shaped bonce better than anything else I’ve tried.

Your right, that Specialised does look nice on paper. I’ve never really been taken by Specialized generally though. I always remember their bikes going through bushes/bearing like nothing else and I dont really like their “global domination” type business model.

So many decisions. Thanks for all the views on here guys.

    Mondraker Foxy

Hmmm – hadn’t really considered them, although they look quite DH orientated for a 140mm bike.

    Blimey – didn’t mean to start a fight…although I guess that’s enevitable here these days 😉

Thanks for all the comments (good and bad). I am a little concerned re cracks as that’s the reason I’m moving away from Whyte (snapped several) – I really fancied the 146 but feel I can’t really trust them any more. Having said that, ATB-Sales have been truly awesome when it came to replacements! I do get the feeling anything will crack given enough abuse so the quality of warranty is important.

As for only being suitable for light XC use, I do doubt that! As mentioned above, they have been used for the Mega in the past and at Elite level for Gravity Enduros here.

Ho hum. lots to think about.

Edit: Flow – out of interest, if you were put off Lapierres because of cracks, what did you go for?

Thanks Rob. That seems to just give info on stockist who have demo bikes available. At anywhere from £25-50 per demo bike, that could get expensive.
