dogs arent wildlife. I’ve yet to come across a deer\ squirrel\ hedgehog that has tried to bite my pedals

Nope, but I’vee nearly run a sheep over, I’ve nearly been taken out by a deer running across a trail and I’m pretty certain I’ve ridden through fox shit on rides before now, all at trail centres
    .
Just the usual crap (see what I did there) spouted on here..

but then I’m at work on a Saturday and grouchy so I’ll leave you to it!

I just pray to god the fences keeping any other wildlife away from your spotless trails stays intact…

Done the other 4 but can’t make this one unfortunately 🙁
Some of the new tracks they’ve put in/uncovered look like fun. Gutted I can’t make it.

I never used to bother, until I started riding DH more. As I got quicker I started to realise just how much of a difference different tread patterns/rubber compounds made. I now tend to have an prefered tyre depending on how muddy, gravity dependant or pedally a ride is. Whether I get round to changing tyres before the ride or not is a different matter though…unless it’s a race 🙂

For an awful lot of riding it probably doesn’t make that much difference.

    Yes.

But not as bad as lusting after a tractor

But there’s some very nice trac……

anyway, that truck – I hope it shows up at some enduros next year 🙂

Might stop you having burping/sidewall issues mid race run now then eh? 😉

There’s another good vid Here Which looks genuinely scary – no mean feat for helmet cam footage!!

Can’t remember the last time so many people were in the running for this. On a great track too.

I’m just not sure about paying for freecaster after the hit n miss service in the past….

    I’m not sure either. 😳

Oh well, thanks for highlighting it here 🙂

I’ve done this a few times. Not easy and you do have to get everything spotless, lightly greased and exactly lined up.

I’ve also had the same problem with the ratchety thing rounding off at one corner on an X0 shifter. I sent it back to SRAM (via my LBS) and they replaced the whole shifter under warranty – can’t argue with that 🙂

Personally I’d go for strength over light weight. The timed sections are predominantly DH so you wont really notice the weight and my flows have taken a bit of a beating over the series.

Personally I resent you low life pond feeders who take advantage if those of us who stump up for top end kit. While we have the decency to pay proper money for leading edge new technology, it makes me mad to think tthat, in just a few years time, that technology will have filtered down to the “plebs” groupsets just so the masses can get their dirty little hands on stuff that works almost as well… AND I bet you wont even keep it spotless will you!!!?

Thanks for the info – I await the results of the first ride 🙂

And I’ve got the same problem with matching colours – it would take a lot to get me off my Elixirs but I am tempted!!

Continuity – I’d be interested to hear how you find these compared to your Elixirs?

Agree with all the above. The lines Hart took were just bonkers! I too was hoping something unfortunate would happen to Gwin!

He does look like he’s on the edge – not necessarily a bad thing and great to watch though 🙂 . Gwin made it looked surprisingly easy in comparison.

Cool – that’s better. That’s pretty much what we’re planning tomorrow – looking forward to it now. Thanks for your help.

Marko – just having a look on the map… are those OS grid references you’re using? They don’t seem to make any sense.

Not to worry – I’ll try and map from Stoners images. Thanks for the help guys.

Blimey! Here’s hoping we have a less “exciting” decent tomorrow 🙂

Stoner – thanks very much for the info. We’ll probably head straight to Llanbedr then and go from there. I’ll scan your maps in detail when I get home tonight.

You’ll be after the ‘best single track in the world’ then?

Blimey – nothing like a bit of expectation to spice up a ride 🙂

Diawl – I’ve never really ridden much up there. Is it likely to be boggy as in unrideable a lot?

Hi Stoner – I saw your recent posts on another thread with those maps – Would you recommend any particular route (you’ve been particularly busy marking routes and there’s quite a few on there 🙂 )

nickhead – good bit of filming, thanks for posting that up :).

Great to see the course again and re-run all my mistakes 😉

I’ve got one, don’t wear pads (unless the trails warrant it), don’t work in IT, don’t ride a Marin/Specialized…..and I’ve only had to top the oil up once in 36,000miles

    ….oh go, I feel so alone 🙁

SPy vs Spy & Bitmap Bros games – wow, I’ve gone all nostalgic at the thought of them 🙂

This thread is amazing – even by STW standards. So many polarised views made interesting because I’ve ridden 2 of the bikes being discussed. Some of the comments made I agree with, some I totally disagree – just shows you how subjective riding a bike is.

FWIW, I’ve got a Zesty and bought it after riding several mates Fives and demoing a Zesty (and a Spicy which felt great on the DHs but heavy on the ups). The Five is an amazing bike and a great all-rounder for such a simple design. The Zesty is just that little bit more “fun”. It feels lighter & more chuckable on the DHs and the climbs just feel like you’re cheating – I’ve got it up things I’d struggle to ride on my HT. It also soaks up small high frequency stuff better…….all IMHO obviously!

I guess the key fact is you can’t beat a test ride, especially when laying out that much cash.

Sorry you’ve called it off Rich but probably the right decision. I’d almost be tempted if I wasn’t working next week!

    Blimey!

I want a whole bike built out of “Extra Super Duralium” please 🙂

    Does seem a bit over-engineered for a problem I didn’t realise existed.

We’ve had some absolute bargains from them this year. We went camping for the first time in years this summer and I just spent a month or so before hand choosing when to buy stuff, based in their weekly offers – most stuff ended up half price!

I did the price match for the first time last month too – Found some Merrel approach shoes I wanted in the shop. Quick check online for the cheapest price then they beat it by 10%. I ended up getting them for around 40% off 🙂

I do like these “take the latest and biggest things you can to the alps or you’ll die, or maybe just not enjoy yourself” threads.

I’m going to sound old here but, the first time I went to Morzine I was on a 140mm travel Patriot with Tioga DH 2.1 tyres and rims brakes. I think the bars may even have been less than a metre wide.

No matter what you take it’ll be a blast and, unless you’re travelling with very fast, very impatient DH’ers, subtleties of equipment really won’t make that much difference.

And FWIW, 2.35 swamp things are great tyres and, whilst you won’t win any uphill races, you’ll be fine on them everywhere else. Given the unpredictable weather and range of terrain there, I can think of a lot less suitable choices.

Yup, endomondo here too. Make sure you switch everything off you’re not using (wifi, 3G, bluetooth) to max the battery life

    Paul@RTW – 0:03:07 + 0:02:05 + 0:01:55 + 0:07:47 + 0:03:01 = 17:55.

You can get 3 seconds via rounding errors

A few of our guys on that vid too (including the chap running over the double – 2 punctures on 2 stages and 1 face plant = not a happy man!)

Yeah, the timing was actually recorded down to 1/100s – rounded down for the stage times but obviously counted towards the total.

100mphplus – yeah, another conspicuous Singletrack abscence. I guess they were busy at SITS! Not very good for the “official media sponsors” – really disappointing IMHO.

You’re right about the garmin too – quite depressing to be that knackered after such a short distance 🙂

I’ll be there with the RaveRacing guys. On my slightly wounded zesty, hoping for a bit more luck than the first three rounds…

Mafiafish – if Parr stays true to form, the link stages will be pretty relaxed.

Oh, and it really would be rude not to drink beer wouldn’t it?
