Why would you need a new chainset? A new BB at most shirley?

    I was thinking the same

Agree with most of the comments above really. Unbeatable atmosphere both the night before by the firepit, and during the race. Marshalls did a top job and I loved the halloween randoms 🙂 .

I was almost cursing the course given the amount of road/fireroad (especially the wasted descending) but the gems of singletrack that were uncovered made up for it. The steep drop down to the waterfall then singletrack to the off camber descent were some of the best stuff I’ve ridden in the UK. Does anyone know the legality of riding that outside the event?

Looking at you original list, if you’re considering a Lapierre, I’d go with a Zesty rather than a Spicy. 140mm is plenty unless you’re looking at Alpine or full on DH riding and the extra weight is a just a hassle. I’ve got a 714 and absolutely love it – some good deals on 2011 models too if you’re looking to buy now.
Of the others, the Five and the Yeti are both nice bikes but I’d agree with the sentiments re demoing first.

To be fair, Wiggins has been quoted recently as saying something along the lines of, he’s not sure where Sky’s focus will be next year – they may just concentrate on Cav getting the green jersey. Give away or double bluffing 🙂

I think World Cup 4x lost its way a bit trying to be something it’s not. It ended up more as a giant BMX track rather than anything MTB orientated (and BMXs are better at that). Rider numbers and interest has dropped as a result.

It’s a real shame that course designers seemed to be getting it right again this year, especially at the Worlds, with line choices, technical sections etc. The fact the some rode the qualifiers at the worlds on FS bikes said an awful lot.

As others have said, 4X is a great spectator sport if done properly.

Opportunists taking advantage of an honest mistake, advertising said mistake on here then getting abusive when people report the cock up to the company involved. Quickly followed by post opportunist guilt….this place rocks 🙂 .

For the record, I was tempted to take advantage but decided it was the wrong thing to do. Fair play to OW for owning up to informing them but do people really think he was the only one….or that RoseBikes wouldn’t have realised after the last 24hrs of orders anyway? 🙄

Entered this for the first time – I’m actually quite looking forward to it.

    I will be on a road bike though…maybe I need a rethink?

Bargain pricing and the Recon is a decent helmet. It’s not quite as comfy as the Giro helmets though (IMHO – I couldn’t get one to fit. I have got an odd shaped head though 😳 )

Now look what you’ve made me do! Thanks for the heads up on the Wiggle price – one on it’s way now 🙂
    .
There is a newer model Rich – the v17 is the one to have now as it comes with a seperate battery pack 🙂

Horses for course I suppose. The Flux looks fine and is good value but doesn’t fit me at all. Giro helmets fit like a glove. I guess I’ve just got a posh head 🙂

I was really impressed with mine till it fell apart. As others have found, the foot lever snaps very easily and the head fell off the end of the hose too – maybe I just got a Friday afternoon pump!!

Annoyingly I’m working just down the road from it on saturday then its the coed y brenin enduro Sunday.

Riding my bike rather than drooling over shiny new stuff – I clearly need to sort my priorities!!

XC course looks like a laugh

It did look good – a course that actually rewarded bike handling skills, not just fitness. And you’re right about those drops!!

swavis – a few riders did qualifying on their DH bikes as it was quite a rough “natural” course and the faster lines were easier to hit on a full sus. Not many raced on one though as they’re still slow to accelerate!

I’ve got one – its definitely more yellowy and looks a lot better in the flesh…. Honest 🙂

My god, is this still going on (of course it is, this is STW!)

It’s starting to take a similar line to the riding on footpaths argument now – ie:

    – you shouldn’t go there coz you’re not supposed to and it will ruin other peoples enjoyment
    – And signs say you can’t
    – but I’m a great rider and won’t harm anyone/my dog is well trained and won’t harm anyone.
FWIW, I don’t recal any signs saying no dogs at any of the trail centres 😈

I have to say that I’m somewhat surprised that you consider the potentional of Toxicariasis as not being a problem though.

Thank god, someone’s thinking of the children 🙄

Some strong teams this year. Should make for an interesting race.

My folks have got one and love it. It is impressively quiet and seems reliable. I’m happy with our bosch though and don’t think I’d pay the extra.

Pook – that’s a very good point. I passed a turd on the edge of the track with a rolled up piece of toilet roll next to it once. Either there are some very posh dogs in Glentress or that wasn’t no dog pooh 😯

DS – ok, so your rant is against peaople in general. Unfortunately, in placing it on a MTB forum, in the “bike” section, it is directed at MTBers, not the general public.
And my last statement was simply an example of how out of context your statement re taking a dog to a public swimming pool was.

Oh god I must be bored….

me and a friend ran straight into a dude and his dog chilling in the middle of one of the big berms

I what way did the presence of the dog affect the outcome. Surely the guy in the middle of the berm was the problem?

If you would care to remove your head from your a**

You’ve always had such a way with words in your arguements haven’t you? I may just be playing devils advocate as yes, I’m sure it’s frustrating to have to avoid one extra piece of crap on the trails but I would say that cyclists with dogs are the least likely to let them shit on the track – an awful lot of walkers end up on MTB trails.

Taking a similar line to your swimming pool arguement, I find slow people on trails quite annoying. I think we should ban them…

At the end of the day a significant number of people on here need to calm down and practice their last minute-hazard avoiding bunny-hops

AND adopt a little more acceptance/tolerance too 🙂

Agreed you get what you pay for. And also re the “lifelong/lifetime” cover – frequently the most expensive claims are for long term medication and many cheap policies will stop paying after 12 months.

Check the small print and discuss it with your vet – they’re not really allowed to recommend particular companies but they can give you some guidance and tell you which companies thay are happy to deal with direct.

Yes, these companies are working the odds and there’s every chance you won’t need to use the cover. If you have the will power to put money to one side then fine. It’s always gutting to make a decision re the treatment of a pet based on what can be afforded rather than what’s best for the animal though.

    Oh, and don’t touch E&L!
