Agree with Pieface. I like Howies clobber, and use their merino tops a lot, but prices are getting out of control unfortunately. 20% off makes them more sensible, but I certainly don’t get as much as I used to…

Me and wor lass went travelling for a year back in 99/00.
Met Ewan MacGregor at Sydney Zoo, Coolio, and wor lass stopped ex-president Jimmy Carter from pushing into a ski-lift queue while working in Colorado…until his bodyguards stepped in and said that the Pres had right of way and didn't have to queue…

love his FSR…it would be a short travel xc bike now, and the length of the stem would get him slaughtered on STW?!

Does make laugh at all the 'what tyre' threads on here now…he was riding a hardtail in DH events, and doing the Kamikaze without body armour. Now that's the true spirit of mountain biking!
Q – why aren't you wearing body armour
JMC – well i don't intend to crash!

I got into mountain biking as an impressionable teenager in the late 80's – biking round Hamsterley, Kielder, Chopwell Woods etc in the north-east, and to me JMC was a God. Brilliant cyclist (BMX, mountain biking, track – everything!) and just one of those people that seems to have been universally loved, admired and respected. Not many people can say that. I'm the same as SpeedyG in that I was at races with him but never approached for an autograph or a chat – hey ho, I regret that too.
RIP, a hero and a legend for me, and I'm sure others.

Oggles – I've used X-socks and like them a lot as they've been comfy and lasted ages, but remembered that people were raving about Woolie Boolie's etc.

I've just done this for all my waterproofs. took ages as only meant to be two bits of kits per wash. used nik-wax cleaner and re-proofer, and having been out in the past week every thing is 'better' than before but i wouldn't say as good as new.

Are there any left in the 2010 model? I'm 6'5" so would need the biggest frame I guess. Can pop in for a chat if you do, as Edinburgh based. If not, any date known for 2011 model?

'Aye, it were right tough but i put hammer down…'
    Magic.
He had some sort of mental problems at one stage, and i think he married a Canadian mtb chick if my memory is right, but no idea after he gave up pro racing.

i'm pretty convinced that i'm after a hardtail but its extra cash over and above the X2.
there was a positive review on bikeradar for the super-expensive one, but its always good to hear from other folk…

    Bump.
Check it out folks – for a group of lads who cobbled this together in the pub its a pretty slick and professional effort, and its pretty catchy.
Uncle Zaskar – Paul Chater (with the feather duster) is my brother-in-law. I'll make sure I tell him that I saw this posted on STW. Fingers crossed for a chart placing!

I've just donated. I live in Edinburgh and if you are passing through then happy to help in any way that I can, and would love to ride for a day with you.
Absolutely in awe of you and Meg. Have been following this since Day 1.
Good luck with the treatment and LEJOG.

SFB can be mildly entertaining as well as being extremely irritating, but to try and wind people up on this post, well that makes him a prime c*ck. What a bell end.

Lots of locals are getting the benefit of wind farm developments, its common for local communities to get the benefit of a turbine or two from the developer e.g. community funds set up from the cash gained, or I'm working on a scheme where the developer is looking to improve local roads and access for residents, to cut journey times to the nearest town.
Most industry is in Central Belt Scotland, most of the wind is not unfortunately. There are still huge wind farms in the Central Belt though – the one near Shotts and Whitelee near East Kilbride.

Depending on who you listen to it's 4-8 time as expensive to stick them underground. I'm not sure to what extent the public enquiry has conditioned that they are underground in paticularly sensitive (landscape) areas?
As Druidh says, its the A9 corridor so its not an unsploilt wilderness.
If we are going to have on and offshore (turbines, wave and tidal) renewable energy, this was pretty much required to open up Scotland to the capacity for this. A necessary evil if not the most aesthetic bit of infrastructure.

I had my stag there in 2004 and it was a cracking weekend.
20 of us descended into Kendal on the Friday night, basing ourselves in the White Heart (?). Few rough local types about but nothing too bad. A fair few decent pubs in town, and I remember having a decent pizza somewhere, can't remember where though.
Both nights we ended up in 'Passions' night club. Really busy, lively, plenty of nice looking girls, no real bother with other lads, and really friendly and understanding doormen who were happy with a stag-do as long as we 'behaved'.
Did outdoor activities at Rookin Farm near Keswick / Penrith.
Understandibly, one of my fave weekends of all time.
It was during a cracking weekend of weather in the middle of summer, not sure how busy and lively it would be in Feb!?

for years i have lived in Edinburgh and used Alpinebikes the Bike Coop. Alpinebikes – most apathetic staff ever. Coop – arrogant manager and the worst mail order ever, but staff seem good and huge product range.
Having now discovered and used TBC i won't ever go anywhere else. Friendly, interesting and efficient staff every time + great service. got two bikes serviced last summer – two free multi-tools. went in to get some energy products before the Helvellyn Tri in September – a handful of free stuff to try. First class.

I'm doing Edinburgh and got my 16-week training email last night. I commute out to South Queensferry by bike most days, but will drop one of those each week and run both ways instead (5-6 miles each way), and then a long run on the weekend. Hope that'lll be enough.

    Seriously MTFU.
Have a word with the Uni, and let them know what's happened. But I'd be embarrassed to come on here and start talking about claims after tripping over. Get a grip mate.
And you need to do something if you are told at the NHS to cut corners, thats a far bigger issue.
However, do hope your knee is soon fixed, though you must have used the best A&E Dept in the country to get such an accurate diagnosis…
