    Hi
I have just got a 506 and its fantastic. I have ridden Deejays 405 a couple of time and thought the same of that-in fact it was after riding his bike that I decided to get the 506. I was severely tempted by a new 5 Spot after having a demo but the Pace was half the price. I paid £995 including the DT shock.
My 506 is built up fairly heavy at 33lb but that is with a coil Pike and hefty wheelset. Having said that it "rides" alot lighter and I have comfortably done 35 miles on it and feel that I could do more.
I have it set up very plush and it just soaks everything up.
It rides like a 405 but "bigger" if that makes sense.
I am just over 6 foot and riding a large with a 90mm stem and a Maverick Seatpost and it fits me perfectly.
If you have any specific questions I will try to answer them.
    Cheers

    Hi
Yep Andy you are correct, if you do the whole lot as I described it is longer-I would say add about another 1.5 hours. Just a guess though!

    Hi
I would say give it a go they aren't that bad.
The stuff is mainly the old red route IIRC and is more "natural" than the current man made red route. If can get a bit gloopy if it has been wet though.
If you follow the current red route until after Dixons Hollow then do the short couple of black bits (some of which are very new) you will link back to the red route.
Keep following this until you are at the far side of the forest after the big switch back climb (sorry dont know the name but there is a scenic viewpoint on the left near it)and you will see a black section signed down a piece of boardwalk on the right-follow this and then keep following black and you will eventually come back to Dixons Hollow.
Then you can just complete the red as normal or cut back to the visitors centre as you see fit.
    Hope that makes sense.
    Cheers

    Hi
I cant give too much info at the minute but I have just got one of these through C2W too-except its a large.
Only done a couple of short spins so far to get the set up right but first impressions are excellent.
Its my first road bike so still getting used to the "stretch" to the bars compared to an mtb.
Its very light approx 17lbs and flys along when you press on the pedals.
Also well impressed with the SRAM Rival shifters which you push the same way to change up or down the block-short tap to go down the block, longer push to change up the block. Sounds weird but you get used to it very quickly.
The reason I bought it (apart from the cost) was that one of my mates who has raced on road and track recommended it-apparently it is rated in the roadie mags as being as good as other bikes much more expensive.

A slight word of warning though-I had read some stories that said spokes could come loose on the rear wheel especially so took mine straight to a mate who fixes my bikes. He said that drive side spokes on the rear were not tight enough so he sorted this out and trued the wheel slightly. Also the brakes were not adjusted properly as the "cam" thingy on the the calipers were in the wrong position when the cables were adjusted

    Hope this helps a bit

    Hi
Not sure if they are coil forks but a mate has just had my coil Pikes apart and he said that the spring has a plastic sleeve on it which works its way down. Then when the fork compresses the spring bends slightly and makes contact with the fork inner.
Putting the sleeve back to the original place solves the problem but needs periodic inspection.
Had a similar problem with some Fox Vanillas a few years ago.
    Hope that makes sense

    Hi
We were up there on Saturday. I had a go on a Turner 5 Spot. Absolutely loved it. May need to buy one :-)
We also had a Zesty 314 on demo from Purple Mountain Bikes. That was excellent too-it just seemed to go fast everywhere.

    Hi
I have used a USE Alien and now have a Moots Layback (like in the picture :D)
Both are good but I think the Moots is noticably more “compliant” as well as being tarty!!
I picked my Moots up off here for 80 odd quid and am very happy with it but I would say the USE was OK too for half the price.
Its been a while since I used a carbon one so wouldn’t like to make a comparison.

Ishouldbeworking-no offence taken. It is white but doesnt have discs.
Can I ask how tall you are and what size you have. They only seem to do a 54cm and 58cm-I would normally buy a 56 in a road bike!!!

    Hi
There is a Voodoo cx bike in my local Halfords with 200 quid off (retailing now at £699) thought it might be a decent buy on cycle to work scheme for general commuting/training duties.
Its a scandium frame and 105/sora groupset if i remember correctly.
    Any thoughts?

hi i can change my plans to ride thursday. I put a thread on here last week asking about the relative merits of both venues. The consensus was go to afan for the day. Have a search on my user name for more details. I would be looking to be at afan for 10-10.30. I am doing this on my phone as parents dont have a pc. You can ring or text me on 07773351832 if you want. Cheers steve

    Ok
Just been on the website and there is more there than I thought.
What are my best options in terms of a good day bearing in mind this is my first visit?
On the face of it it would seem that Skyline trail first and then if I have time/energy Whites Level-this is based mainly on the fact tha I have heard of them!!!!.

I can do others if I go again.
Is this a good plan or is one of the others better as starting ride?
The grading doesnt bother me as have ridden lots of Black stuff elsewhere.

    Hi
I have an 06 Trance that I have “beefed” up with heavier wheels and Pikes etc.
Was running in 185 and 165 non mono M4’s and just put a 205 on the front with a +20 adaptor.

    Hi
I bought a pair of 2.4s to go on my Trance when I was “beefing” it up so to speak. I couldn’t get the rear one in the frame when it was blown up. Putting it in flat then blowing it up leaves eff all clearance.
I am running a 2.4 front and 2.25 rear but even then the front one will “buzz” the neoprene fork guard thingy from time to time (on a set of Pikes) Not only is it a wide tyre it is very tall-much more so than the 2.25.
I wouldn’t buy them again for that reason only.

    Hi
There are a few of us on here who live in Darlington but I am not aware of much at Ingleton.
There is some stuff around the Barnard Castle/Bowes area if you can travel a bit or alternatively with a short hop you can get onto the moors around Barningham.
I am not too good with linky stuff I am afraid so email me on stevetodd1963@hotmail.com and I will try to provide you with more details.
Deejay who posts on here is better with routes and links and he has days off in the week sometimes so may be able to sort something out
Alternatively we ride as a group on a Wednesday night for a couple of hours and a Sunday (all day) and you are welcome to tag along.

    Hi
I have a similar problem with the Bose ones except I cant get them to stay in because my external ear (pinna) is too small. Fortunately ear buds work for me.
You could try http://www.noisebreaker.co.uk they do some custom moulded ear plugs that you can get speakers built into-not cheap though about £150.

    Hi
I was with Deejay last week in the Peaks when he demoed the one from 18bikes-the chainstays snapped :x.
He may be along shortly with some piccies.
I had a go on it before it broke-I was really surprised how light it was and how well it rode even though it was a bit small for me.
Pity cos I think both me and Deejay would have been in the market for one!

    Donk
I would put the riding somewhere between the Lakes and Rivi.
Mainly fast and swoopy but with rocks thrown in in parts.
The ups are bigger than Rivi but not as big as the Lakes-generally speaking
Me and Deejay will be on FS bikes but a hardtail would also work well if you fancied it.

    Hi
What Mountain Bike were running a Trance frame with Pikes on it and raved about it-it was some time ago now though.
I have run mine with 130 revs which were really nice but I needed to put them on something else so put a set of old 125mm TALAS on. I dont think it rides as well but cant really put my finger on it so I have just picked up a bargain set of brand new 07 Pikes which will be going on in the next week or so. They are the U turn ones so I can adjust them if necessary.

Not really given it much thought until your thread made me think about a new bike
I have been really happy with it and love the way it rides, I can understand why you want one.
Although it is an 06 I actually bought it as a brand new whole bike in JUly 07 and then transferred parts over.
The shock hasn’t been serviced but it has had bearings replaced and new shock bushings.
Top of my head figure is about £300 plus postage at cost.

I already have another 2 “steeds”!
    A Hummer and a Whyte E5.
I have the Whyte built up fairly light and the Trance a bit burlier (130mm forks, 2.4 Advantage etc)and was thinking of putting some Pikes on it too!
I am seriously considering a Hemlock (me and Deejay off here are hoping to demo one in the Peaks in April) and I also like the look of the Lapierre’s but funds dont currently allow.
I take it you are after a frame only?
If I do take the plunge I would probably be selling frame only but dont have a real timescale in mind yet.
You could try and persuade me
