Could you not just put another hole in your crud catcher?

OK, the weather detracted from the fun of the day but it was a nice ride out in the hills. I did both loops, some of the second loop several times thanks to the poor course marking (the wind may have accounted for some missing markers) and had a bit of a chat with a few other riders on the way round. Do the people saying they had to pull out half way round due to being so wet and cold think they were perhaps under prepared for a ride out in some fairly testing terrain on a day with a weather forecest saying strong winds, low temperatures and showers/rain?

I heard some very strongly worded comments (one full-on tirade of four letter foulness too) in the car park at the end and overheard one of the 2 girls collecting the number boards from riders saying to the other “just cut the number off and let them shout at you for a few minutes”. As (I think) it was their first try at putting on such an event, was only £7 to enter and they’ve asked for feedback via email in the pre event blurb, why not pass on some constructive comments and maybe any subsequent running of the event will go more smoothly?

No brakes and no obvious means of fitting any either. Looks like a winner.

She sent me off to sixth form with difficulty riding my bike in jeans most mornings.

Google doesn’t seem to know owt about a game called wibbly wobbly. Any other guesses? I’d love to find a clip of the Tony Blackburn edition, I seem to remember laughing most of the day.

That’s one of the issues with disability sports. Where does managing a condition end and doping begin?

Thats what I was getting at. Being lucky enough to still have 2 legs, I don’t know if he would need to be injecting testosterone for any reason linked with the loss of his limbs. Might there be justification or is he likely to be cheating at sport?

Managed my longest offroad ride of the year so far at 47 miles under fantastic blue skies with plenty of sunshine. Then spent all afternoon being unclefatboythehumanclimbingframe at a 3 year old’s birthday party and came home for a few beers. Top day all round.

S’all just pedalling bikes really so s’all good. Your position tends to be more static on a road bike so you do need to wrap up a little more, overshoes are good and full length guards with mudflaps are a god send for winter miles, especially commuting. My winter road bike sees more miles than my nice one and it’s just brilliant, dead comfy for hours on end.

    Enjoy.

A 1987 Townsend hi-tensile steel pile of junk. I absolutely loved it, first ride still sticks in my head and whenever I ride the same trail I think about it. I rode it into the ground and destroyed almost everything, the brakes were less effective than trying to grab handfuls of air, the wheels buckled on nearly every ride, I smashed both pedals mis-judging a gap between 2 boulders, split the front hub shell, wore the drivetrain to a toothless mess and never so much as scored the surface of the rock hard brake pads which I never bothered to upgrade. Flourescent pink top tube pad, flourescent green shoulder pad frame bag and for maximum style points, a flourescent yellow plastic rear wheel disc.

It finally died when the fork snapped and I bored the head tube into the centre of the earth, bending the downtube.

My first proper MTB was a Shogun Prarie Breaker Team Issue, Tange Prestige tubing and XT kit. This was the greatest thing I had ever owned and completed my transition from geeky kid into full on bike geek.

I’m about an hour from leaving work and heading home for tonight’s riveting installment of what Doris said to make Betty so upset and how difficult it is to get all the members of the caravan club to line their vans up properly to keep the site looking neat.

Any fun drinking games I can play in my own head to while away the evening?

All back to normal service tomorrow thankfully.

So long as the plan is for it to be retro-fittable to Pro2 hubs, they’ll shift a fair few. The 10-37 sounds interesting so long a it will work with existing rear mechs unlike the 11-38 from KCNC(?) which requires the extension for an XTR mech. Should make 1×10 a little more useable to more people.

Hope guesstimate of September could mean anything though.

The way Obree speaks so openly and candidly about everything in his book, I think he’s probably spot on with everything there too.

Hmm, I like the idea but have a few questions for the author before I go sharpen the hacksaw.

    1) Isn’t it just bobbins?
    2) It is just bobbins isn’t it?
    3) Is there any difference between this and something completely bobbins?

I run a Reba and a rigid fork on my Karate Monkey and have a crown race on each steerer. Do that and it’s a nice quick job with allen keys only.

Fantastic saddles, they thank you for a bit of looking after too by lasting many times longer than owt else. My B17 has done more miles than I could ever remember and it’s still superb.

Not worth it at all in my opinion. Mine had more problems than any other hub (or even any other part) I’ve ever had. Snapped the end of the splines off the freehub body, not warrantied, bearings always coming loose, not warrantied, axle split lengthways and guess what, not warrantied. Strangely there was always an upgrade part available which would solve the issue at my expense. Ended up with a steel freehub body and an oversized axle kit and a hub that had in total cost about 4 times the cost of a Pro2. I’d only buy Hope now, they just work and parts are easily and readily available from any bike shop.

Watching cross is more interesting than watching cross country MTB racing, fast and usually more falls for crowd pleasing. The weather forecast suggests it’s likely to be pretty frosty.

No idea if there’ll be any trade stands as I’ve not been to the nationals in years.

Worth a drive if you’re close-ish and if it’s on your doorstep, get down there, the boy will love watching people fall off so head for somewhere muddy/steep.

After missing last years through being well bored of the Eastnor courses, I’m well keen to give it another go somewhere new. First time I’ve been vaguely excited about Mayhem in a good few years.

Let’s hope the course is fun, the weather is kind (ie not just cr4p) and it all goes off without incident.

It starts off tough and gets harder as you go on, the road surfaces tend to be worse towards the end too. If you get the right day it’s a beautiful challenging day out riding in the Lakes. If it’s pi55ing down and windy it moves more towards a miserable sufferfest. It gets you onto some minor roads you might not bother with otherwise as well which makes it all the better.

I’d probably go for rocky trails like Pin Dale, Oxlow Rake, Shatton Moor (mast side), Mam Tor broken road, Roych Clough, Edale Cross or some of the Ladybower ones though all the flatter top bits will be muddy. Or maybe head south Peak and do some of the trail around Bakewell, over towards Rowsley, plenty of gravel track stuff over thaqt way if you can enjoy the ride without too much techy stuff. Make ot a day to discover a new cafe and drink plenty o’ tea.
