Typical, we have a family wedding on the Wednesday of that week (who gets wed mid week?!).

You need a big fat wind break? I could possibly fill those shoes. All road sounds a bit tedious but it gets the miles ticked off more easily i guess. I know the plan is little more than an idea but if you want to chat about it, you know where I am. I could have 2 or 3 other pedal turners too.

There are now tubeless Performance Schwalbe tyres. As has been said already though, the rubber compound is not as grippy as the Evo tyres.

I’d work out how far away from home I could fly to, leaving a suitable balance to support the ride back. £400-500 gets you an interestingly long way away and £1500-£1600 funds plenty of nights under the stars.

I use both and decided on bivi and tarp for this weekends trip. Absolutely the right choice as it took me probably 15-20 minutes to find somewhere suitable to put it up before a decent nights sleep. A scout around in the light of the following morning didn’t reveal anywhere I could have put up a tent.

I’m in. Ideal preparation for me – out for a few beers while watching the footie in Manchester, evening train upto Penrith, pedal over to somewhere around Keswick and bivi in some woods. Should be reet. I’ll be the slightly sick looking fat bloke on the green 29er with rigid carbon forks, full guards and a pannier rack.

What would an HGV examiner have expected the driver to do in that situation?
He isn’t going to say crack on chap, they are in the wrong lane so don’t worry if ya kill one

But the examiner would be in the passenger seat, with a reduced blind spot and likely an extra mirror to further reduce it. Lessons to be learnt all round but the majority of cyclists in the clip seem to feel the rules for the road don’t apply to them and the driver has no right to obey those applying to him.

I spend almost none of my riding time on busy roads, but whenever I do, I’m gobsmacked by the level of stupidity of a massive proportion of cyclists and drivers.

Firstly, I haven’t read any of the replies so apologies if this has been said. (Not likely)

We bought a Burley 2 seater with the jogger bits when child number 1 as about 9 months old as we liked the fact we could sit her centrally in it with loads of room for toys, blankets and other gubbins, plus the boot would come in handy for longer adventures in the future.. It’s been possibly the best bike accessory we ever bought.

We’ve never had any issue with kids not being comfortable and always felt they were safe. The massive boot space is big enough for a nights camping stuff, it’s really stable and feels secure. We’ve taken various combinations of our friends kids out as well and without exception, they’ve all loved it. When child 2 came along, he was straight in there and loved it, plus he’s more of a thrill seeker than his big sis so I could take him out at 2 or 3 on is own to bounce down some lumpy trails while he laughed his head off. With the wheels, towing arm and jogger kit inside, it folds down flatter than any decent offroad double pram so we’ve taken it on every holiday and it still gets a cheer from the kids when they see it. The handle on the back is also a great place to strap a run bike so that jnr can toddle off round the park when you stop for ice creams and swings.

Even after nearly 7 years of use and having just come to the sad day when we realised it wasn’t going to be used again, my sister is looking forward to having it passed on for her 2. She’s seen how much our kids have loved it and wants hers to get the same. Not sure her non bikey other half is gong to put it through it’s paces in the same way we have though.

Nice bike. I had the same issues getting short cranks so I got a nice light set of solid (ie, not hollow arms) cranks, cut them down, then drilled and tapped them.

Yes Rallybiker, I reckon you can expect Snowdonia pretty much to your self this bank holiday weekend with a sunny and warm forecast. Enjoy the queues.

Yep, great fun event thanks folks. Feeling surprisingly OK today considering I haven’t ridden for over 3 hours in about 8 months and probably over 2 years since I last rode for 7. I’m not sure I should be quite as proud as I am that my 2 prizes at the presentation were for drinking lots of beer and not littering my cups on the floor but at least I left the podium free for skinny types.

My kids spent the whole day ringing cowbells, screaming, demanding wheelies and high fives, chanting random things (I say single, you say track. Inspried) and generally loving it all. Thanks to the crepe and ice cream vans for maintaining their energy levels. They were both pretty exhausted last night and I’m glad they’re at school and pre-school today so they’re teachers problems, not ours!

The course was great fun, plenty of twisty singletrack and no real sign the usual long dull stretches that seem to be added to so many courses on similar events just to put the lap distance up.

Agree that the foam caused some disc brake issues which was interesting as it was probably the first little quick part of bluebell woods before I had to use them and realised they didn’t work, all part of the fun though.

Big thanks to everyone who attended for making it all fun and huge thanks to everyone involved in making it happen for putting on a grand event.

I’m just on the lettuce eater side of 20 stone and have had plenty of bikes without issue. Currently favouring burlier, longer travel hardtails with wide rims and tyres. Sort him a bike and show him some fun stuff you think he can manage and more importantly, he can enjoy.

Aye, go with the right choice for the weather if you don’t want to get a tarp. Bivi in the right conditions is great, bivi in the pi55ing rain without a tarp isn’t very comfortable, bivi and tarp, pitched well in the pi55ing rain is fine or a tent just works all round with a weight penalty.

Re the interest in what brakes are in use, no one cares what football boots or studs are used in a game of football.

Someone should tell the boot makers that their sponsorship money paid to players to wear their boots is all going down the pan. It looks like you’ve been worrying about this thread for some hours now, why not go for a bicycle ride to clear your head?

UPDATE, SHOULD ANYONE REALLY BE BOTHERED.

It looks like the boy has actually picked up on the idea that the threat of losing his bike is just not worth being an 4rse for. Another week of daily pedaling while he’s been on half term and I’ve had him on the tag-a-long to see how he liked that. Result was; a loop round the cul-de-sac left such a huge grin that I couldn’t even consider taking him off it so we went out with big sis on her bike and a few friends and did 9 miles, including a few laps of a local pump(ish) track. when I stopped to give a mate my phone to take a few pics of his grin to send to my wife, he practically begged to go around again.

Thank God, thank crunchie, thank goodness or thank anybody else for bikes. He’s never been so happy or so happy to conform at the thought of not being able to ride. This is obviously why I discovered mountain bikes in the first place.

Formula or Formula? Stupid question or not, there are two different companies under the same name. The aftermarket brand are distributed by Silverfish and you may be able to get parts for an aftermarket hub from them. The formula branded OEM hubs seem to come from a far off planet in the galaxy of nospareparts. Best of luck.

Had a phone call from a friend once to say he had a parcel for me. Strange, no idea why you have it. The driver assumed that as we lived about half a mile from each other and the parcels were from the same place, they must have wrongly addressed one of them. Thankfully, delivery number one was my mate or I could have been £300 down. The useless eejit I tried to complain to couldn’t have cared any less. My herpes would be more likely to get repeat business than my Hermes.

Brake mount certainly looks cracked. If it’s not bust and it’s a keeper, give me a shout if you want a cheap set of rocker plates and spare used rear shock.

There is a specific tubeless tape for those rims so hopfully, it’ll be fitted already. If it is, stick some Mavic valves in, add some sealant and go.

7 year old daughter has strict rules for me – if she calls me Dad, I have to answer yes, If she calls me Daddy, I answer yessy and if she calls me Dadda, I answer Yessa.

3 year old son calls me DaddaDaddaDaddaDaddaDaddaDadda and hides very badly without stopping shouting and giggling.

    Fun times.

Well, surprise surprise, the buyer got back to me today saying he desperately wanted the item for Saturday, was that possible. I replied it was if he paid straight away as I could send it today. He’s since come back offering 10% less than the sale price. Sale now cancelled and eejit blocked.

I quite like a walk but does it really come anywhere close to a proper day out on the fells on a mountain bike?

If you’re unsure of the answer to this, may I refer you to the wisdom of Tomaso above.
