Cav is very good at what he does .If he really needed public speaking it would be in his training plan.
No worse than watching Beckham trying to string some words together for the world cup bid .Why are people surprised when sports people can’t do it all, they just happen to have a talent for (usually)one thing?

    I never expect much more.

Agree with the getting position sorted out(while working on the core strength)it has really helped me on big days.
As Rusty said,I also found the fore and aft adjustment could make a real difference with what seemed a tiny movement.
I did the TR in the summer on a hardtail (people said I would die ),so I went through a panic and bought a USE shokpost. It worked fine for me and mainley helped at the end of the day when it would keep away trailbuzz and the odd big hit when I was tired, but the main thing was that the fit felt perfect. I grabbed the sons full suss today to go on our club Xmas lunch run over the hills.Daft really as there was so much snow we were pushing for half of it,so I could have taken my SS.Because I did a quick setup this morning (I was late)
I can now feel it in my back a bit

There should be a wee bit float (side to side) in the tensioner wheel/sprocket ,no?
Or maybe you have the tension a bit too tight ?

I use one and it is almost silent.

I bought SLX and XT mechs that I used over the summer ,The SLX worked as good as XT, till the jockey wheels that are made of cheese failed.
I put on a set of XT sealed wheels and it’s been fine since.

A set of those Spinergys went on TheeBay a few weeks ago

I think they were hand built

Yup, you could just buy the set you want (maybe cheaper) then get a builder to tune/check them.
Me,I like to go for the whole shopping experience and (for me )the bigger satisfaction.

It’s all down to what you want in the end.

Build a bike from scratch or roll the same one out the door of an LBS (where they know what they are doing),you still end up with the bike you want, but I will always love my shed built projects more.

    Giant

Just picked up a new hand built set from big Al at Wheelcraft (legend).
I got a free cup of coffee, the offer of some cake and told to bring them back for a free tune up once I have bashed them round the trails.

There is little if nothing he doesn’t know about wheels and it was well worth the money on fuel to get there and back (twice).
Oh, and as I had sourced out the hubs and rims online they still came in cheaper than buying the same set ready built.

If the builder is good you won’t regret it

Sidlaws/Knapp loop from town (Dundee) via some of the woods on the way up.
All this cold will make a lot of the boggy bits easy for a change.

Went out on my first SS ride last night.
Gear ratio fail ( I only had a 42 chainring knocking about the shed).
I thought I could get away with it as the trail has no big climbs in it.

Still had a good laugh when I was able to keep the speed up (maybe I should take the brakes off) ,so I am going to try it at a cross race this weekend.

I use a Sumo USE shokpost on a Van Nic Tuareg and really like it.
Just enough to take the trail buzz out ,will take the edge of a big hit and does not bob.
It does however have a side to side movement that I can’t get rid of (I have tried new keys) but I am used to it now.

    Tricky

Does your carbon one have the side to side thing going on?

Just did the Transrockies this year , I now want to go back and do the BC bike race and Test of Metal.
I thought some of the views were absolutely stunning and a huge variation in terrain .Saw plenty of big cliffs (no dams)and high peaks.
I have only ever ridden in the Alps on a road bike so maybe I should give it a try then compare them.

I don’t train while ill (even if that means scrubbing an event),but as a few have said,it’s good to still get out and pootle (as long as you’re not at deaths door).

Anybody at Leeds in 92 when Roger Hammond won the junior worlds?.
That was a great crowd, everyone going nuts when they knew he was going to win.

I have only ever used my crossbikes as a winterbike or for touring.

It’s my mountain bike with skinny tyres again this year as drop bars off road just feel wrong (to me).

As said above, when you look at how much an XC race costs is it any wonder they attract the numbers .

I bought a DHB Wickham from Wiggle that was good in some of the monsoon stuff last week.
That was down to £83 when I got it,but I see they have put it back up in price.

    +1 for the Diadoras

On a cold commute in the middle of winter,I don't give a toss how ugly they are .
Been using a pair for the last few years and they have always worked for me.
New pair just arrived yesterday (from that supplier on eBay ).

I went through the same thing last month (but with the 'Hike the bike charge up' BA).
I checked with the BCF, my house insurer, travel insurance and finally a sports equipment travel ' specialist '.
As soon as I mentioned plane travel they would go nowhere near covering the value of the bike (£3000ish).
    BA..£400 for a single item
BCF .. Nope ,not for flights.
House contents ..£1500 but with a new (super dooper ) different policy.
Sports equip travel specialist translated to "Sorry sir ,we don't do bikes". They would of course cover a set of golf clubs for zillions!
I gave up in the end and crossed my fingers.

Oh,and I also posted and searched on here ,thinking there may be a few recommendations or old threads of people being looked after /abandoned ,nothing came up.
Of course I may just be a bit crap at searching this site.

    Good luck

A lot of people seem to slag them off but ,Avid Juicy 7s have worked for me. The only tweaking I do is to put Castrol Red Rubber grease on the pistons. The pad springs were a faff at first, but I am used to them now.
Just did the TR on them ,7 days, all conditions, one set of pads back and front(superstar gold).
