I remember reading a parenting nugget once along the lines of “if they know they have a stable, loving and supportive home, they’ll be more confident to tackle the world”.

    ^^This,every single time.

When everything hits the fan,all they need to know is that there’s a safe space (and back up) if they need it.

So many kids never have this.

I think if you use mostly Clipless ,don’t race or hike and bike all over the place, those shoes have an easier time than if you use flats,

Having spare pairs was always useful for year round commuting in bad weather and 24hr races.

Maybe a bit close to home, but the Sandstone way is nice (and easy going).

You could start on the East Coast and then keep going across to the lakes from Hexam.

Ravenber Way with a Berwick on Tweed finish, close to home again, but good if you need to bail.

This is why a lovely commute can be such a perfect thing. Putting aside the benefits of the cycling (or walking) part of it,the biggest win is that it’s ‘You time’.

Free of the day to day demands, your A to B is all you need.

    Signed … an X-supercommuter

No surprise to a lot of people.

A friends partner told me years ago about what he was like.

She had a partime job at Harrods  when she was a student and made a point of never being alone on the floor when he was aroud.

Disgusting, odious little human, just like Trump and others they imagine they are untouchable.

He will want the job, if for no other reason than it will enable/help him to get revenge on people he feels have wronged him over the last 4 years.(and keep on wringing money out of everything he can while in power).

As said above, it is ( or maybe not) always amazing how he gets away with the stunts he pulls, but then his enablers/support crew* around him are just ‘the next rung down’ on the super grifter ladder,so will make a big effort to keep the gravy train rolling.

your cat sleeping on the stairs at night is dangerous

    ^^This a 1000%.

I do not fear the huge stash of single malts that I plan to reduce over the next few months.

If not the cat ,my demise will (most likely) be an accident that involves falling over and hitting my head against a sharp edge.

Probably, as I try to stand/hop while pulling a sock/pair of pants on.

After putting up with narrow* bags that didn’t quite work,I have now gone for a long front rack with a dry bag strapped in line.

I like having space on the bars again.

This is the time of year when old bears turn their thoughts to Winter.

As the nights shorten, they check the stock of logs and their choice of malts*.

Relaxing some habits as BST (British Shaving Time)draws to a close.

Once again ,they wonder if the bike** with the circus  wheels will be given enough snow to truly perform.

    Yup,won’t be watching.

As much as I have loved a lot of the shows,I would feel sad watching Bob .

The last series should have been Mortimer and Whitehouse Done Fishing

I have been lucky enough to ‘sit in’ on a few honorary degree presentations.

As is the way on these occasions, the person receiving the award sits silently on stage while their achievements are read out by one of their peers.

I was constantly amazed (and truly humbled) by the brilliance of these people, how much they had contributed to the world, and that they had done all this hard work quietly and without a fuss.

So yeah, as much as I love science and technology, multi millionaires spunking millions to go on a jolly into space is just a bit sad.

I am sure in a few decades from now they can watch from their moon station as the Earth burns.

    Renton,glad you got it back.

In other news..after my son’s (3 weeks old)  bike was stolen from inside the bike cage at work,I have been thinking about how to slow down/piss off the scroats and their angle grinders. They gained access through the (steel) cage lock ,then sliced through the locks on his bike.

So I was wondering if cages and locks could be filled/covered with a material that would mess up/clog grinding discs.

I have done it thousands of times, but that first click of a cleat engaging at the start of a ride.It still sends a micro message to my brain saying “Here we go”.

And for that fraction of a second, everything is right in the world,a tiny moment of calm.

Most of the stories about folk getting badly injured involved a woodpile/stack.

Sa Collabra (hugely over-rated and spoilt by coaches

    I disagree.

As said above, just choose your times to visit the likes of Sa Colabra and Cap de Formentor.

If you do ride out to the Formentor lighthouse,on the way, take the wee extra climb up to the Albercutx Watchtower.

A bit of a rough road but (IMO) worth it for the views.

    Enjoy,it’s a great island.

Poorly maintained, feels unloved and cheaply run. Filthy carpet in his room and strongly smells of damp.

Kitchen with cupboards barely hanging on and multiple repairs.

Bathroom with all sorts of dodgy MDF repairs instead of properly tiled.

Grey carpet, pink walls, grey woodwork and wood chip everywhere. So ‘1970’ hospital’ vibe.

Peeling paint on all the outside woodwork.

The storage room promised is locked – and they think it’s a mistake to have it on the listing as no one uses it

I can’t see the problem, this is standard fare for( almost ) every student flat in our big cities. It will prepare him (and his new best friends)for the absolute joy of house hunting in the future years.  –>> hoof scum landlords in the slats emoji <<–  ;-)

Aye, it’s (probaly) as much to do with the fact that these are the only roads that they are ‘allowed’ to use/close.

Good luck with the Dunelm battle.

Clearly you are an STW lightweight, as your outdoor furniture was not hewn (by your own skilled hand) from hardwood.

Hardwood that had been felled in your own PRIVATE forest and seasoned for years in advance.

Aye, it was a grand day and good to see so many folk out on a Tuesday.

Biked up to Scott’s View for the first lap, then down to St Boswells for a beer/lunch and watched them charge across at the blocked A68 crossing.
