I use lard, usually Trex is my preferred brand. In the summer I use dripping as its a bit thinner.

Ooooo he’s ever so grumpy isn’t he. Other than the addition of not liking 29ers that seems to be the same rant list he wheeled out in an interview some time ago in a mountain bike magazine.

    Silly man.

All five of my bikes have flats, even the Langster commuter although those are more touring style without straps. I’ve lost count of the number of situations where a quick dab has saved me both on and off road and I’m convinced this would not be possible when clipped in. I did try SPD’s for a while but ended up not wanting to ride.

    And thats just silly.

I know you said ‘other than On One’ but I’ve just built up one of the new 2012 Inbred 29er SS specific white jobbies and its fab. IMO the welding quality and finish has improved markedly over previous On Ones I have owned and is on a par if not better than my Soul. Not light by any stretch (6lbs for the 19.5 inch) but rides lovely. Fork is a Salsa Cromoto Grande’ so frame and fork was £270. Other bits are all mid range stuff. All in its 24lbs. Its’s my “try 29er’s” bike and nothing else comes close for value.

Oh tick tock and ding dong indeed. After work ride with bike buddy, couple of beers, home, Mrs off out with the girls, another mate coming round for beer and the EU nacho mountain. Building a new 29er Saturday.

    Mmmm, wasn’t it.

I can recomend Just Cause 2. It’s a tenner in Tesco’s at the mo and I’ve had over 25 hours out of it so far. Huge area to mosey round, I believe its 400 square kilometers.

Oooo, speaking of Ultravox up there I just heard Hymm on the radio, not heard that for aaaaages. My other open tab is a download of said track.

I didn’t know that Sunline were no more but its still a lot of bar (literally) for the money!

Sounds like its a bit tight. Try loosening off the cones a bit. Adjusting cup and cone is an art!

Personally I would just replace the nipple and check the others for signs of cracking.

My chicken and chorizo Mexicana club sandwich was a little off the mark but other than that nothing to report yet.

Yep, sanitary grade and make sure it has the BS or EN standard on the side. Can’t remember which one it is though but the Screwfix no nonsense stuff is compliant and worked for me.

    That’s not what I mea……oh never mind. 🙂

Hell yeah, ride in! I’m on the bike at 6:15 every morning but only for eight miles. Twelve on the way back though.

For added excitment, spill some salt before you leave, walk under a ladder, break a mirror and tweak the nipples of superstition.

    Thanks Brant.

Will the slot dropout and horizontal dropout versions be the available in the same colours?

    Brant,

What colour are the 29er steel non swapout frames going to be?

I can recommend Far Cry 2 and Just Cause 2 if you fancy a lengthy single player game. Both can be had for about a tenner each if you look around.

Down to Sandbanks ferry and back on the Langster. Flask of coffee on a deserted Boscombe pier.

Yes, I should have gone off road but I didn’t want to get my new bargain Dare2Be jacket muddy. 😳

I run my Soul with On One rigid 26er carbon forks. As has been said above, one mans twitchy is another mans very responsive ride. I used to run it with 130mm revelations but much prefer the rigids.

Might be worth mentioning that a few weeks ago there was a virus on this site in one of the numerous ads. My AVG 2012 caught it but I believe a number of users with MSE were not so lucky.

Or I may have the wrong end of the stick altogether.

I use MSE on the netbook and AVG 2012 on the laptop – happy with both.

    What large 418 said.

Also, a coolant leak (head gasket) into the exhaust can see off oxygen sensors which in turn might have seen off your cat. Would probably be a significant loss of coolant though.

Space 1999 – the future is polyester and crimplene based.

Yep, oxygen sensor failure would cause that. With no feedback from this sensor the mixture will either be rich causing soot build up in the cat or weak causing overheating. Normally a light on the dash comes on showing the sensor has failed.

£500 does sound steep though. I’d be shopping around.

More importantly, the garage need to find out if the cat failure was caused by another problem such as overly rich mixture, too weak a mixture or possibly oxygen sensor failure. If they just change the cat without proper diagnosis the same thing might happen again.

How old is the car and how many miles has it done?

Do a search on “Ultrafire torch tips” on You Tube for a video that runs through the most common issues. Mine now appears to be fixed.

I did an extra mod to the spacer/packer that apparently older torches have by fiting a short M2 nut and bolt through the contact to give the +ve terminal a larger contact area. If yours has this you will see what I mean.

Back to the OP, yes I got an Aldi torch in the Anthracite colour and its a lovely piece of kit. Zoom is good – I was doing finger shadows on the neighbours roof last night. 😳 Nice finish as well.

    GlitterGary,

I have the same problem with the light changing mode over big bumps. What did you need to fettle? I tightened up the switch lock ring in the end which has helped but its still twitchy.

    Cheers

Something else for the mix (kick me if I am boring you). Typically for the LEDs which I have used, there is a 30% spread of luminous flux output for a given flux output bin code. So, driving sample A at 100% may result in 30% more light than sample B even though they have the same flux bin code.

Interesting. Are you sure that the colour shift you experienced wasn’t a result of a reduction in LED junction temperature as you were driving them at a lower level?

Totally agree on the optimal discharge rate for batteries.

By “discernible difference” do you mean to the Mk1 eyeball or to appropriate test gear? I would agree to the former but probably not to the latter. I’d have to look at some of my results to make sure though.

Given that the diablo is running at 100% PWM giving 900lm for one hour, would halving the PWM to 50% not result in twice the battery life and half the light then?

Tesco. The value branded one is the high speed jobbie – £5 for 0.75M or £8 for 2M.

I have seen two hope discs run from one lever. You remove the bleed nipple from the front caliper then screw in a fitting and hose then run this to the rear caliper.

I have a 37″ Samsung and its really rather good. I spent 45 minutes in John Lewis looking at the 37″ & 40″ versions of the same set next to each other on various Freeview SD programs and also the same Blu Ray player.

The only difference I could detect was that the 40″ set was 3″ bigger than the 37″ one.

I’m an ex TV repair man as well by the way. You may pick up some differences in the lab with a pattern generator and some geek time but as with Hi Fi, the only real deciding factor is personal preference.
