Some years ago attended my first reliability ride. Expected a lot of people dusting off bikes, stretching and stopping eating loads of cake.

Literally 10 mins into the ride, I was doing 30mph in the middle of the road in an echelon hanging onto a lot of whippet thin riders on full carbon bikes and deep section rims. This ride was eventually, ‘won’ by a twenty something ex-pro rider.

Make no mistake, it’s a race.

It’s no good tacking the symptoms with a physio without tackling the cause. You need a pro bike fit. I had the same and cured it by using narrower bars, and also raising bars.

If this had happened in any workplace in the country he would have been fired. A boss should never touch anyone and his 2400 word statement….come on….how is this different to the Dave Lee Travis case?

Keep positive. There have been massive advances in cancer therapy in recent years. The NHS can ‘do’ cancer very well. My Dad 80 yrs old survived it with Chemo…

Although some of these races are supposed to be 3/4th cat, its quite clear that there are much better riders involved sometimes and there is no equal standard. Either they’ve dropped down from 2nd cat or want to stay at 3/4 to just beat up everyone. So, if you get dropped in a race, put it behind you and aim for the next one.

The Glazers will sack Moyes if they think they will not get into the top4/CL. In order for the club (business) to meet its debt obligations it needs a good CL run followed by a good premiership position and on the back of both of those strong merchandising sales.

Also, if the valuation of the business changes as a result of the above or losing valuable players (assets) then the interest on payments on the debt will rise when the covenants are renegotiated.

The Glazers have treated MU as a cash cow, banking on SAF bringing success at a low investment cost, much like Wenger has done. But the reality is SAF did not sort out a terrible midfield and even resorted to bringing back Scholes..that spoke volumes….

I had a different approach. Decided what dog we wanted and then stopped people who we saw walking them for recommendations….In the end got this young lady from a farmer….Great dog for kids and just a lot of fun!

Cuff-links. Followed by board meeting. Spent a good 30 mins trying to fashion paperclips into a usable alternative. Couldn’t make it work so rolled sleeves up, looked rather odd in November.

On a slightly different issue. Had chain break on the way to work. Chain was really oily. got to work and couldn’t get all grime off my hands and out from under nails. Had to do team presentation….Now I carry a pair of silicon gloves with me…

I think there are two sorts of tips. The first is social convention, taxi’s, waiters etc. The second is a bribe or ransom where you pay the service provider to do a better job just for you or not do something. So, my mum has to pay a tip to the binmen so they don’t purposely drop rubbish on her garden (ransom), I pay the Postman, cos he’s a nice chap and will walk round the back of the house and leave all my bike bit parcels hidden (bribe).

Join a local road club and enjoy the company and cafe stops on longer rides. The social aspect will motivate you to get out.

The results came back from the lab. It is “chrysotile”, with asbestos in! It appears from what I have read, this is the least dangerous and was not disturbed since I have been there, I am now going to move out pronto. Luckily I was not in the workshop a lot, just using it for storage and the odd car repair, but some people are in these units all day, and have removed boards etc

I am also considering going to get some legal advice…

I learnt a lot here, mainly that you can’t tell by looking at a material whether it contains asbestos. Even people who appear knowledgeable are not, just as Tymbian says it needs lab testing. Secondly, I learnt that Landlords may appear to know what they are doing but may be in a position of ignorance as well.

Thanks Nuke, that is very helpful. I called Cavendish and they do the test these days for £21.60! I will send it off tomorrow and get the results in 48 hours….great service.

Thanks for all the posts. I tackled the landlord on site today. He says he bought the property in 1982 and that the surveys then did not flag anything up. He says it is not asbestos. At that point, just by chance a demolition guy was hanging around and he got into the debate and broke a bit of the material off and said “a million %” its not asbestos. Interestingly when he broke it, it was very hard and very brittle, not at all fibrous, almost like cement or stone. No-one could give me the name of the material… The landlord was then quite unhelpful and basically said if you don’t like it then leave! The area here is quite rural and there aren’t many other workshop options. I said I’d think about it….Does anyone know how much it would cost to have a small sample analysed? Could a real expert tell just by looking at it?

I had the same issue, in fact our MTB group who ride in all weathers, all through the winter have all reverted back to internal bearings.
I ride a lot of miles and got fed up of replacing…It’s common sense that the external bearings with plastic top hats etc are going to have a lower life than the internally sealed ones…

I went for the simple option of a shimano un55 with a middleburn. I did toy with the idea of a Royce BB but the fact you need a special tool to install put me off.

I don’t think you need worry about weight, the total difference would be insiginifcant propoirtion of the whole.

I never looked back, its “fit and forget” now as opposed to fit and listen for the creak in 2 months time…..

Estate agents are commission agents acting for the seller not the buyer. Their job is to get the highest price possible for the asset. The problem I have with them is that they are usually ignorant of planning rules, surveying, mortgage issues, market trends etc etc In the USA and other parts they have to be qualified and generally are much more knowledgeable.

The question is how the bank would value the property for mortgage purposes, also you need to work out what is the maximum you will pay.

As well as the cost going up dramatically, in our post office they now insist on being told what is in the parcel and then quoting a price for the parcel including insurance which I didn’t want…..I’ll take a look at collect+…..

A rider in a European team told me Horner weighs 60kg, therefore he has great power to weight…a key part of his success.

I think that he has always been good, but now its a (more) level playing field and the real talent shines through.

I think the CPS prosecuted this case knowing evidence was weak, to provide the public with evidence that they are effective in these type of cases. The reality is that the recent Rochdale et al abuse cases, showed that in more complex cases they have been found wanting. Excellent recent ‘file on 4’ programme on this very subject.

I don’t think you can’t treat cannabis as a single substance. The strengths now of skunk is vastly more powerful than was previously available. Wouldn’t want my kids to be driven by someone who has just had a lungful of this…has to stay illegal….

Just reading above about how much the brake discs and pads. These are really easy to change for a home mechanic and there are lots of high quality non-Audi suppliers….hi-spec for one…..High performance car servicing need not be so expensive, but there’s no way of getting out of the petrol and insurance costs…I was looking at the Jag s type R….

I juts can’t warm to him. The fact is the field is weak, his main GC rivals Schlek, Contador, etc are all out of form. I like the fact that he attacks but then now I am a fan of Quintana.

There seems to be a general view that Wiggins can’t ‘do the accelerations’ ‘can’t climb’ etc etc Looking back at his past he has already adapted his style from track to GC contender, I think he will prepare again for the tour next year by training using climbing and attacking…Is that so difficult to do? Wiggins can beat Froome, he has more class and he is tougher mentally.

I’ve got a 10year old Audi that has needed quite a bit of work. I do as much as I can myself. The usual faults wiper motors, suspension, are straightforward and tutorials are on youtube.

Audi dealers’ labour charge is a complete rip-off…£200 to change oil etc. For jobs I cannot do I go to an independent Audi guy, the only problem there is that the parts may have to come from Audi….

But if you get the Audi part number then google it, you may find a much cheaper source in US/DE. I bought some suspension parts from USA and saved £750 a corner………. :D

Not an expert, but encountered a similar thing at work a while back. IIRC this would consitute a ‘major’ change in the work role and therefore agreement with the employee is needed unless explicitly allowed for in an employment greement, or the employer could face a ‘constructive dismissal’ tribunal.

The kids who stay in the state school, and get the same A-level results as your kids do, are 99% certain to be more capable, more hard-working and have more academic potential. But they have the same A-level grades. So how do the universities deal with that if a selection has to be made?

    Utter rubbish.

Although no substitute for professional advice, the Steve Peters book about the chimp paradox made a hell of a lot of sense to me.
