Four pot Guides versus two pot XT’s, four pot’s should win every time

Since the rear triangle doesn’t incorporate a a pivot at the rear dropout, the rear axle shouldn’t benefit from a rear bolt through axle – that’s what Mondraker and other brands like Santa Cruz believe anyway.

My good lady has just taken delivery of one of these, loves it she does!

    http://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/mountain-bikes-c1/29ers-c14/salsa-spearfish-3-complete-bike-2013-p1065

We ordered the XS size for 5’3″ height. There’s a nice amount of seat post exposed so she could fit her dropper post without any trouble although the 60mm stem got ditched for one of mine (45mm) as she says she has short arms.

Yep, I have one and all seems good.
I took out the 17t as advised, used a type 2 X9 medium cage mech and slightly let out the B screw.
    All in all very simple.

I use a pair of Hans Dampf’s on mine for everything; 2.35″ Trailstar on the front and 2.35″ Pacestar on the rear. Good for Peaks hammering. in fact, the best tyres I have ever used! Ran tubeless so as yet no punctures at all, fast rolling for what they are (better than Maxxis High Rollers imo) and predictable on the corners.
I found these to be the cheapest…

As you can see from the rim profiles the dimensions are very similar but the Arch EX rim is reinforced both in material density and structure.
If in doubt go for the Arch EX. Even my missus has dinged her Crest rims and that has never happened on any rim before.

It used to exist didn’t it?
It was called a Blur 4x, 115mm rear and up to 160mm front. Was heavy-ish though and the geo is quite steep for today’s typical angles.

I looked about for a frame as Chilled 76 is doing and this was the closest I got..

Huh, you shouldn’t really do that until she’s been through her first season.

Our little lady got done before her first season by our local veterinary hospital. Apparently done at this time it hopefully eradicates most if not all lady dog problems.
Different vets believe in different procedures but the important thing is we all want our pets to have a long, happy and healthy life.

    I agree with Houns.

His early stuff was pretty good though like Shallow Grave and Trainspotting.

Me n t’wife were discussing our next car for which she would predominantly drive when a Mazda 6 estate rolled passed us. I said “how’s about one of those?”. To which she replied “Yeah, it’s OK but I prefer my cars to be Japanese……..”

Brainflex – Artics are designed to ‘bend in the middle’ regardless of a fancy steering systems and cannot be locked out for reversing.

Try driving one before making obvious statements.

There’s no way the Artic on the right has an operating 5th wheel in this video, no way.
Just check out the driver, casual as ****. You have to make constant tiny corrections, no matter what you are driving.
How do I know? Driving one for 13 years now….

Well done Volvo trucks. Great video!

Got exactly that on my hardtail.
Nice quiet set up but a 32t could find you spinning out easily as I found. I went for a 34t up front in the end.

Better than V’s for sure but should be left in the early 90’s imo!
At this time of year, I’d just look for a full bike in a sale with discs. With modern geo and confidence inspiring discs, it could make all the difference to the good lady and turn her into the next T-Mo!

make sure it’s LEZ exempt – on an 02 it might not be i think

Last time I looked, vans under 3.5 tonne GVW were LEZ exempt.

Everyone should own a chameleon at some point. They’re bloody brilliant!!!!

    So true,
I don’t ride mine anymore but would never let it go. Kept the frame as a medal of four years of great countrywide mountain biking

Rolling in to that drop at that speed would have made no difference on a full susser, still major otb moment regardless of travel…

Jeremy Clarkson, stood next to him at a urinal in the NEC a while back. Gave me a ‘don’t look at my cock’ kind of look.
Saw Paula Radcliffe a couple of months ago in M&S simply food at Tamworth services. Gave me a warm, friendly smile.

Push tuning improved my Sektor’s no end.
I believe it took them from a single to a dual circuit, removed the spiking when going through repeated hits like rock gardens.

Had Pike u-turns on mine. Stayed at 120mm unless going down the long, steep stuff. Mine was/is a medium but my mates was an xl and he ran a Lyrik u-turn on his after a while, turned into a ground crushing animal!

We agreed though that the mid setting was the sweet spot mind…

Agreed, was out on the road bike tonight just hitting 40 mph on a straight road decent with my hands on the hoods was deeply uncomfortable. Daren’t even put my hands on the drops either. I have clocked myself ona hardtail at over 45 mph and was still wanting to go faster.
I dare say that if the mountain to road bike useage ratio was reversed then I think I would be telling you I didn’t know what all the fuss was about and I could hit over 50 mph non handed ;)

Swapped the hanger and fitted a total of four mechs to it. The two Xt’s remained bent but an old X7 and a roadie mech were aligned perfectly, just cannot use ’em.
I too beleive the culprit to be the Bionicon guide.
    Xt mech number three then….

MTB Rob – Very true, worked in a couple of shops over the years and bent mech hangers on new bikes were common place. Cube’s I remember were particularly bad from lack of protection to the area in the shipping boxes.

    Cheers all,
    Tim.
