Thanks Damascus for that info. That would make sense given the 3 month deadline to complete the task, and that my manager wouldn’t drop something that ‘weighty’ on us for no reason.

Just reading through the posts. I work for a district council on the Homes for Ukraine scheme. I think I’ll follow some of the advice and produce some process flows and a doc. Agree that the manager should have a decent idea of my role, but makes no difference to the request. I’m not getting the impression it’s about redundancies (I’m on a 1 year FTC),more identifying who does what (and making sure they understand their roles). Going to brush up my GIS skills and consolidate with the data stuff I’ve been doing the past year.

Thanks for the replies. I think its our manager getting ’round trying to understanding exactly what we all do. I’m the only one in the team that produces work flows and processes. They go out for comment and that’s the last I hear about it! I often spend time showing colleagues how to do some basic stuff in Excel, Outlook, sharing stuff on Teams. We’ve been given until the end of January to draft something up!!

I feel for you Daz. Was in the same situation. Feels rough for a while but you’re always her Dad, and the bond stays. I have a great relationship with my (now 14) only daughter (only child). Her time with me is stress free and relaxed, kind of a break from the weekly routine with her Mum. Sometimes we’ll have a day doing nothing, sometimes go out for the day. Make your time with her work. Kids do bounce back and better happy Mum & Dad than arguments at home. Best wishes, Chris.

Excellent work there. I live just off the Fosse Way at the NE end Warks/Oxon borders. Haven’t ridden in years but inspired to (re)visit some familiar places. Love the ethos of bimbling through nature, landscape and history. Thank you.

I don’t get a mobile signal inside my house, so keep my old analogue phone as a back up in case of emergencies. My new house phone is VOIP. When I was involved with deploying new VOIP phones to colleges and departments at a big University it was standard practice to keep a couple of analogue emergency phone lines (such as in the porters lodge).

As an ex local this would be the walking route I’d do. If coming M40 then A34 I’d use Oxford Parkway park and ride (frequent buses). I’d recommend getting off at the stop just before St Giles (opposite Little Clarendon Street). Walk down Keble Road, right along Parks Road (Pitts Rivers / University Museum). I’d recommend The Kings Arms on the corner (best to sit in the snug at the back for atmosphere) to Catte Street (Bridge of Sighs), down Queen’s Lane to the High Street, across to Magpie Lane, right along Merton Street back to the High St, right then left past St Mary’s church, left down Brasenose Lane to covered market, out along Cornmarket towards The Ashmolean Museum and back to St Giles. Sounds complicated but have a look at Google Maps. Takes maybe an hour normal walking speed. You’ll see a lot of recognizable places. Oxford city centre really isn’t that big. Have a great day.

I’m quite surprised to see (at the time I did the survey) the majority taking the survey are male, middle aged, have high incomes and own quite a few bikes costing upwards of £2,000 each (and more). It kind of sounds like golf or something. Long way from Klunkers, jumpers for goal posts etc :)

My wife asked me to pick up a few things from the local Co-op in the village where I worked one lunchtime whilst I was at work, including a couple of things for our baby. This included a large tub of vaseline, a cucumber and something else which I can’t remember. It was only when I got back to work and sat down at my desk that I realised what it looked like! Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Hi there. I had a loss of pressure in my system. It turned out to be field mice that had gnawed the plastic pipe unser the suspended floor in my living room. Evidently they like to do this to keep their gnashers sharp. Resolved by replacing pipe with metal shielded pipe. Problem solved.

Many years ago when I was a young commis chef at an Oxford college. Opened drain tap on floor standing deep fat dryer and drained old oil. Cleaned inside of dryer. Poured in a significant amount of fresh oil from big drum of oil. Watched as new oil flowed out all over kitchen floor. Also at same college: they had a large long wooden table that would be loaded up with plates, bowls etc for lunchtime. On first day in job told to put out said crockery. This table had a pair of ‘wings’ to make it longer. I piled up loads of crockery on one end. Result: you know the scene in the original black and white Titanic film where it gracefully slides into the icy Atlantic? Made a hell of a crashing sound in the empty dinner hall.

The advantage of an analogue landline is that you still have telephony if your broadband goes down in an emergency.

I got my 11 year old daughter to tidy up the wispy bits around the nape with a razor. She did a good job so let her loose with the kitchen scissors for a trim. She passed with flying colours. I’m 54 with a balding crown and going grey. I figured that as there’s only me and I’m working from home, then it didn’t really matter if she messed it up. Think of it as a trust building excercise!
