Such a shame about Chris, one of the most likeable blokes you could hope to meet, clocked out far too early☹️ Got great memories of weekenders in Scotland and the Lake District, in particular coming down Dollywagon Pike with Chris, Smudge and some of Chris’s German mates, think we all took a tumble that day😊 RIP mate.

Was in Madeira with Freeride Madeira last May, was the third time we’ve been, did some of the stuff they did for the Trans Madeira Enduro. What a place, as techy as you like with a real variety of trails!

Love to try a trip with Basque MTB next!

Cheers Tracey, they’re the ones with the DT Swiss internals, £400ish.
Also liking the look of Hope Pro4 on DT Swiss ex471 at Moonglu for £440. Don’t really want to spend much more than that.

I’ve been using the Race Matrix pads in my Hope M4s for a while now and I’d say they’re the best pads I’ve used, not tried the new finned version yet tho!

Was there in May and just loved it, just signed up for next May! Pretty sure we did the all mountain package which was spot on with a 160mm bike. If you’re there on a family hols I’d be tempted to stay with that level unless your last name is Fairclough or Bryceland:-)

Cheers for your replies, agree that hard tails can be fun. Was out on my old Marin Rocky Ridge on the weekend cos the forks on my big bike needed looking at and had a blast but was only a short blast round Cannock but still think a short travel FS with slackish geometry would be even better!

Yetidave, I hadn’t tried that so that’s worth giving a go! Loco, if after I’ve tried everything and the bugger still won’t undo and I have to resort to drilling the head of the bolt off can I buy another bolt from yourselves? Cheers

Ta for the replies, tried compressing the fork but bolt still spins, seems to be common problem! Was hoping to sort it myself rather than send fork away!

Bloody Nora! Had me finger hovering over the buy button on a pair of 160 26″ Pikes to go on my Alpine 160 but with this and other recent posts on STW about various clunking, tapping and creaking issues I’m not so sure now 😐

Another one interested here.Looking for something lighter than my coil Lyriks to go on my Alpine 160. I’m not one for messing about with fork set up too much so thinking paying extra for stuff I won’t use would be a waste so maybe the RC version would be the one to go for.The 160 version isn’t as cheap as the 150 but still pretty reasonable.

Hey Weeksy get yourself booked on a few uplifts . I regularly ride with a bunch of guys and gals most whom have raced DH and stuff like the Mega etc and since I’ve been been doing uplifts with them on a fairly regular basis I’d say my riding and confidence on drops, roots etc has come on loads . It was really noticeable when I got to spend 10 days in Les Arcs this summer, still minced down a few bits but by the end I was getting down stuff I never imagined I would . Go on you know you want to:-)

I was going to ask what are they like on consumables, linkage bearings,BB’s etc . Was planning on getting a frame and fitting a pair of new Pikes and using my existing M4s and Hope/Flows wheels, not sure about drive train yet.

Cheers for the replies,Munro biker that’s a tasty looking bike, the Pikes look really good! TBH I’ve been struggling with whether to go for a Stumpy Evo or an Enduro but it’ll have to be whatever turns up s/hand!

Yes, that was me and it was Danni and Beef I knew. I’m sorry that trail was techier than I led on. I forgot how wild a couple of bits are.

Yes I pretty sure it was you Peter,I’m crap with names but I do remember people’s faces and that bike’s very distinctive!!That track was a bit out of my league I’m afraid but it was my first Alps trip!Mind you by the end of the holiday I might of been able to ride a bit more of it :-)BTW I was the old duffer at the back on the black Orange 5!

Hello mate, well I’m a middle aged fat bloke and I enjoyed watching your video 🙂 BTW were you riding in Les Arcs earlier this year? We met a young lad who knew some of the party I was with, and he showed us a real techy track back down to Peisey and watching your vid I’m pretty sure it was you!

Composite,if your doing a ride the Wednesday after I’d be up for it,in Solihull so pretty local for me,been looking for alternatives to Cannock and Sutton Park for a while,

Out of interest Tollah, what did you sign up for with Riviera Bike? Not interested in full on DH type stuff but like what I saw in your vids, techy singletrack type stuff. Were you using uplifts? Don’t mind doing some climbing but not keen on grinding up huge climbs for a holiday 🙂

Excellent vids Tollah, the riding looks spot on :-)Get those other vids sorted ok?

Got a 5 frame recently myself and couldn’t get hold of the lower bearing anywhere, chap at 18Bikes said that Hope hadn’t got any 1.5″ bearings, so I went for a Superstar T3 Zerostack headset for 40 quid cos I wanted to get the bike up and running, looks well made and comes with 1 1/8+ 1 1/2 lower races.

Thanks for your replies, defo given me something to think about! I should really of said that I was thinking more Spain/Pyrenees than the Alps! As for the type of riding I fancy, well I suppose technical singletrack/AM type stuff springs to mind, usually do the black graded stuff at trail centres, enjoy an uplift day.Don’t fancy a DH type holiday, looks a bit full on,but some sort of shuttle/uplift would be good, don’t object to a bit of climbing tho! Got an Alpine 160 BTW
Got to say BasqueMTB is ticking all the right boxes, been following their video blogs for a while, and looks like the type of riding I’m after just need to see if it appeals to Wifey and daughter 🙂
