Milkie I think the tea holder will be my next purchase, followed the shelf and then by a stool finally a tool.

It’s very important to have your tea to hand in the proper position – it’s no.2 on Sheldon Brown good cycle maintenance list. Number 1 being get a good stand.

Thanks for all your comments and have a good weekend, whatever you’re doing and wherever you’re riding.

Just bought a Park pcs10 from merlin for 98.00 plus 5% cashback from Quidco.

Now that’s bit of a bargain as CRC is selling it for 134.99

Thought I’d let you know if anyone’s interested in getting one.

Dura Ace *except for extreme wet* when they are hopeless. Koolstops cost ££££s

Aren’t all road brakes rubbish in really heavy rain? Even when you stop the wheels turning the bike still slides.

They feel a lot heavier than the old wheels with tyres and tubes in, but they are a third of the price.

Being heavy will make them harder to push which in turn will make me stronger and fitter no? :P

Dura Ace for me as well, they perform well in all conditions.

Never used the others I might give them a go next time.

It is very good, hot or cold. You could buy some from your local Chinese supermarket if you have one and buy some gunpowder tea. It’s loose leaf and air dried, so you can start off with a few leaves., then as you get used to the taste you can up your dosage.

You get loads in a box and it last for ages. If you don’t have a local Chinese Market you can probably order it online.

If you really don’t like it, try redbush (roibos), which you can take it with milk and sugar.

+1 for the stuffing then with newspaper. The more tightly packed the better wicking it is.

    hmm looks dodgy to me.

I think trek bought out klein in late 95/early 96.

My 97 attitude is still chehalis built and teh 98 model was similar, I think 1999 they got fat and started weighing more than 3 lb. which could be the year they moved to wisconsin. but i think the attitude always had internal routing.

    i bet it’s a rebadged pulse. <spits>

Production moved in 2002. My 2001 attitude is one of the last ‘not a real Kleins’ to be made in the real Klein’ Factory When I grow up I’ll buy myself a real Klein with a crazy paint job – just for bragging rights!

    Thanks everyone.

I’ve asked on Retrobike as well, I didn’t think it was a ‘proper’ Klein anyway but at least I know it’s not fake but Trek Klein. Didn’t know about the dropout cracking 8O

Might see if he’ll accept a low offer.

    Yawn.

    Really a fixed wheel debate?

Can’t we all just get along -there are pricks on all sorts of bikes. It’s just the ones on fixies have beards and tighter jeans. Hopefully the idiots will learn to ride considerately and not influence the noobs along the way.

I see too much cutting up, running lights/zebra crossings – it just gives us all a bad name and makes taxi drivers want to knock us off even more.

That Explosif looks to be the same year as my Cinder Cone, do you know which year it is? I think ’94 but the catalog at konaretro doesn’t show them with a P2.)

It’s ’94, they were pictured with suss and in small print in said P2 available as an option

Sell them both and get something made this century

    You mean like this?

 I know it’s not a ‘real Klien’ But I thought Retrobike was where the Klein purists resided – so I thought it was safe to show here.

I had a 98 explosif as well – it was too small for me really, so the wife – used it once or twice. Then I sold it to get the one above.

So she’s just told me to stop whining and sell it or keep it – just to shut up about it!

    [b} Is that a win?[/b]

If I keep it the FS project will be delayed – but then I’m not riding much anyway as we bought a *project* so most of my spare time is spent on DIY.

Is it sane to have 3 mbs that you don’t ride much?

    ARRGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    I”M SOOO CONFUSED

I want to keep it but – I also want a yeti asr5 or a cotic hemlock or pace 405

I’ve got a Klein Attitude race (building/updating to xc spec ) and a pace 305 at the moment (hardtail trail monster)

So do I sell the 305 frame and build the bits onto a FS or keep everything and have a angry wife – she’s not buying the – well you’ve got loads of bags and shoes analogy

I was born Into the Early 90s mb scene and Konas were the shizzle. I finally got my explosif 5 years ago and here it is.

I’m selling it at the moment. But half of me wants to find a quite corner for it in the loft – then build it back up for some classic single rack action.

But I also want a FS – I’ve got a long travel hardtail, an xc machine being built up at the moment and the Kona. Am I being greedy?

Don’t know much about the new ones but the steel frames are as good as you can get.

    Brilliant! ARS5!

Title should have been ‘show me your ARS5’

Keep the stories coming, I’m checking the back of the sofa for change – hopefully there’s 2K in there.

The cracking bit is a bit unnerving – maybe it’s just a batch fault.

One on ebay was on for £1800 if I could have sold a kidney in time -I’d have bought it.

Send i a pic anyway as it might not be on that weekend – it might be a school day – so you could take a holiday and earn some cash or pull a sickie and earn double bubble – not that I’m recommending that as that’s sneaky and bad for the economy -but not the personal one.

I’ve been maintaining my bikes all my life without using a torque wrench – I’ve never stripped a bolt. But I’ve recently bought a Pace and am upgrading my Klein to discs. So rather than guess what’s right – I thought a torque wrench would be useful as I don’t want to over/under tighten bolts in the hubs or on the disc mounts.

It all boils down to being a disc brake novice and wanting to get things right. V brakes were much simpler to set up but they don’t half fatigue my arms on these modern trails.

I’ll be posting about bleeding tips soon no doubt.

i got a fully built yeti 575 for £1600 in the US the frame here was £1350 and with the same build £3200 so i saved £1600(this was when the dollar was $1.86 to the £1). just rode it an left the mud on it when i packed into the bike bag. i have cracked the frame an had to send it back to the shop i got it, for warranty so bare this in mind 10weeks without a bike.

you should have bought 2 bikes :)

nothing wrong with that, I’d have a plastic Ribble if I could and a titanium Merlin and a steel… the list is long. Far too long for someone with just a shed anyway.

A contract is best, there’s usually a get out clause as well. If you’re not happy at all just have a word and give them 2 months notice. If you’ve got a contract and a good deposit (6 or 8 weeks) they’ll be more than happy to comply.

As for expenses – new furniture, stuff for decorating, tools etc. I think you can even get a kitchen/bathroom done as well. All this can be classed as reasonable expenses – sadly a new full susser can’t :-)

McHamishs post is an eye opener – just make sure you get as much information as you can about them and start within your circles of friends.

    Good luck
