AVP was a nice spin off as well.

Really? It was a bit tenuous.

The alien skull in predictor 2 was a touch of brilliance but AvP just felt like the humans were thrown in for the sake of dialog. Saying that it was better than starship troopers.

No one likes a damp crack do they – apart from you Binners.

Race blades on for about 9 months of the year and crack nice and dry no matter how hard it’s raining.

I was there last week, you can ride around Cilan hean but apart form that it’s rubbish.

Went to Cyb and Llandegla but there’re not exactly local.

    Do you know any locals?

Oh – and riding rims past the wear limit can have pretty severe consequences.

Wasn’t intentional, just a case of non existent maintenance, then one day ‘oh what are those marks’

The cracks have worsened initially they were hairlines in the powder coating but now they are starting to look a bit more serious.

DT Swiss forks – seriously light.

    Magura Durin SL 1200g about £700 😯
    DT Swiss XRC 100 Twin Shot: 1170g About £1035 😯 😯 😯

All depends how deep your pockets are

Go to http://www.xcracer.com/shop/ and get your credti card out.

The mt zoom and scandium stuff is stupid light.

I only discovered this shop after I built my XC bike and now think it’s a bit tubby.

    cheap, but not supper light!

    +1 for these.

    Time to go tubeless?

and +1 for this as well.

    can I do that?

I’ve not done it since ’94. Is it the same course every year?

I do remember a long road climb near the end, but would be able to tell you what it was called.

I’ll be entering next year or I might wait until the year after to make it a nice round 20 years.

    Get these

Plug one in to your router and the other where you need it, saves messing with a long cable.

If you can’t have fun at one I suspect you’d be best off quitting riding bikes and just stick to posting online…
Its driving to one, the time spent in transit to get there that makes me expect something ‘good’.

Then you get the cafe like at CYB where the staff need to learn the importance of how fast lightning moves (or at least try moving fasting that a sloth).

You could always take your own lunch, that certainly would expedite things and leave you more time for riding.

I went to Brenin yesterday and had a blast. I took a friend who rented a FS and we rode some trails. The fact you can go somewhere and rent a very decent bike (fuel ex8) and ride is brilliant. It makes it fun and accessible for people who want to get back in to riding.

In my mind trail centres are just bike parks without a chairlift – They’re a place you drive to, to ride your bike on purpose-built trails, then come home. So why can’t we have riding that’s as technically challenging as some of the stuff at E.g. Chatel bike park / Whistler etc?

Isn’t this just a matter of time, I’m sure most centres have pland for expansion as well as skills areas/pump tracks we could start petitions for more advanced trails.bsince we are their customer base, I’m sure they would listen.

I’ve ridden it. The jumps are ok but not as good as they appear in the video. I was a bit disappointed.

I can only go by my experience and what it shows in the video. I really enjoyed it and kayak23 is really having a blast. You seem to ride more freeride stuff (according to the trail centre/AM post) so of course you’d find it all a bit lame.

    It’s a bit meh.
I’d love it for a local xc blast but not for a day out.

I agree with you there you could easily do 2 laps in a morning. But if you did stay there all day you could get a load of 13 year olds to show you how to ride the skills, pump tracks or keep riding the trail harder each time.

I’d love to spend a full day there just to see how much air I could get with each successive lap.

After all aren’t trail centres practice for when you get on the ‘real stuff’?

sometimes I just want to get as much air as I can at every opportunity. Trail centres and Llandegla in particular are good for that.
A set of proper dirt jumps or a bmx track would be much better for that than the jumps at Llandegla.

    Did you watch that video?

They jumps loo just fine to me.

Great video and skills to match.

This has been interesting for me as my main riding mate has been trying to get me to go for ages. He has recently had a road to Damascus moment. He used to be sniffy about trail centres, not feeling he had had a day out if we hadn’t pushed and floundered across a trackless bog for 5 hours. Now he can’t get enough of them partly I think because his son os really into them. I’ll give it a go, no time on a bike is entirely wasted but it sounds as if I won’t become a regular

Ride it first, them make up your mind. It might not be the hardest but it was fun. Really good fun. The downhills are fast and encourage you to go faster, it’s no Rangers Path but if you do have a spill you will be punished. I’d happily spend more time there as I would at any trail centre or natural trail. The fact there’s so much variety to ride should is a good thing and should be celebrated.

If you’re finding too easy push harder, that’s what we did, there’s loads of unexpected air but as long as you’re focused you come out with a grin.

It’s not for everyone which I’m glad off as there’s more room for those who like ‘that kind of thing’.

We should organise a retro Kona ride.

As for seatpost, think it might be a 27.2.

Again I’d ask the experts on retrobike, they are a endless font of nformation.

I just need a seatpost and collar and V brake dogcollar (anyone know where i can get one?) to finish it.
Anybody happen to know what size post and collar i need? My calipers broke

If you put a post on retrobike for a dog collar you might get one, but it’ll cost you £15/20 ish.

Check out http://www.konaretro.com/ for old catalogues.

I was expecting something for all that climbing at the end, I spoke to a guy who my friends were renting a cottage off and he said its been changed recently there used to be a good descent into the car park but now there’s only the climb.

Good climb though isn’t it? You can really taste your lungs at the end.

That’s so painfully sad and utterly beautiful at the same time.

An excellent piece of filmmaking, you can really feel the sense of loss and the joy of memories.

Llandegla to me feels like a lot of effort for not much reward. It’s a strange place as I always feel I have ridden further uphill than I have ridden downhill, the complete opposite of Innerleithen of Glentress for example.

The first time I rode Llandegla I was expecting a nice run down to the car park for example, it never appeared?

I know what you mean, the end of the red trail is quite a big climb and there is no ‘reward’. But I didn’t mind that and the down bits really encouraged us to attack them.

Not been to Glentress, would like to give it a go.

its an alloy cup on a steel frame, the non drive side was plastic, the drive side of a BB is normally reverse threaded i checked that so have been turning it the right way

another good shout about the coca-cola, i dont know where id get ammonia??

    POSTED 48 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST

You can buy it from any hardware shop, the kind with buckets and mops and stuff hanging outside. It’s pretty nasty stuff though do it outside. You’ll have to leave it over night but it really does work.

Heavy rain on Monday, then showers and a bit of hale yesterday. Didn’t ride today but it was bright and clear. Tomorrow’s looking good and so is the weekend. Looks like you’ll have a good week.

Off to Brenin tomorrow for a blast round MBR. I went up to Lee in jan but it was iced over and the mrs who new to off road riding was that keen on riding an iced up quarry.

Will give it a go next time we’re up, gisburn looks good as well. All I need is one week off a month to go riding and I’ll be happy.

Jedi is also on my list quite close to the top now.

    I’m not sure whether to:

    a) be greedy and do a solo session
    b) arrange to get my riding buddy in on it.
    c) book a session with mrs eye who’s a real novice

What ever, I really want to be jedi’d

    What’s the cup made from?

Is it aluminum/alloy (I know steel s an alloy as well, but can we let it slide this once?) if it is, it’s probably fused.

You can try pouring coca-cola or household ammonia into the bb shell. That should free it up.

Ammonia worked for a very stuck seatpost a few years back.

ahhh, the fire road climbs. I get what you mean but I don’t mind grinding out a long dull climb (must be my inner roadie) 🙂

    Scot:

Just watched a vid of the rangers path descent looks pretty intense. How did you get up three, did you ride up and what bie did you use. The guy on the vid had a orange 224. The path looks like it would eat an average bike.
