Cycle surgery (the one near Spittlefields not on Spittlefields) has Sweet stuff.

Think there’s a shop in Scotch-land that sells it as well

Death is inevitable, but maybe not form your first ride in SPDs.

Keep them nice and loose, you’ll be fine.

I sheared off a bolt in my Hope mini master cylinder, after much messing around (ordering new bits) it turn out I could just about grab it with my nails and unscrew it.

Let your finger nails grow then try it, there may be enough metal to grab it won’t be tight because it’s the head that does the clamping.

Thanks to CP’s rec for the cobalt drill bits and cutting fluid, finishing the job only took 15mins of drilling this morning using the garden bench and my cordless drill.

The amount of material coming away was impressive. I was using cutting fluid, applying minimum pressure and taking my time. Suddenly the whole thing made a bang and retaining plate shot out of the bottom, because the bolt was so that tight.

Thanks to all the advice above, you’ve saved me a lot of time and having to buy a new stem.

    Thanks again STW.

mmmmmmmmmmm they look a bit er, sh!te but they are cheap though in looks, build and price.

£99 though probably built by orphans welding the tubes together in unventilated caves somewhere in the ‘booming economies’.

I’m agreeing with Mr Agreeable on this. Being clipped is more helpful with the bottom park of the pedal stroke where you can drag your foot backwards, the upstroke should take care of itself.

When pulling up on a climb there’s always the risk of becoming unclipped and kneeing yourself in the face or lifting the back wheel up as your weight’s forward.

    Done it.

Q 7 needs a no as I’ve never had one.

    and Q8 needs a why.

There are different levels of bike fit, will you be catering for them all?

From the basic ‘I just bought a bike and need to ride it’ to the ‘I’m racing this season and need everything bang on’ fit. But I suppose it depends on who you’re going to market it too.

Be interesting to see it when it’s done.

Do you sell much through Apples newsstand / iTunes? I thought most of the digital sub bods would just download the pdf through one of the recommended app (Good reader or Bookman) Thats what I do, then you (ST) get the whole sub price and the big A doesn’t take it’s cut.

There’s are other publishing format such as Zinio, that allow you a multi platform distribution network without having to go to the expense of building native apps. But you probably know this and have explored all the options so I’ll shut up.

Finally does ST have plans to make the digital version a richer experience than just a PDF. Like embedding video and having interactive sections and adverts, spreads changing layout when you switch the orientation of the device etc. Wired magazine is a good example of what can be achieved in digital magazine publishing.

Well done. I hope you are riding in 5 years.

    As Mark Twain brilliantly put it;

“Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I have hope for the human race. …”

And you Sir are indeed an adult.

Ordered the bits and some cutting fluid. Thanks for the link and tips CP and Chives.

I just need to get the head off then the rest is easy, my TiN bits have done about half of it, so hopefully these will get the rest done.

Yes I did exactly what Tim suggested but the bolts are in so tight that the splines on the Torx bit started to distort.

The bikes second hand so whoever put the stem on used a superhuman amount of force and no copper slip/grease

I’ll buy some decent Bosch bits and drill it out squirting in WD40 along the way. I’m about half way through the head so I’ll keep on drilling.

You get a one spare with it, but for £12.99 I think they’ve made it pretty diposable.

Unless Park ones fit – be pretty good it they did.

dantsw13: do you know how they cope with 1/8 SS chains?

I tried the methods above but they didn’t work.

So I’ve got the drill the bolt out, I got some TiN bits, they started off well but aren’t doing anything now, so can you recommend a decent set of metal drill bits?

First bit was intended as a respectful, heavy post-modern pastiche of the films you may find on the site of a well know luxury brand of cycling apparel.

The second bit is much more Morvelo.

I thought it was a bit Ra…. as well. 🙂

But they don’t ‘own’ monochrome / good cinematography.

Nice video and with good soundtrack.

    Nice one.

Tim, yes only one bolt (left side) is rounding off, the other side took a bit of swinging on to get it moving. Had to get the socket set out and standard Allen key wouldn’t do anything.

It was done up tighter than my cars wheel nuts 😯

Not got a impact wrench but the drill’s got a slip clutch. So I’ll try that with the other side tightened up.

Tish: when you say crack the bolt do you mean to get it moving or actually crack the head.

    Thanks for the tips.

The Superman trailer was quite good as well.

    Well I enjoyed that.

The only issue was the ratio of salty to sweet popcorn was 90/10, when it should have been an even 50/50 -very disappointing.

Film was as exciting as the last 2.

Now about the product placement, didn’t notice it much did anyone else?

Do you need a braze on or does your old one have a band? Your old one will have your tube diameter on the inside if it’s a band.

How much do you want to spend?

    Tiagra is cheap.

Go on take the p1ss ask for a Park, you have given them 2 lovely grand kids.

You deserve it, your bike deserves it, the kids can use it when you teach them bike tinkering skills. In an investment.

Convinced yet or shall I bang on some more?
