Variety helps. if u’ve lost the mojo try a little change. different type of ride, join a club and help some noobs, seek out a scout group and see if they need a helper for a ride, trailbuilding clubs always need helpers, simplify your riding etc etc
don’t take it to seriously it’s just messing about on bikes, try to keep any fitness you have regardless of the biking though :o)

Unfair Kerley. The wealthy are looking for the best education not an advantage over others so they will become a huge asset to the state schools that their kids now visit.

    Maybe? :o)

(It costs from £3,950-£8,595 per pupil to educate a kid. Multiply that by 600,000.)

    A truly mad policy.

Are you implying it’s a mad policy because we can’t afford to educate all the children in the UK?? Perhaps things need to change to fix that then. Re-balancing wealth will require sacrifices by the few for the benefit of all, who would argue against such a policy?

Don’t forget the wealthy will be saving a fortune in fees so will no doubt be paying/donating/fundraising into kiddies new state school and still be considerably better off. Will also be able to sleep well knowing they are helping the whole of society not just their own child climb the ladder quicker than others.

650b without question, 29ers are quick but dull the trail so unless you are living in the Lakes/Highlands/Alps and rock crawling steer clear of 29ers and big tyres
I wouldn’t go big on the tyres either, 650b with 130-150 travel and 2.4 max tyre. Modernish geo that fits you rather than trendsetting numbers.
Thank me after your first ride :o)

So many small improvements have created mega machines.
Indexed multi shifts up and down
    Remote Droppers
Shift away from 1 wheel size
    Suspension
    Disc Brakes
    tubeless
    Bikebuilders CHOICE
    Trail centres
    Carbon

When you think of all the changes over the last 30 years I don’t think there’s ever been a big shift, everything is just a small improvement from what there was.

I think you have that the wrong way round :o)
Yes the minor improvements most definitely justify the minor costs. What sort of genuine costs are you talking about over what sort of time frame?
The industry needs to survive off minor changes not the big leaps forward. That’s the model and always has been, how do you pay wages while working on project 3000?
Incremental small improvements at a reasonable cost is what we have and is working very well on the bikes I ride, well, apart from internal rear brake routing, absolute madness that one :o)

    @squirrelking
Need? Not sure that I could justify need but why not change the wheel size? Why not have an ever so slightly bigger wheel adding some extra stability without dulling the ride significantly \29ers i’m looking at youse\?

Minor change gives minor improvement, just how it should be. The industry makes enough money to survive, people keep jobs and bikes get betterer.

The revive is the best dropper I’ve used, the action is so light and smooth.
I would buy the one up or brand x :o) definitely not as good but good enough

Kryton, I don’t know what training onset fatigue is or consists of but is the negative vibe because you feel you should be able to fight natural instincts? Perhaps you have a naturally high drive to improve but feel you should be able conform to be able to bimble about and chat. Why not find a different hobby to chat and relax and embrace cycling as your natural drive quota. Peer pressure works both ways.

I don’t understand the hate for 27.5 at all. 26ers are awesome and 27.5 is almost identical. why would anyone want it to be significantly different :o)

Small changes have led to very awesomes bikes yah. Apart from internal rear brake routing though :o)

OP, I get where you’re coming from.
It gets complicated the more you analeyes.
Is it your inferiority complex, their superiority complex, natural instincts, marketing or just different people enjoy different things. Maybe a combination of all of those.

Learning is a part of human nature so pushing yourself to be better, ride further or compete against other humans feels natural to some.

On a close to home note- It’s kept the weirdo’s busy in the ref thread :o)
    Political reform across Europe
Great Britain is becoming teeny tiny Britain

Internal rear brake routing is just soooooooo pointless
Short seat tubes on XL frames. noooooooo, that’s just a new size for small people

27.5 is the best wheelsize we have currently unless you are the size of a child or ride around screaming Stravaaaaa :o)

The gravity guerrilla carbons look interesting, hadn’t seen those before, thanks.
I’m surprised Nicolai have done that with the lower shock mount and hose.

Tom, I’ve swapped brakes between frames half a dozen times in the last 6 weeks for a variety of reasons. it doesn’t need to be a pain in the backside for you just because I find it a completely pointless faff with zero gain. Weezalldifrent brother :o)

I think you are being very complacent there Tjagain, BJ has way more public appeal than you suggest.
If people believe there was no way to leave the EU because of ‘outside reasons’ then there is no way The Brexit party will be able to say ‘we could have left if we had control’. BJ will tub thump with the best-worst of them but I believe he has more appeal to the general public than any other party leader, with the backing of Tory spin on top which means extra Tory votes
All onions of course so we shall see.

A GE might be exactly what BJ or his string pullers want though. He has wide appeal bizarrely and I imagine that is why he is where he is. Be afraid of a GE if you don’t like blue.

If the global economy stagnates the investment in developing countries will diminish. China is one of the biggest investors in Africa and it wouldn’t happen without mass consumerism
You need to buy more stuff, shirley putting more pressure on better production methods would have a bigger impact globally than reduction of a few bike parts individually.
Even if everyone in the UK stopped buying so much tat the knock on effect in other parts of the world would counter act that marginal gain.
If we buy more tat {with better enviro credentials} then the developing world will be able to join us for the ride :o)

Wait, you are remorseful because you think you ‘might’ have over bid by between 1 and 2%
I think it will all be okay in the end. Forget about it.

Buying lot’s of shiny bike parts from all over the world will help to save the planet.
It helps the global economy, which will help decrease global poverty, which will increase education which will slow the population growth. Phew, everyone wins!

I don’t know what the big manufacturers are planning.
If I had to choose one bike to buy tomorrow it would be 650b regardless. Buy what you fancy, it will all be fine.

‘I get it – startling walkers is not cool. I shouldn’t have to state that I don’t aim to frighten or panic walkers and do my utmost to treat other trail users with respect and not endanger them in any way.’

But as a paid guide on shared trails that is what you did in this instance, why can’t you just reflect on that and ease up a touch more next time? No harm done and we all live and learn sort of thing.

The bikeyoke part was for previous versions of stumpy, as others have said for the 2019 version you can just buy the linkage from Specialized, it’s a 50pound part, you then need a new shock to fit the 210 x 50 {if 29er} dimensions. you can also use a 210 x 52.5 or 210 x 55 for mooooore travel

Grab a coil shock for the Stumpjumper version you will then have 2 very different set ups

Yep, off days are common here.
Try having a few back up plans, if the lethargy doesn’t clear continue on a much slower wild trail explore, if that doesn’t fix it try clearing some trail or going to some drops or jumps.
If none of those lift my spirits, it’s normally a sign I’m worn out so I might have a few days off.

I think we could substitute and adapt most of our current meals, I would like to find some interesting ‘simple vegan raw healthy’ combinations that might help us change the way we eat rather than just what we eat if that makes sense. Simple optimum health type of meals that require little thought and effort

    Thanks all.

Yep I can understand your point but I think the advice given is what I was looking for.
The more I think about it the more I like the vague ‘improve your riding’ training riding, training and riding are the same thing, much like food and dieting. There are extremes at both ends of the scale but most people would benefit from minor changes that are based on science. No need for specifics or goals just a journey of informed choices.
I don’t want a fad diet or a 6 week mtb training plan but I would like to use the scientific knowledge and data to optimise my ride time over the rest of my riding days.

Thanks for the link to the other thread and all the tips.
okay, I worded the title badly, I didn’t mean it to sound like a 1 day challenge.

We have a few veggie vegan recipes but really need more, I would like to go down the superfood healthy raw vegan route but the family need more variety than me. I wanted to see some meal plans from those that already do it. sorry for confusion.

Thanks. We have no ‘must see or do’s’
Definitely riding but happy to ride all sorts of trail so again nothing I have to be close to as there’s always something. Quirky small towns with a bit of a ‘vibe’ would be nice, it will be autumn-winter so not expecting too much.

Cheers @thebrick, those locations will be looked at.

Does anyone do anything specific when not riding?

    @trumpton
. the 25 year giving up comment was in jest. I will be well past my use by date by then.
