Oi mamadirt, it's not retro! It's just lasted well! 😀
Hasn't done a lot in the last few years (kids and other bikes), but recently I changed it back to more or less as you see here and have started doing a bit more DH at a local track.
It did do a stint with a double ring up front but it's just to heavy and bouncy to take anywhere except downwards really.

As above, but have done it on a DH bike. IIRC I have a rocket shifter.
Ran a Grip shit and Dura Ace rear 😯
Now same grip shift and rapid rise LX shifter, I use ODI lock-ons as they have a short version for the shifter side.

For downhill it's ace, I can keep a death grip on the bars, and with the rapid rise as I stand up (and rotate wrist forwards) I can slide into a lower gear, as I launch or get off the back going into a faster section I can pull into a higher gear.

But, elegant it is not, the grip is grubby and the little indicator window doobry doesn't work any more (bike is ancient mind).

Can sort of see it here:

Can you go diagonal through it, so that you're not hitting the (and subsequently your) lip of the coping stone straight on?
That would potentially give you a break before you launch off the four foot drop (to concrete I might add).
Personally, path sounds better to me, but then I don't have hero status as a rider. 😆

A 'risky' manoeuvre at the start of every ride – no thanks!

Bighendo, our youngest had nearly a year ago (she was two last week), we had her tested at docs and that's what they came back with. Anyway, thanks to local swimming pool we think (it was closed around the same time, so either we infected it 😯 or it infected us 👿 )
I think I had the same thing, as was crook for a week. Could hardly stand by the end of the second weekend with it, but obviously did recover…
Now I have recurring bouts of it as does bub that's still in a nappy 😡
    Australia is great.

Type cast but think along the lines of folks here and how they might want to avoid spending a fortune 'fixing' something, more likely to find a cheap alternative.

What it means here is that rather than fork out a few quid on proper tubeless setup we'd rather spend a fortune in cash and time trying to get something to work that wasn't designed to.

    Better still:

    Check the rims…

Not anywhere in the same league, but have done Aston hill's courses at reasonable race speed on on 03 Hekler with 130mm travel, comparable I think to the Orange five.
I wound the seat right down, put on some 2.35's (considered wide then) and let off some preload on the spring (I have a coil rear) and it was fine.
I've also got a DH bike (mate was trying out the day) and compared to that the biggest difference is that the Heckler was very light, the weight was in the wheels.
Should add that I have a tough build spec on the Heckler (hence being it being alive and well now).

I'd say go for it, and assuming you're not spending days there you'll ride it as you see it and within you and your bike's ability.

    Lucky bugger. 🙂

    I managed to lose 2 stone in 2 months…
Spin class on a Tuesday (and don't spare the horses).
Swim for at least an hour on Thursday – late swim and don't stop…
Ride a 4-6 hour ride on the weekend.
Cut out bread (went to pita breads for lunch), cut down on pasta.
Found something other than chocolate to eat at my desk.
That was pretty much it, come summer I started riding out for a sprint hour long ride instead of spin during the week.

    Weight fell off me. 😀
And I gained a shed load of fitness as a result.

Now…long commute, boring job, late nights, two kids, two more stone… 🙄

Interesting tyre choice on a classic there!?
I wonder if it's being used for some classic trials driving or similar?
Would love to know the story behind that…

I'm surprised you (lot) wear a ring whilst riding a bike.
Firstly I found they (I had two) rubbed on the grips somewhat, giving me blisters. But more to the point, any metal around my finger isn't going to be a good thing in the event of a crash, either as a ripping finger off event or just bend and squash.
Finally, I wouldn't want to lose one on a long ride.
If you must have it with you bung it on a lanyard around your neck.

Don't play the game of seeing which egg explodes last when you put some in the microwave..
Or more specifically, don't be in the blast zone when your numpty friend opens the door.

Had a lovely Jamaican Lady try to boil eggs in the microwave at one job I had. To her credit she got them both out before they exploded. The screams and mess were comparable in their intensity. Thanks for the memory.

Obviously you don't want to piss your sister off too much (pardon the pun).

Just advertise his car (using his mobile number obviously) on autotrader or similar and give it a ridiculous price. His phone should keep him busy for a while and you can have a chuckle with no harm done.

Yeah, I get the guilts too sometimes. Tis worse when she goes back (a couple of days a week).
Way I see it I'm the provider and as such it's up to me to bring in the cash to allow us to get a cleaner etc… Seems to help me reconcile walking out of a morning when the cherubs have decided to be 'not nice'.

    I wouldn't lest I get checked into – and then it's all over…

Guy where I used to work 'updated' his cv through several years at the same company. Idiot then went for an internal job and it was pointed out that his current cv didn't match his original (think cisco certified etc, big changes for his role), rather lamely he pretended that he'd accidentally copied details from his brother's cv. He left.

As a manager if I had someone falsifying their cv I'd expect them to leave as soon as I found out.

Orcas are cool – saw them in the Antarctic.

If we're talking about riding, and local riding at that:
    * Brown Snake (just under 2m) – last ride!
    * Monitor lizards.
    * Turtles
    * Echidna – think rare(ish) hedgehog thing.
    * Ants, bloomin millions of ants – i.e. don't get a flat, stop, then look down…

I've recently put some panaracer tyres on bike that I purchased in 2003, rode for a few years and then took off and hung up in the garage.
Plenty of tread left on them, and they're fine in terms of age.
In fact, most if not all of my tyres are 5+ years old – I've made do since moving to Aus and having two kids.
Actually, I make do with a lot of old bike kit – and it works very well indeed in the main.
Prefer to spend my pennies on my kids.

As Obi_Twa said, it'll be feeding all sorts.
By now it'll have a whole lot of bacteria at work – I can't see it staying in good nick in the long run.
What's more, something killed it, wouldn't want that floating about my house thanks.
You'll need to get your meat wagon bike to the scene quicker than that…

Correct me if I'm wrong but the leverage on those cranks is exactly the same as if you had a straight bar to the center. Given that you're pushing around an axle (the hub) it doesn't matter what shape your leaver takes.
Basically you draw a triangle from axle to pedal and the long side is your lever (the bit they've navigated around).
So, as far as I can tell that's just more weight and utterly useless?
    Physics boffins please?

Got something similar from not washing my bike gloves and the sweat got a bit minging.
Anyway, check with doc as quite possibly fungal.

Otherwise, I've always found that oatmeal based moisturisers are best, the others seem to block pores and make it worse.

    You've just set a precedent.
What's more, typical action is to go mooching around a property and when caught say you're picking some rubbish up, or looking for a dog, or wrong house etc. They were casing your joint and now they know you've got a bike and an indifferent neighbour.
At the least I'd be popping round with some cheap offering and saying thank you and please keep an eye out.

I've bought bikes from LL Cheltenham, and they were fine. No matey stuff, but that's fine by me.
Bike has been rock solid ever since.
Even rebuilt a DH wheel pronto some time ago – also stayed true.
    Don't expect uber-discount and they're fine as a shop.

There's a chap here at work who's a PC gamer. He's playing hardcore and rates the guidance tracer gun – he'll take a shot with that then folks with the carl gustavs can shot straight up and the warhead is guided in. I've tried that a few times in PS3 sessions but no one seems too into it. Perhaps a differing style of gaming I think.
