Yes at halfords it is selling for £479.99 but with the Halford’s 20% off it is £389.

Don’t push the wife too far or you’ll be living in it….

Err. Not sure if this is too good to be true but i appear to have just bought a 4 bike one RRP on asgard website £450 for £389 from Halfords using this code B13BP20 (20% off).

Sale has gone through, thanks for the Halfords suggestion. 😀

Quick update for reference for people with interupted down tubes/ small people.

So after all the faff I bought a KS dropzone from Hibike. (they sent me a supernatural (same post, just no layback) and i stupidly didn’t send it back). After two failures on the post, 5 months back with the manufacturers and a total of 3 rides where it worked I have claimed the money back through my credit card. Hibike are a waste of time. I then bought another one out of desperation, failed after 2 rides, went back, refunded (thanks bike24 for a good service).

So then, it came to me. I bought a reverb 30.9 and shimmed it to 31.6. Yes perhaps this is dangerous and I’ll die but so far it has been great and I’m really please with it.

    So conclusions:
KS dropzones and supernaturals are shite. Don’t buy them. Their quality control is appalling.
Hibike and it’s relationship with KS is dubious, don’t go there.
Reverbs are fab, i’m sure someone will come along and say what i’ve done is wrong, I guess the thompson 27.2 could be shimmed too.
I’d seriously consider avoid frames that aren’t reverb compatible in the future.

Who are these people mincing the rivelin valley?

Can i come? Sounds just right for me. 🙂

munrobiker you are welcome to mince with us. I’m 30 and the bf is 29. Or is that too old for you? We live at Malin bridge.

The whole thing is one big design flaw.

Watch out if you turn it back to front, if you have it with any layback bits of the clamp at the rails stick out and tear big holes in your shorts. Prevented with some gaffa tape. I’ve run it up from a loop created by a zip tie and gaffa from below the post. All looks pretty rubbish but does finally work.

Mine started doing what you described after three rides and eventually seized up completely so it may be back to KS for you. Mine has spent longer in the factory than on my bike.

Well, as the other half was route choosing we ended up in bog and some more bog. But it was great and we’ll be back soon to try out all the other suggestions.

Whoops, sorry for causing a stir. To make up for my comments I have done a mini literature review for you.

This website describes first seizures well and talks about what could be the cause, explains investigations including other causes of collapses that will be considered.

    http://www.patient.co.uk/doctor/First-Seizure.htm

The epilepsy society website talks about “epilepsy”. “Epilepsy” is usually defined as having had more than one fit rather than just a single seizure. This is because single seizures are common and not all people (particularly those with normal scans) go on to have a second. So some of the information is not relevant after just one seizure. But it has info about driving, sport, first aid, medication and avoiding seizures, what you can do etc. and a phone number 9-4pm 01494 601 400.

I’m really pleased you got your investigations and saw a specialist quickly. They remain best placed to give you individual advice regarding diagnosis and your chances of having further seizures. This will help you decide what to do about biking. Your GP (when they get all the details) will be able to advise if you want a quick answer.

But as everyone on here says, don’t panic! This is a common thing to happen and you appear to have taken in much more information that most people do the first time they see a doctor! 🙂

Practical advice: are you in the UK? If so: you get a free bus pass if you can’t drive (not really much of a replacement, but hey, you may as well use it). You should request your license back from the DVLA in 3 months. Sometimes for a single seizure they let you drive again after 6 months and it takes 3 months for them to get it sorted.

Please get your advice from people who know what they are talking about. Epilepsy society, doctors, nurses and patient groups. You appear to have some knowledge already that is reasonable and sounds likely to be accurate.

Don’t get diagnostic advice from this website, get it from a doctor. Some of the comments on here are inaccurate and potentially dangerous.

I don’t often post on here but as a neurologist I think I have some authority.

When you look: Dropzone = 2cm layback. Supernatural = no layback
They never tell you these things!

Yes: 7.5cm drop, then collar and the rest in the frame. £125 on hibike. Is that enough drop for her?

Got a KS supernatural. Definately didn’t need more than 75mm of drop. Only downside is it has got gunked up after only 3 (albeit peak grit and mud) rides so needs to be kept clean.

Buy as many pairs of gloves as you can, nothing worse than rummaging around just as you are about to leave the house. I’d recommend a whole change of clothes at work, i have had to use it twice in the last few years.

A plastic box can keep your shower stuff from dripping on the floor at work and can also store really stinky clothes.

Avoid school traffic, parents are crazy . I’ve nearly been knocked off three times within 100m from my home this week.

Last but most importantly: dresses crease less than shirts, so go out an buy that little black number you’ve always dreamed of 🙂

Thought i’d update you on my progress and to help other small people with silly frames. Bought a 300mm KS supernatural as recommended by you guys. Fitted it last night. Really pleased with how it fits and looks. Just need to go out and ride it like i stole it! Thanks for the helpful tips. 😀

i hadn’t adjusted it at all since buying it. i suppose i need to see whether it will limit adjustments in the future. i get back pain going up hill and had been thinking about playing about with it. I don’t have the bike here but i have a dropbox pic of it it actually looks like it is already (with 20mm layback) at the back of the rails (ie. as far forward as possible)

Humm, just want to get it out the box and play!

Chinley, Hayfield, Kinder, Jacob’s ladder, edale, hollin’s cross, mam tor, cave dale, shatton moor, hathersage, stanage plantation, stanage pole, wyming brook, the pootle round the bridleways in rivelin, or go from the pole down via ringinglow through endcliffe park.

Had a great run, thanks for the tips. FYI route 1 in the pdf you linked to is lovely but the area where you start is a little less lovely. As i was getting out the car a guy staggered out a house hurling expletives. Wouldn’t recommend leaving things in your car etc. Once you escape the town though it was fab!

The store and trek have been very helpful and whilst i’m kind of back to square one at least we’ve explored every avenue. Don’t worry all those who said i’d die if i rode it with a short post, this will somehow have to be resolved, though without a dropper post it will mean i can’t drop the saddle much.

They have concluded i have 158mm clamp to weld so i think i’ll order a KS and hope for the best. They suggested a 27.2 hilo and a shim but I’d like to keep things as simple as possible.

I like the idea of building up my pedals, maybe i could ride in platforms: groovy! 😆

Have been looking into the KS. It’s only £125 from hibike. It’s currently my number two choice after the reverb. I agree that 75mm drop would probably be enough given my height.

Thanks for the offer, and the help, i’m a way away from you in the grim north.

In defence of the shop they did warn before i bought the bike that it might be too big for me so i took a risk buying it.

Called Dave at trek who was really helpful. Suggested i take the bike back to the shop and they’d have a look at it. He thought the minimum insertion distance was 140ishmm for the 15.5inch frame which is much more than what i’m putting in. He also said this problem had been an issue.

Needless to say i shall be solely riding my hardtail with a whole seat post until this gets fixed. 😀

Off for a run but will look at answering the other questions.

    Using SPDs
I think the seat seems quite narrow compared to my hardtail.

Are the cranks measured from pivot to pivot? If so, think they are 170mm.

Was using an ikea tape measure and now found my real one so will check all my measurements are correct.

Have taken some lovely pictures and annotated them. Note the new spoky-dokies. I don’t have a flickr account so i’ve put them in a dropbox. Hope it’s clear. I don’t hold out much hope of any solution other than taking up potholing.

Some beta blockers are probably better than others. You have areas that respond to beta blockers in various places round the body. Some are more selective for your heart and may have less side effects in other places. E.g. bisoprolol is reported to be more “cardio-selective” than say, atenolol but i think for an individual they may not notice any difference. If beta blockers are really affecting your exercise it may be worth mentioning it to your doctor/cardiologist as often doctors don’t automatically think their patients want to seriously exercise, and if they consider this, the may offer a different regime.

On the other hand, if, on coming off warfarin you’ve celebrated by drinking copious amounts of alcohol and other warfarin-related banned substances this may be while you feel better 😀

i was just googling your suggestion. thanks.

Thanks for all your advice. Really helpful and i imagine i wont be the first person to having this problem.

The LBS were really helpful today, and agreed that the problem is (at least in part) due to the frame build itself rather than any imperfection inside the frame, so i imagine it is similar on Trek Fuels too. Will give trek a call to see if anyone else has had this problem yet. Fortunately i think i just have enough post in the frame given my weight. I accept some compromise is needed but on a bike that price it does seem a shame, it’s not as if i’m riding to the shops and back.

LBS suggested an X-fusion 27.5 dropper post and shim it, which is possible as there is 15cm between the top of the post and the part of the frame that is narrow. This rules out a reverb anyway so i’ll have to consign myself to a different post.

Ho hum, back to the drawing board, anyway, i don’t think it is exactly the limiting factor in my riding!

    Thanks for the advice.

Seat clamp to rails: 15 cm
Seat clamp top to first bit of trouble inside the tube 14cm.

Will go in tomorrow and see what they say, it’s great to have a bit of stw knowledge before you go in, am really grateful.

Hum, think i have to go through the bike shop. Why didn’t i buy it from a good bike shop?

    evh22

    Thanks. That’s what i thought.

Unfortunately when i got the bike i wasn’t as knowledgeable as i am now, and i think being a laydee doesn’t help. I still feel pretty stupid when i go in there as they’ve done some more shoddy work since then. Now i do things myself or take it to a real bike shop.

What’s the minimum amount of Joplin that needs to go into the frame? Surely it must be more than 6 inches?

I think I’ll get in contact with Trek, i’m worried riding about with such a small amount of post in the frame will damage it.

    evh22

I ride in the Peak district. A Joplin would last about 5 minutes in this wicked (god’s own) mud. But good idea.

    evh22

Thanks, was thinking about a shim, but would only be able to go above the defect, not sure how long they are. Good idea about trying a narrower seat post, will be good to get an idea how narrow things are down there.

The discrepancy between the 6inches and 2inches is because i put the seat up and down during riding: not much seat post in when i’m on the road, but put it right down to go downhill.

I agree Rusty Mac I’m not keen on having it reamed, am also not keen on riding around with only 2 inches of seat post it!

I think Houndkirk moor has had more work done on it than most of sheffield.

Coming home down those hills does get me psyched up for a ride though, until i come round the last corner and nearly slide off the road

That bridge will be fine Nick, it was built in the age before economy so will be built to last. Don’t take my word for it though, i don’t want you falling in the river on the way home from the pub, I hear that’s not such a pleasant experience 🙂
