    Update from James:

Got another 150m or so done, shifted some big rocks, drains built, lines blocked, put up signs mark 2 and even did some seeding.

There are some pics up on PDMTB facebook. Watch out for signs up there and get in touch to be a part of it.

Mike Skinner from the Streets would suggest having a look for that thousand pounds that got stuck in the telly last week causing it to break. Best not to assault the TV repair man in a fit of drug and alcohol induced psychosis though…

I’m same height and find my 14 inch Trek Lush xs still hard to get on (lowest standover i could find) as with the short reach required there isn’t much room to stand over. A dropper post is a must to get the seat low and when she feels steady she can put it up. Would she be able to manage a dropper post with her left hand? Happy to let her try some of my short person solutions.

However, if you want to go new, how about trying the new childrens’ trek fuel: 26 inch wheels, 100mm travel (Was reviewed on this site recently)? Trek fuel jr Probably a bit smaller. TBH if she finds this too big then I’d go for 24 inch wheels. Commencal did a fs 24″ downhill bike, they currently do a 20″ one.

They haven’t dumped many small rocks on it yet. There’s plenty of evidence of spill out from Chapel gate because they haven’t dealt with drainage adequately.

Crazylegs: that’s interesting and useful info. They had put mostly large rocks down and i think all small particles had already been washed out into the road last year. But no consideration for drainage means this could be a real hazard. Could it freeze up?

If anyone sees anything like this, take a quick pic and email it to Peak District MTB info@peakdistrictmtb.org for our hall of shame.

We have written to DCC recently complaining about the continued closure and are yet to hear back. We’re putting out a newsletter shortly: if you are a website member you’ll get an email.

This says he had his HGV license for 25 years. The 1999 crash comment about suggested that driver had license for 4 months. So that would point to it not being him.

Skyliner: at 5ft he should be fine on a 13 or 14″ bike. Probably won’t need very short cranks so I wouldn’t buy specially. 165mm would be ok and he sounds like he’s gonna grow tall (and probably soon!) and need a bigger bike in a year!

You need to bleed the damper – £20 quid for the kit, instructions all over the net.

It is not as complicated as it looks.

Surely depends on their height? I’m 4ft9 and 14″ bike is just small enough. Shorter cranks, not too big tyres give you a couple of cm. however riding is bike that is too big sucks. If you live anywhere near Sheffield I have one in my shed you could try.

If it’s a longer stay I can recommend the Patterdale Hotel. Proper old granny territory but they let you keep bikes in the secure laundry, there’s a pub onsite and they bring you a big 3 course meal and breakfast. All for a total of about £130 per person for Sunday to Friday. The dinner comes real quick which is good when you are starving and you don’t have to put your shoes on to go down to dinner. Old the old people will look at you and think you are amazingly adventurous.

They have a website and Facebook which seems genuine. I wonder whether they eBay site is not linked to that business. It isn’t selling the same type of items. Also the photos on their website have their logo in the background rather than using yours.

You can do a google image search on the other bikes. I found one, posted the same photo in 2009 on moredirt and another on gumtree from 2012. Previously this ebayer sold lots of second hand. Not sold anything in the last month. Dodgy!

A trek lush. New ones come with droppers so would hopefully fit one but only 120mm travel. What about a 15.5 inch remedy? Might even be too small for you. Mate has YT Capra but I think that also has seat post issues but he has short legs and long body

That link above is v helpful

If you look at the stats the integrated posts seem to be a bit shorter. The x fusion is quite long. I’d get a ks. If you look back you’ll find a thread I started with some ideas for droppers. I have ended up with a lev and a reverb. I’m much shorter than you so I’d think you’d have no problem

    evh22

How tall are you??? all these stupid interrupted frames are rubbish for droppers, what bike do you have. You’ll find even pictures of the women’s specific small bikes have a dropper stuck way up far to high out of the frame. Don’t believe the geometry either as I found the same bike in aluminium and carbon had different seat tube lengths.

The LEV is 335mm and a 176mm max insert. I found some welding within the frame stopped a post going in so bought a narrower post and shimmed it (there’s a thread i started somewhere with the details when i first had the problem). Have a look at what posts women’s bikes come with: the new trek lush comes with this: KS eThirty Integra so might be short.

I don’t think I’d buy a bike that wasn’t properly dropper compatible again. Definitely get one with the option to go integrated as i think this shortens the post.

    evh22

Oh, the integrated posts might be shorter.

No, I take it back: the KS supernatural is shorter with a 75mm drop but it’s mechanism sucks.

    evh22

The LEV is the shortest infinite position post that I’ve found. What’s the problem? Why do you need a short post? Is it the maximum insert? You also want to look at the height of the collar and the clamp.

Only going on what I was advised by the Police officer who interviewed me, he said if I had ANY injuries at all to get them checked to make sure it was nothing serious (see point 1 about them being worse later) but also so that they have a record of examination on file to request if needs be.

And this is why the NHS is in the s**t. Police officers talk a load of nonsense. You should use your own judgement to decide whether to see a doctor. Surely that is possible??? If you do go, be straight up at the start about what you want and can cut through the crap and focus on how to get you better.

There are already insurance approved assessment appointments. If the insurance company wants a medical assessment they will arrange for you to go see a doctor. Yes it will cost more money but that’s the game you play if you want to play medical compensation.

TBH it doesn’t sound like the OP was asking about medical claims so I don’t think this is the point of the thread.

    EDIT: sorry about the quotes.

“2. They will be able to provide notes if asked which will support any investigation by the police or insurance. If you don’t get checked and it isn’t logged it can harm the investigation if you are making claims about injury that can’t be supported”

They may wish to charge you for this, it’s not NHS work. Obviously if you have had an accident and are injured and require medical treatment that’s different but if you are just feeling a bit achey you wouldn’t normally go see your GP would you? I’m not entirely convinced that’s what the NHS is for. When I was in an accident they just sent me a form to fill in to say what injuries I had and how it affected me.

Here’s the email address if you fancy suggesting it.
    alpkit@alpkit.com

Have fun. Take some warm clothes.

Can suggest a nice route? Along Monsal trail to Miller’s Dale, get off the railway at hte train station, go under the bridge, up the hill and join a green lane which heads to Brushfields. Down the fun and slippy descent to rejoin the Monsal trail. Then go back along it and exit where you joined it at thornbridge. Go through Gt Longstone, head to Hassop, take the bridleway south of hassop, to pilsey. Either take the scenic route through Edensor and up the green lane, or skip this (the green lane climb isn’t great) and go directly to the appropriately names Ballcross farm, down the muddly bridleway to Bakewell then rejoin the monsal trail back to the start. You can extend it by exploring Chatsworth or even Youlgreave if you have time.

It’s a figure of 8 so if you are pushed for time you could do a quick loop each day. It’s not that technical and some reasonable road-ish sections but nice scenery and fun offroad bits.

Also bits north of Great Longstone are fun, up to Eyam, but lots of quarry tracks.

More riding sounds like a good idea. Am thinking mini tweedlove with low key guided ride outs with locals. Could you drop alpkit a line with a suggestion? A bit too late for this year but maybe next year? It’s a good location to ride from your tent doorstep.

    Hey there,

Not meaning to cause trouble but…. (us two are trek lush buddies so I think I can say this).

What’s wrong with your Trek? You seem to enjoy riding it, and from what I recall, for the sort of riding you do it seems perfect. Are you wanting a new bike just because n+1 feeling?

Do you want longer travel? If so, you’ll have to accept extra weight and all that comes with it but do you really need it?

I have limited experience as I have limited choices but feel that the Trek Lush is a great versatile bike. I bought a carbon lush second hand and it is hugely better for me than the Lush S. I think this is partly better suspension but I do feel the frame is stiffer, more fun and a little lighter (I think the weight saving is similar to the weight gained with larger tyres). This bike has seen me through MTBO racing, a hike-a-bike adventure in the Alps and Scotland and only really met it’s match at the Ard Rock Enduro though I think for the latter I just needed to adjust the suspension.

The only downside of the Trek Lush carbon IMHO is that it is too damn good at everything to justify another bike. It’s light enough to race, and for light mincers like me big enough to be comfortable on big adventures.

We should look out for each other again for a Lush meet-up. This year in the Alps I got to ride with another trek lush SL lady. She had an ace time too 🙂

My understanding is this group has been set up by volunteers who are already involved in trail advocacy at a local level including reps from all areas of England and Wales. From what I’ve heard they are trying to get representatives from each area to share their experience, expertise and join forces for one united voice for bikers.

So far, volunteers have been travelling to long meetings at their expense with no funding as yet so I can see why they haven’t got a website etc. set up. These things take time and a huge amount of committment from people who are already busy with work, family, riding, local advocacy. However despite all this, momentum is growning, national bodies are courting interest and headway is being made.

They are gathering up all the details of reps for the regions so you can get involved locally, but you can sign up to Ride Sheffield and Peak District MTB through their websites as they represent riders who ride in the area, not just those who live there.

Finally, if you want to get involved: go and comment on the Wales consultation. They haven’t exactly made it easy to answer but you can email them directly. The PDF document on their website isn’t complete in Safari but works in Firefox.

Just come back from Ben Jones MTB Adventures Tour de Mont Blanc. It was fantastic. Not only are the trails absolutely amazing but the whole trip felt like a real holiday with really lovely hotels, excellent food and guides. Despite tough riding (and plenty of hike-a-bike) I felt more relaxed than I ever have on a biking holiday and really felt like I had a great adventure.

I’ve been on plenty of guided holidays but I’d say this was the best biking holiday ever, perhaps joint with Basque MTB: both of whom really have got the idea of biking on a holiday nailed.

I’m loving following this and am feeling for Jenny now who must have been searching for a safe place to cross the river for such a long time. I’m in awe of these guys (and boy and ladies).

We’re so inspired that we’re looking at some mini bike packing. Dotwatcher: I saw mini pips is using a half bag. Do you know where you can get one from and how long are they? I’m probably a similar height and am limited to what I can carry. God knows how I’d cross a stream without some sort of biblical water-parting help.

Whoops. They aren’t “doing a rambler”, they are doing a ramble.

Queue wild images of a hoard of wheelchairs chasing after some old guy in red socks with pitchforks.
