Thanks Joe and m0rk! m0rk – is the cam follower change you mentioned a preventative maintenance item or a performance upgrade?

I live nearby and have ridden it a few times. Last time I was kicked out by the ranger (bit bizarre given my mate and I had parked in front of his hut with bikes on roof and I had asked him for change for parking meter with all my cycling garb on) It was meant to open in Mid-April but that was only the cafe. The course itself is a bizarre – no flow, lots of loose surface, some nasty black features (mate of mine knocked himself unconscious last week over there) interspersed with nothingness. I’ve waiting 3 years for this. Really. Disappointed. Better to ride in Danbury woods.

Same happened with my CamelBak bladder :-( I used some sterilisation tablets (same stuff you use for baby bottles) to clean it out. Quick and cheap.

I had the same dilemma on a C2W scheme and opted for the GT Grade 105 – better groupset & better brakes offset the carbon frame for me.

If you can live with an ally frame how about GT Grade? GT Grade Tiagra 2015 I’ve been looking for sub £1k CX bikes that also work as a commuter/adventure bike and the 105 option is the best I’ve found

It gets a 5 star review on BikeRadar GT Grade Alloy 105 review but I’d like some real life feedback before I buy it

OP I may be looking for a Legacy estate when my company car goes back in June. What did you think of them? Anything to look out for?

hardupdad – good catch on the GT Grade 105 – I like the brakes and 105 groupset but for the same cash the Planet X offers a carbon frame – anyone ridden either of these?

chestrockwell – I had a On One Scandal v2 built up witha good spec and it was just boring to ride – I like a bit of pop in my bikes so apprehensive about another 29er. Has anyone ridden both bikes?

I had a Specialised FatBoy (the BMX not the latest fat bike) which had a long top tube and fitted me quite well and I’m 6’1″. No idea of the frame length but easy enough to look up.

I’ve tried Superstar foam grips (very good – nice and chunky & light & cheap), Superstar silicon grips (I couldn’t get on with them) and finally settled on KCNC foam grips (better shaped than the SS ones). I found the best way to mount the foam grips is use a little bit of massage lube as it’s water based and dries out in 24 hours. I do get strange looks from the missus taking the lube into the garage though!

    OnOne Scandal V2 29er

Built this OnOne Scandal 29er from parts. It was fast but really boring to ride. Sold it a couple of weeks ago and replaced it with a 26″ carbon hardtail (also built up from parts) – this one is way more fun to ride. SAB Carbon 26

OK thanks – so what would STW recommend as best front and rear tyre options for a 26″ doing mud and road work during the winter?

I’ve got this fitted to my 1 x 9 http://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/xcr-st-mount-chainguide.htm it was a right faff to get it to sit properly – wish I’d gone for the BB mount version
