Brand X Ascend, can be had for £90 new with 2 years warranty, if it dies after 2 years chuck it in the bin and buy another one

Ive replaced 2 Command posts and a Reverb with the Brand X post, the command posts were faulty and returned and refund issued, the Reverb needed a service which would cost £90 so i sold it for £50 and bought the Brand X to replace it

The remote lever is a bit shite but you can just use your old posts one (if its cable actuated)

Used to do 100 miles a week commuting to and from work, then another 100-150 miles during the evenings and weekends

Try to carry as much stuff for the working week on the Monday, things like clothes, food for the week etc…that way the rest of the week you have a nice light bag as you get more tired as the week goes on

Pace yourself especially if its a windy day, rather than fight against the wind tuck down and just take it easy, once the wind is behind you go for it to make up lost time

A good set of lights are important especially if your by the canal! they will help you see any obstacles before you hit them

Carry a couple of energy gels and a small drink for those hot days or days when your just not feeling great

Have you tried an e-bike for downhill use only?

Have rode my local downhill spot along with Windhill on my normal bike and my e-bike

E-bike handles just as well as the normal bike even with the extra weight

Even beat a good number of my Pb’s on Strava

I was skeptical that an e-bike could handle/ride as good as a normal bike but they do, so much so that my normal bike has just been sold

Off to Bike Park Wales on the e-bike this weekend so will see how it compares there to my old normal bike

There are already e-mopeds and e-dirt bikes out there

    https://eriderbikes.com/electric-motorbikes/

    https://www.ktm.com/e-ride/

Cant wait till a gearbox is built into the e-mtb’s motor but the bike still has to pedaled to give assist

Legislation is what differentiates a pedal assist e-mtb from a e-moped or non pedal assist e-mtb’s

So for pedal assist e-bikes they have to have no throttle, max speed of 15.5mph, max motor output of 250w

Cant see downhill bikes becoming fully electric, they will still need pedal assist purely because of where they are being used, plus once you lose the assist part insurance, license, tax etc… is needed  and then its basically a moped/motorbike

Love my e-mtb, great on downhill days or just riding the local trails

Been an mtb’er and a roadie for 20+ years and have done my fair share of suffering on climbs etc…

These days lack of time due to work and family means less riding but the e-mtb allows me to have as much fun as possible in that short time (riding is about fun for me not fitness)

    * OH lowered seat so that she can reach ground without leaning bike over means she now rides like a cockney

Ive fitted a £100 dropper post to my bike so when stationary with the seat lowered my feet are flat on the ground, once pedaling and the post is up im at the optimum height for efficient pedaling

    Mine loves his Thule seat

Nice and stable, easy to swap between mine and my wife’s bike via a spare bracket (£20) and it just mounts to the forks steer tube only

I love riding my E-mtb so much that my normal mtb was just collecting dust so Ive sold it

On my normal mtb i hated climbing hills, its just no fun! with the E-mtb the whole ride is smiles better!

Could give a **** about fitness or people calling me a cheat, im 41 relatively fit and healthy and don’t need an e-bike but wanted one as mtb’ing to me is just about having fun!

If i want to ride for fitness then i still have my road bike which i would never replace with an e-bike until i really needed to due to any health issues, still not a fan of hills on the road bike but i don’t mind them as its a smooth ride and treat them as a challenge

    For me personally its…

E-mtb for pure fun the whole ride

Road bike for fitness and some fun

Best bet it to remove the bearing and take it to your local bearing supplier (Google is your friend)

They will measure the bearing and will prob have one in stock or be able to order one

Ive been using bearing shops for replacements for 20+ years and they have always been cheaper and have better quality bearings

Ask for SKF or NSK bearings as these are high quality and are used in manufactuering

Doubt the insurance company would be interested

Recently happened to my work mate, his £2k mtb was stolen, informed the police and his insurance company and they paid out in a week, one week after the payout the bike was recovered through someone we know who knows people who knows dodgy people

My work mate being a stand up guy informs his insurance company and explains that he has spent the payout on a new bike and would they like him to return the stolen recovered bike to them

They said that they have no way of dealing with stolen recovered bikes and to just keep the bike and the payout! Jammy git

Its the basic/entry level Roval hub prob made by one of the big Taiwan hub manufactures like Novtech or Formula

Remove the bearing from the hub and on the bearing’s rubber seal you will see a code like  RS6802 for example (RS means Rubber Seal)

You can then search for this on Google or just take it to your local bearing supplier (Google is your friend again) and they will have them in stock most of the time

As said that A6 boot dosent look much bigger than my A4 boot

My bike is basically the e-bike version of the one in the boot and mine fits in exactly the same way and i can have the small side of the split seat up with the baby in his car seat

Although mine is a large 27.5 wheeled bike

    Had 27.2mm ks external eten-r and a brand x internal 27.2mm post

Both roughly the same price but the brand x is much better, smoother & comes with a paddle lever

The external ks eten-r has a short drop, feels un smooth as it nears full extension and makes a little noise

Unfortunately Brand x don’t make a external 27.2mm post so im stuck with the ks eten-r

    escrs

It looks like no one can match chain reaction at £350

Ill have to wait until their rear wheel build option comes back on the website

Just riding along no hope hubs

r2-bike.com coming in at nearly £600!!!

Cylcefast no online wheel build option

Ryanbuilds wheel no online wheel build option

Stif cycles as far as i can see don’t offer a wheel build option

Just had this reply from crc

As we are currently reconfiguring our ” CustomWheel Build Inventory ”  some Custom Build Options are currently unavailable.
As we continue to improve on this and see more stock arriving, then the Hope Custom Rear Wheel Build will become available online once more.</span>

Slightly annoying as they have all the parts i want in stock!

If i remember correctly (been a long time since i had easy joints) if you disconnect the joint you will see one side has the large connector and the other side has the smaller one with the olive and barb fitted

The olive and barb are the problem as they won fit through the frame’s internal routing system, you will have to snip them off to remove the cables from the frame

When i removed mine i just bought all new cables and got rid of the easy joint system

The easy joint system was designed to make fitting the new system easy with no mess, problem is when stripping them off the bike the olive is now attached to the hose that you need to pull back through the frame

Have a 2006 B7 A4 Avant, can easily get 2 full sussers in the back with front wheels off and back seats down

Even managed to get 3 bikes (3rd bike no wheels fitted) and 3 people in the car (rear passenger sitting the smaller side of the split seat)

    Sorry no pics though

Before you buy its worth looking on https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/  and seeing what/if the model you want has any known issues and things to look for when buying

@ barrykellett  when you get a set of Campag Bora one tubs for free :)

Personally i don’t really notice the difference between high tubs and the Rally’s and the Rally’s seem to puncture less and are cheap to replace so win win for me

    escrs
    Free Member

Ive had Conti sprinters, Vittoria Corsa G+ graphene, Tufo tubs

I prefer the Rally’s as when they do puncture they are cheap to replace, a throw away item like inner tubes

    I went through 3 Corsa G+ in 2 months in 2017, that’s when i switched to the Rally’s

To be honest with the state of the roads i ride on i don’t really notice much difference between high end tubs and the Rally’s

I pre treat my tubs with sealant as well as carrying a spare tub strapped to the bike, tub tape & a can of Vittoria pitstop

So if i do get a puncture and the sealant cant fix the hole i can fit my spare with the tub tape and then inflate it with the pitstop

Once home i take the punctured tub and throw it in the bin then strap a new spare tub to the bike and then order another one to replace the one Ive just strapped to the bike

I always run Vittoria Rally’s £12.99 each from Decathlon

Had two brand new ones and had to return both due to the amount of saddle wiggle

I know all droppers have this a little bit but Specialized say on their website and on the side of the box that they have eliminated saddle wiggle with their dual key way design

Yet both mine had wiggle straight out of the box that got worse with use, it really is false advertising and i was told they would remove this wording from the website, which they never did

Went Brand X in the end for £90, minimal saddle wiggle and its not got worse in over 300 miles of use

Also have a Reverb that’s done 1000 miles with one service so far, next time it needs a service it will be replaced with a Brand X!

Chain and chain ring are all ok (less than 300 miles, all ok on chain checker)

Drive train is always kept clean

Ive got a GX rear mech on my other bike, may have to swap them over and see if that cures it

Had one just over a year ago for one week, absolutely terrible!

Returned it and went back to my Edge 800

I hope they have sorted all the issues out by now

There will be air still in the system somewhere, tap the caliper, lever head and hose with an allen key when bleeding to force any trapped air bubbles upwards

Also as said above shave the bleed block down by 1-2mm and then once bled the lever will engage much sooner

Dont pump the lever, bleed upwards only, once your sure all the air is removed refit the lever’s grub screw then push more fluid into the caliper and lock off the bleed nipple

Done this on three sets of R785 levers with BH59 and BH90 hoses, all three bikes brakes felt great afterwards
