Have a look at r2 bike, newmen hubs, cx Ray, ally rims coming in at 1400g. Alternatively go for Duke or Newmen carbon rims and knock 150-200g off.

I’m liking the Dubwar love. @dorris5000, I managed to see them live at the Cavern in Exeter. They were awesome. Benji throwing Million dollar notes and a double bass, what’s not to love?

I remember fondly my teenage years, living life like it was an endless summer. The days of smashing rides on the quantocks, journeying to races at the weekends with mixes featuring:
    Pearl Jam
    Stone Temple Pilots
    RATM
    Green Day
    Bush
    The Offspring
    Nirvana
    Dubwar
    Placebo
I look through my play lists now and all feature the above, predominantly the same tracks I listened to then.
I guess the only slight stain would be the first Single I brought which was Right Said Fred

And there lies the problem. A brexit utopia was promised that was never remotely achievable, too many to pacify and no deal would be supported by the majority that voted leave. In my eyes, brexit was a vote for a new contract that a select few negotiated. How many people would sign acontract without knowing the contents?

Starmer seems convinced this statistical group is the key to No10. Problem is there are 3 types of lies; lies, damn lies and statistics. Currently I don’t even think it would matter, the tories seem destined to implode within 6 months.

Note: how do you reply to posts?

I’m tempted by the 200km. I rode the Kielder 100 a couple of times and enjoyed it.

Isn’t it sad that even now such questions are asked, likely only to people of colour. I remember how well Sadiq Khan batted away such a question asked by the BBC when visiting India/Pakistan:
BBC reporter: “does this feel like coming home.”
SK: “Nah, home is south London mate.”

My surname is Ernest, derived from Ernst. Great grandad moved from Germany to UK post WW1 and added the ‘e’ before WW2 to hide the German ancestry. I have never been asked where I’m from etc. and it would seem its a safe assumption its because I’m white.

@spot1978 – are you based just outside Paddington working on a certain large rail infrastructure project?

Un acceptable. A call to the Dean should be made immediately, your daughter will have their contact details and there should also be a ‘complaints’ process. Male staff should not be accessing Halls without a female member of staff. What time did the inspection take place? Inspections should only take place with notice.

I would also question their rights to forced entry to a locked and chained room. That would suggest someone was in and question whether they knocked on the door first.

From personal experience I cannot fault Mazda. I owned a 323 for about 6 years, covered 135k and it never missed a beat. Beyond the annual service I only replaced tyres and brakes (discs and pads). I now run a Mazda 2 (1.6 diesel) which returns ~70mpg. The 2 covers ~7k miles/year and my only wish were it be a little bigger I.e. a 3. Best advice, take a test drive.

I’m a project manager for network rail. I started this position 1 year before C-19. The first year I had no performance review (terrible line manager) and was listed as developing in role. We then went into pay freeze during lock down and a re-organisation. This year the Unions and NWR agreed a pay rise for my band of 4%, which I was happy with. And then I discovered that NWR has also increased the starting salary for Project Managers by 4%. So I am still on the absolute starting salary after 4 years experience and 4 years of receiving ‘exceeded’ performance reviews. That was a kick in the nuts.

Anything i say may already have been said:
What’s left to cut? The judiciary is striking and a huge backlog to the courts. They committed to a spend on security and the NHS. HS2 (the obvious) has already been reduced to a point which devalues the entire programme, not to mention the penalties that will be paid for cancelling contracts). NWR and TOCs are striking already, and trust me cuts have been made which are impacting the organisation already).
During the leadership election, Truss presented her plans. Sunak stated exactly what would happen and it is happening. How many tory members are doubting their choice?
Surely the housing market has stalled with mortgages pulled and confidence levels low.
Are the tax cuts eeally going to have an impact on the economy inside 2yr leading to the next scheduled election?
The brexit benefits to farming are talked about being removed and reverting back to the EU scheme (or sjmilar)
Immigration is on the increase ( a key hate for right wing tories)
They want to strip the remaining EU regs but will require a massive amount of work from the various departments that kwarzy et al want to reduce.
I could go on….how **** are they or is kwarzy really that clever that no one sees the miracle coming?

How long before sufficient letters of no confidence are submitted which will surely trigger aGE?

A few years back I was renting cars once per month; I took out private insurance to cover damage to lease cars which worked out significant orders of magnitude cheaper than the rental companies. It is very much worth considering if you will be renting frequently.

Argh, a starry eyed look into the distant past:
Did anyone have a set of those Tioga steel cranks? After the 3rd set broke at the weld I got a refund and put the XT’s back on.
How about the Hope mechanical disk brake: first generation disk brakes that worked until your forks snapped in half.

I read the first few posts and got bored. Here’s some words from my limited experience: the second hose I owned was built in the 1800s. The previous owners, contrary to what they said did **** all to maintain. We had massive condensation issues, this was fixed entirely once a nuair drimaster was installed. I cannot recommend this product highly enough. At the same time, check and if required sort the loft insulation. We then moved to installing double glazing (use a reputable local installer, not a snake oil national chajn). And simple draft excluders on doors – really simple, cheap and bloody effective

I don’t know too much about the ebike xc race, but from I can gathered (google is my friend) along with past winners/losers; are two enduro riders the best suited? I completely acknowledge that the top enduro riders are very fit. But are they best suited to xc ebike racing vs enduro ebike racing?

Find somewhere to hire a bike (sorry I can’t hell there). I can’t believe the tocks have changed since I was 21, bit they are rocky, can be steep and will likely still be amazing

I used to race a lot at the ‘don back in 2008-2011. There were a few crashes but nothing like what we started to see following 2012; not sure what triggered the change but people I know that kept racing there suggested it was down to testers or new racers that had fitness but no experience in riding in a group. The experience of riding in a group for me came from the club runs. The club runs I see out on the roads these days suggest discipline is lacking and I refuse to ride with them.

I loved crit racing. The best was Guildford Town Centre crit; just brutal!

Not so great really. I’m network rail and not sure what the future holds really. Pay rise, bonus, further voluntary redundancies or compulsory redundancies?

Newmens spin free. I’m now a massive fan of their kit. It really is great quality and I’m surprised they haven’t got a greater foot hold in the UK market.

I brought an FTX truggy for my daughters 6th birthday. She loved I then and now 8, still loves it. Though she keeps swiping my Assoc. The FTX was a great place to start, fast for their age, cheap to buy and replace. She has tried hard (unintentionally) to break it and failed. I’m really impressed. The best £70 spent in a while

    A few things to consider:
On the great western route usage is back to ~85% of pre covid levels
In the last 4 years Network Rail has been through reorganisation resulting in the loss of a significant number of employees and down sizing of the organisation
In the last 4 years recruitment freeze
In the last 4 years pay freeze
Subsequent to the reorganisation, voluntary severance scheme culled significant number of really good staff, they are both replaced and workload has fallen on the remaining
Throughout the pandemic trains ran, carrying carrying key workers. No furlough, just keep working. There was no recognition of this.
Threat of compulsory redundancies within the maintenance org, a group already under staffed and under funded.
I could go on. There are significant changes and improvements required to rail in the UK, but I’m really not surprised strike was voted.

Hmm, I kept wondering about the route and whether it would prove faster than the already fast PRL. is the jury still out on this?

Having used a Thule 3 bike rack to transport one adult and two kids bikes, having the additional space between the bikes will be useful. I would still say have pipe lagging to pad between contact points and do a practice pack to learn bike order/pedal/handlebar position. I normally rotated the handlebars 90 degrees which made things easier.

I learnt ‘road riding’ in Lancaster whilst at Uni there. The local club (Lune RCC) were great; it taught me about pacing, riding in a group, hand signals, and the ‘how to behave’. On a normal Sunday run the group would ride at the slowest riders pace for the first 20km and then split into A, B and sometimes a C group. If one dropped off your group you slowed to pick them up again on the assumption everyone has that off day, one day it would be your turn and you will appreciate being allowed to get back on. Its also worth bearing in mind we had a mix, ranging from a couple of 70yr olds to an 18yr old Ben Greenwood (Recycling/MG X Power days). A group ride is precisely that: ride in a group.

On moving to the south I find the standard shocking and now ride solo all the time. Ride groups are all over the road, no discipline, no appreciation for others on the road and it saddens me to say I can understand why other road users become frustrated.
