My Dad lives in Chicago and is close to 70. Though I speak to him more than once a week, I only see him once maybe twice a year. So if he lives to 90 I may only see him 20 more times….this makes me so sad. Though I am now planning long weekends and such in Chicago to get more time with him.

Other than that – they are both amazing. My Mum is like my best friend and my Dad is a inspiration, still hold a director position, works and plays hard despite his age!

I cannot remember the last time I argued with either – probably 20+ years

We are having 52cm wall units put in and higher than normal with 2 piece lifting doors rather than swing doors to give the feeling of space (London flat/tiny kitchen so cannot afford loosing the storage!)

But ditching them altogether is a great thing if you can afford the space!

The quality is no better (and in some cases much worse) than other equivalently priced PCs.

    – The hinge on my white Macbook has broken twice
    – the front palm rest and screen surround on this machine has also cracked numerous times (design fault which should have been recalled)
    – the chargers don’t have proper strain relief (to look cool) so the cables keep fraying
    – the GPU keeps going wrong on my dad’s new MBP resulting in garbled screen display
    – the touchpad keeps losing its click on my wifes MB
    – the caps lock light on my mum’s MB only works approx 50% of the time
    – the backlit keyboard works intermittently on my work MBP
    – charging light is intermittent on all our machines

And that’s just off the top of my head. Probably a bigger sample set than most since my family has used Apple stuff since the Classic (what a great machine that was!)

Why do ya’ll keep buying apples?

Basically the current Royal Mail & Parcel Force model is not making money – so this is a way for them to continue their service and cut costs rather than crazy hikes in price.

If you cannot stretch to a macbook I would get something on the dell outlet – bargains to be had

Remmeber with apple you can get educational discount (£729 for basic air) – or someone can get it for you. I even get it as a CIMA student which is bonkers

I broke mine about 2 years ago.

Get a good physio, get a wobble board, a goal and speak to your consultant and let him know you want to push yourself to recover rather than sit back and hope for the best.

You need things that push the full movement – which cycling doesn’t (I was able to cycle to work before I could walk without crutches – I strapped them to my backpack).

But in all these cases it is best to do with professional advice rather than from here.

I broke mine in Jan and rode the London to Paris in June, which was my goal – a result I think. Great to have something to work towards.

Your bookcases should always be bigger than your TV. If not, something’s gone wrong.

How do you measure a kindle library when comparing to a TV?

I think it depends on the car you are getting

I had a SMAX and the tint was horrible for night reversing (as mentioned on this post) and my sister in law complained it was gloomy. But in my BMW it is perfect, barely notice it from the inside and it is very dark form the outside.

Hassle free life = priceless esp when you live in London. I just got a tyre replaced as it had a nail in it – would have been £350 (low profile run flat)

When we did the maths at work(bunch of geeky accountants) we worked out the sweet spot was £12k – ie if you are changing your car every four years and spend less than £12k on a second hand one you are quids. If you are spending more the depreciation starts to hit you and you are better off with a company car.

This was a 3 years old 3 series vs a brand new 320d ED with probably higher insurance costs than you will pay (london).

I am paying a decent chunk a month and don’t regret a thing! Not worrying about anything is worth so much to me and I got a lovely new BMW

Volvo V40 @ 99g Co2 and 115hp – really a winner on tax if you are trying to save £££ if not a Passat.

Surely this is nothing new? High end has always been just that.

I remember bikes in the early nineties carbon and titanium hard tails at £3k plus – that was 20+ years ago!

Makes you realise how busy this place is normally.

So all the regular tourists are not here, replaced by it seems less Olympic visitors.

But traffic wise, remember schools are out and that makes a huge difference for commuters who are driving. My 15 mile car journey from wimbledon to heathrow decreases by about 30% in holiday times. Luckily I usually cycle.

Regarding the size of the screen on the S3 – the reason I sent mine back was because I could not use it one handed – my thumb could not easily reach the top and bottom on the screen without wiggling it. Needing two hands made it a tablet imho.

The OS was nice though but I cannot claim it was better than iOS

As for the BAAA comments….well they are 2 of the biggest companies in the world. But either of them and you are a sheep.

S3 plays flac – winner for me for pure music – I wouldn’t get a 4S anyways as the 5 will be here sometime in the next few months.

(still I sent my S3 back and still use my iphone)

I think it really depends on so many factors.

Right now – I have zero debt. Its good but I am not righteous about it.

But in the past I have had some debt – maybe up to £10k – but these debts have enabled me to get to where I am today, especially useful coming out of university. Without the extra cash I honestly don’t think i would have been able to get to my position today.

But I always stuck to one rule – if I could not seriously buckle down and pay it off in a year then it was too much debt.

For me, I bought a CX bike on accident really as a cheap commuter (£275 Tricross single in the sales). Really wasn’t expecting very much at all.

Oh how wrong I was – I love cx – upgraded to a Major Jake – then to a single speed again (just my preference) – they really are do everything bikes. On the Major Jake – I road on the road London to Bournemouth on a Friday (120 miles) and then on Sunday did a 30 mile mild offroad through the Purbeck with my MTB friends. Except on rocky downhills I was faster. I also did a 3 days London to Paris on the Major on slicks pack riding with roadies, no worries.

The Major died in an accident with a car (I broke my leg) and I replaced with a custom Burls singlespeed as my daily rider/hack and bought a Allez on ctw. The only reason is I wanted singlespeed for commuting – I’d be happy continuing with a CX as a road bike and as I mentioned they are great off too.

I use Sammy Slicks or Marathon’s – neither an overly aggressive CX tyre and decent on the road.
