I’m with simon_f_barnes. I’m too cowardly to get any advantage from downhill speed increase due to suspension.

Suspension is just a honey trap for moneyed-up magazine readers.

(PS for the irony challenged, that last line is a joke)

I have never found an optimum setup.

If I get something that works, it’s not waterproof.

No problem so far. Changed my user name and passwords here and elsewhere though.

    Perhaps a different perspective.

Just imagine if the Germans had succeeded in landing in Southern England in WW2, and then managed to hold most of the southern counties. Their claim being that it was Saxon country anyway.

Now, let’s imagine attempts by British “terrorists” in the rest of the country to reclaim this land and push the Germans into the sea.

Would we be justified in doing this or not?

Is there suspension on bikes now?

My god, next thing they’ll figure a way to have gears on them.

Nah, you’ve got it all wrong. Speed is an illusion, to get more of the illusion of speed, get yourself a Marlin.

Feels like a zillion mph at 70! and you can fix it with a rock and a chisel.

(I’m not biased just because I have one, no not me)

I recently bought a mobile bike shed for the same price as the last service on my Volvo.

Nothing on it works properly except the essentials, but it’s got 7 seats (I’ve now removed 3 of them) and I can stuff all the family bikes in without taking them apart. Even better, it’s got a fibreglass body and a galvanised chassis and does 35mpg or more.

Renault Espace. Most useful old bomb I’ve ever bought :-)

I bought it to see if I liked it and I’m thinking of buying a later model.

The simplest thing is if you have an old set of lights that used MR16 bulbs. You can buy LEDs in MR16 format that push straight in. Bingo – obsolete lights turned into latest thing.

You get heaps more light for peanuts. (Well, comparative peanuts)

This will show you what I mean

Sorry, I don’t have a local reference, I usually buy my LEDs from there when I’m in Oz. They will post to the UK, but there must be a local supplier.

    Not a hope.

Good for fixing your bike with though.

Thought about it, but 1st ride of the year seems like a better idea (couldn’t get time to do both).

Hey, that’s not fat! It’s my long range fuel tank.

This forum’s getting too personal – there’s even a thread about front end flex.

If they were good then, they’re still good. Lower price is better.

Only reason not to is if you are some godlike speed demon in the upper echelons of the racing circuit. But then you wouldn’t be paying for your bikes yourself anyway.

When I worked in the IT world, I used to do work with my Mac, and work on PCs so the could be used to work with..

XP removed most of my objections to PCs. Windows has a harder job to do because there is no Microsoft control over hardware permutations. Mac produces both OS and the hardware, so it’s guaranteed to work.

If it’s my money, I’ll buy Mac any day because they just work as they should. I don’t care what/who the fanboys of either sect are worshipping.

Oh bugger all that, it’s too hard, I’m off to knit some steel wool knicks

But I think the lesson is that if that the designer/engineer takes into account the characteristics of the material, then it should last as long as the design parameters say. In other words beware of amateur frame designers with new materials.

    Happy New Year all!

Oh, goodie, we’re going to consider history…

    Let’s see –
Romans invade England, build wall to keep the barbarians in the south, misplace a few legions to the north of it, decide they don’t like the weather, and go home voluntarily – score 1 for the Romans
nasty Saxons invade England – ok, you lot and your descendants go home
nasty Danes invade England – ok, you lot and your descendants go home
nasty Normans invade England – ok, you lot and your descendants go home
Nice kind Scots king and his hangers on take over England (1603) – ok, you lot and your descendants go home
nasty Dutch king and his hangers on take over England (1688) – ok, you lot and your descendants go home
then of course there were the Germans, but they’re still the bosses, so we won’t say anything to upset them

Now England will be so empty it’ll make a great mountain bike park.

O bugger, my lot are descended from the vikings who took over the west coast of Scotland, so we’ll have to go home too – but that shouldn’t be too hard to take, those Scandanavian blondes look pretty hot, and I like IKEA, ABBA and Volvos.

The final word on materials has been posted many times, but it’s worth repeating.

Steel is real. Wool is real. Therefore real men wear steel wool underwear and ride steel fixies.

That’s the sum of my materials knowledge, although anything shiny that doesn’t rust and can be made into a bike frame is irresistible to me

    It’s an evil capitalist plot.

Bosses store up all the viruses so you don’t get sick in working time and release them just before holidays and weekends so they don’t have to give you sick pay.

ernie_lynch has it right. The Palestinians are fighting for what is rightfully theirs. 60 odd years ago the news was about Jewish terrorists invading Palestinian land, bombing British soldiers, etc.

With the help of American money and muscle they have stolen Palestine and now claim the Palestinians are terrorists.

If you don’t believe me, take a look at a map of the Middle East that was published before WW2, and see if you can find a country called Israel.

Just bear in mind that battery packs with the 18650 for LEDs usually have a small circuit board to regulate the current.

Nothing to stop these being recycled from a dud set though.

FaceBook is fine so long as you realise its limitations.

    1. Restrict who can see info
    2. There is some info that cannot be restricted, therefore
on FaceBook don’t say or display anything you wouldn’t say or display in public.

You don’t have to be “friends” with every **** out there. You don’t have to post every 10 minutes.

It is really useful if you have a group activity.

Changed mine because I was using my business moniker. This was a lesson in why not to do that.

    Beside I like hub gears.
