Was pootle blind and hadn’t spotted that – seriously tempted. How much bike would be too much?

Would you use a tighter focused head torch in addition to this?

Walked Stanage at the weekend and was bone dry.

Just riding along in oughtibridge – comfortably the closest.

I had the same issue. Added a bit more sealant and hey presto, the tyres hold their pressure. The Eskar and Purgatory are very good tyres, especially when you consider how little they cost.

I like it. The monster cross version on their site looks great.

Thanks, that’s useful to know. I’ll have a play around then and see what works/doesn’t.

Just out of interest, what are peoples views on optimum head and seat angles for any given application? I realise that small things such as tyre profile/height etc can have small effects as demonstrated above but in terms of frames etc, what are your thoughts?

I for instance have an ’08 Patriot with the shuttle to alter head and seat angles. The bike is a bit of a jack of all trades but having an HT, it will primaraly used for gravity assisted work in future. Taking into account the angleset cups you can now get for the 1 1/8 headtubes etc, what would be a decent compromise between offering some downhill stability and the ability to ride back up again aferwards?

I stayed here http://www.bunk-house.co.uk/ it’s a taxi ride into Peebles but was about £7 so between five of you, it’s not a lot plus it’s really close to Glentress.

So I spoke with/emailed the companies mentioned and here is the reply I received from one of them:

Both your fork and shock are our base line models which only offer rebound adjustment, you can have them custom tuned to suit your weight and riding style but this can’t easily be adjusted by your self or out on a ride. It sounds like you will benefit by upgrading them, its difficult to get a set up that works for every type of riding. This is why we have the RC2 and RLC dampers for your forks; this offers lots of adjustment which can be changed easily out on a ride. Same with our RP23 rear shocks which have better a feel with high volume and Pro Pedal options.

Not very helpful considering I asked what they could do with what I already had.

Luckily, TFTuned were very helpful and I had a 15 minute chat with one of their guys who explained a bit of the science behind the problems I had and what they could do do try to sort this. Suffice to say, the shock is going in to be pushed and the forks to have a fettle. I’d much rather spend £200 or so with TFTuned getting this done than listen to the first company who seem more interested in upselling the Fox product range rather than attempting to help me out.

    Thanks Yetiman.

Are you just ordering a standard tune? What you going for and where from?

    Appreciate the comments guys.

The adjustments on the forks are basic and I struggle to get them to feel like I want them to. The FIT upgrade would be by Mojo and i’d be asking for a custom tune too.

In terms of the rear shock, it’s really the same story are with the forks tbh. I can’t find a happy medium with the shock and it either blows through the travel too easily or if I up the air pressure, I struggle to get full use of the shock. I’m not sure what a custom tune or Push upgrade to this shock would achieve, it being pretty basic.

I’m not set on splashing cash for the sake of it so sensible opinions are always appreciated 🙂

Fancy a vip’r but been offered a used stoy tuned to my bike for similar amount? Any thoughts?

Hi. Yes, I figured that’s what I needed to do, it’s not immediately obvious how the hoses are undone though.

Any news on when the Vip’r and Deville’s will be available? Tempted to press the button on the Vip’r but don’t want to pay and then be waiting months on end.

I’ve been recommended one for my orange patriot (08). Is it worth getting one new and pushed from Tftuned of is there a better tune of it get the shock elsewhere?

    emmodd

One is new the other isn’t but I have had them inflated with tubes first and the beads are straight on both wheels.

    emmodd

I’ve used the tube to get one side properly seated, it’s getting the air to stay in on the other side that’s the problem. To say the rims are designed for this, it’s really not straightforward is it?

I’ve got sealant but I want to mount the tyre first. Do you recommend removing the core to initially mount? I guess I need a big burst of air to fill the tyre ie; it needs to go in quicker than it comes out. Any other tips?

Second Marmalade’s b&b – stayed there myself a few weeks ago and was excellent. Only 2 mins from the car park at the bottom of Lee Quarry too.

Thanks for the response – I wondered where the Ragley runs were.

I think we’ll decide whether to brave the XC or just have a play about around Midgehole a bit closer to the time.

    Appreciated! 😀

Any other suggestions on the frame front then? Don’t want your typical hardcore hardtail and don’t want an xc racer. The Piglet seems to fit the bill but open to suggestions.

Postal Cheque sounds like a good plan. Am i being paranoid about Paypal? Is there no way that if he gifts me the money it can later be recalled?

    emmodd

Is paypal genuinely safe though? I thought it possible for money to be recalled or to ‘bounce’ leaving me out of pocket and with no forks. I stand to be corrected though.

I’ll 2nd north Sheffield. Live there myself and can’t fault the riding. Wharncliffe would be on your doorstep and the Peaks are only a short hop too. Bradfield is lovely and has easy access to the M1 or Woodhead pass so Leeds and Manchester are on the cards too.
