there’s quite a few adjustable rake forks made, I built myself one.
can’t really notice tiny adjustments would be great mated to that variable angle slackset made by vp I think.

Some tubing is more susceptible to rust than others. Columbus Niobium (spirit and life) is amazing tubing, but more rust prone. That and spirit tubes are 0.38mm in the centre. normal lightweight tubing is about0.5mm. old steel quality tubing is a bit thicker 0.6mm. stovepipe is 1mm, even 1.2mm.
I?m doing some tests for a line of steel fatbikes I’ve been asked to make. the test is quite simple. coat samples of steel tubing and chuck them in a bucket of salted water.
most substances do a decent job,the difference is that some of them are pretty easy to remove, the best ones dry up and form a coat, not just a wet film.
I’d say it’s not necessary. But it doesn’t hurt, doesn’t cost much and it’s not a bad idea.
having said that, I can never remember to put it in my personal frames when I build them up.

I like that cruiser, gumwall tyres just look right.

To take the paint off it’s best to get it blasted. Otherwise buy some sandpaper, tear it up into 3/4″ strips about the length of your elbow to fingertips and clamp the frame by the BB in a vice and have at it.
It should come out like the 29er below, the cruiser frame is sandpapered and then powdercoated, the track frame is sandblasted and powdercoated.

it didn’t work when I tried it a few years ago..32 was max it would stretch to.the newer ones are rated to 30t instead of 27t so it would probl. work.pretty noisy tho.

Mercian:integrated seattube on steel ends up being heavier.an aero post like on the 90s giants would be better I think.
Or raise the seatstays like on the pinarello pursuit frames.
Really like that shorter.BUT none of these are aero..I was thinking more..
had one in for a repair the other day,it looked a bit underwhelming in the flesh.pretty heavy too.
Apart from the gash paintjob and toptube I like the look of this

thanks, aero tubes are available stock from both columbus and deda, but it’s not as aero as some of the plain gauge stuff from aircraft spruce. We’ve got a tube profiling press so squashing stuff is easy.teardrop shapes a bit less so.

just done two tapered steerer 29ers and that condor just confirms that they simply look better.

not sure what I’m doing wrong.
that looks good, but it’s not really specifically aero.

cosmocaixa is great for kids.tibidabo amusement park is ok,nice view.mnac has good stuff, bbut a bit heavy for kids.
I like to go up to the castle,in mnjuic, the teleferic is overpriced tho.passeig de gracia, rambla de catalunya,a nice walk/shop up& down both.

WTbikes i23s,or the smaller ones if you’re running smalle tyres.but I’d get the wider ones.
or might try pacenti.no experience.never even seen them.
built with both stans and wtb rims and prefer wtb.
    plus they’re half the price.

some sobering replies.cutting down on variables is key.
having said that,I’d like to try to get to 100kmh.
done 68 without too many probls, but the lorry driver didn’t know.
if my dad’s old van can reach 100 it should work.I’ll weld some support to keep the back doors open, and get someone on a videoc. inside.
I’ll do some testing when I go back hone,so if you never hear from me again that’s why.

always do it behind my dad’s old van.countryside.
my uncle always says he’ll let me draft but always goes ever so slightly faster, then when I catch up he does it again.and again.good training though.
on rural roads those 3 wheeled vehicles are perfect.the smaller ones do 28-35kph.but consider roads are pretty hilly.so curves and whatnot.

did it pretty often commuting.in spanish traffic.
trucks are worse than buses.usually higher,so you get a bit of air between the wheels.staying right behind the wheel is better, but I’m a bit wary of a stone being flung up into my face.
got a lift from an M-class once.gave me a pull for about 20km.He’d obviously done it before as speeding up/down was gradual and smooth, and he’d put on the mergency lights to indicate when he’s do either.
    top bloke.
it’s dangerous,well.depends.depends on a lot of things.sidewinds and curvy narrow roads are pretty hairy.
old vehicles usually brake far less,so if their brake lights work then you should be able to outbrake them.
quite a few brown trouser moments come to mind.a few pretty long nosewheelies on a road bike.

done properly it’s not dangerous at all.like mtb,or commuting.or road riding.or even chopping onions.

juniors do it all the time as part of their training back in tuscany.

there was a youtube vid of a dutch? road cyclist drafting at 90kph,no helmet either.

just consider that meiffret did 204 kmh back in 62.
and the world record is 244kmH that’s 152Milesperhour.

    so,depends.
good advice steve.on cars/vans with rear glass.you can see what’s happening ahead.
2 inches is a bit near.6-10 gives you quite a bit of margin.
more than about a metre and you lose a lot of the draft.depends on the size of the vehicle though.
    2m behind a bus is fine.behind a 4×4,too far,behind a car,not much use.

I just remembered I seemed to often coincide with a garbage truck on my commute.good draft, nice easy speed, good driving, but not really advisable.

I’d not get anything from HBC.Ordered 2 ch rings in June.sent loads of emails.no reply.

    Not bad at all.
I read this the other day
    http://pvcycling.wordpress.com/2012/10/17/the-coming-confession/

It’s a mirror of our society. Greed, corporate power, corruption, conflict of interests.
and lots of good old hypocrisy.

    R: here’s a special version,just for you.
    lbs.barcelona.shit.
I did a course in electronic translators, about 10ys ago,at uni, basically I came away with the idea that I would later hold to be true about bicycle shops in barcelona.

    emanuel
    Free Member

smell it,I too would like to thank all the lbs in barcelona for making me become a decent mechanic.
They are all shite. All of them.from probike, who built me a set of wheels with 2 threads showing on the non drive side rear.though to be fair, some of the blokes are allright, when they don’t have their period.to cap problema,a brompton only bike shop who manages to know f all about the single item they sell that’s not mentioned in the catalogue. The mechanic is a decent bloke, the manager is a pretentious tosser.
To espai bici, tossers,no clue about anything.have loads of niche bikes on show and basically are run on worthington’s law (ie.a thing is as good as it is expensive).
To be fair.most bike shops I’ve found here are based on that.
    Oh,the worst.but it’s closed.thank god,a bmx shop that had one tool.a hammer.
tossers, but bike24,crc,rose,sjs and others get all my money now.I’ve got a lot more bikes than I could afford had I gone the lbs route.Mechanically they’re all in much better condition than they would be if I paid someone else to sort them out.(25eu/h ffs)
So,to all the bike shops in barcelona I hope you die and go to hell.

I bought the campy smaller corkscrew.it works well.but I’d not buy again.
skills session is probably the best idea.
I’d get him a book as well.just so you can all write a message on the inside.
memories are nice, especially when you also have something that reminds you.
something like bobet’s tomorrow we ride.or thompson’s history of the tour.or dervla murphy.
just finished the yellow jersey,it was brilliant.
best cycling gift I ever got was a painting(of a cyclist) my aunt made for me.

even if they do die,you can buy another deore hub from germany/crc sale and swap the internals.
    it’s a 10min job.
thus avoiding the wheel rebuild faff.

wait a year or so,then key/torch/pour brake fluid on his car.for now you can remove the valve cores, every week.
they sell the tool, but it’s pretty easy to make your own.

as you can see from all the answers here, you’ll never know if you don’t try it yourself.
    because there is no answer.
it’s quite a personal thing,a lot has been written about it,I’ve tried 165-170-172.5 and 175.
settled on 175 for mtb,170 for road 172.5 for cx-oddly enough,it’s the middle one that feels the most strange.no issues changing between them though.165s are ace for rollers.
^pedal thickness doesn’t have anything to do with it.the circle you’re pedalling is higher or lower, not larger or smaller.

    the folding society.
    http://www.foldsoc.co.uk/
I’m quite a bit behind on folding bikes.
however,if you can’t stretch to a brompton, try some of the cheaper dahons,I remember the dahon curve a gf got was pretty nice, and a 1/3 of what a brompton would cost.
You’ll regret getting anything except a brompton if you have to use busy trains though.

Epicyclo was the man to ask.
    I’ve got a 120mm one,built it up with a nexus 3sp and drop bars(took some doing)
Then killed the hub and put a SA 5sp with a bar end shifter.much better now.
I’ve got 38mm marathon racers on mine.38mm marathon supremes on the one I built up for my aunt(who lives in italy,so I covered up the name with some reflective tape).
I’m thinking of putting a son hub on the front.
    Running it with a119 rims,nitto 46cm noodles.
I’d like to put some nitto randonneurs on it.had midges on it before.
it’s a nice little bike.don’t much like the decals, but that’s not so important.

I got one of those japanese flouro locks off on one,it was about 3£.used it once or twice, seems allright.
Now,the supercheap bar tape I got in the same order…
I’d get pitlock skewers.or at least those allen ones with the hollow allen key.

I was always late for school when it rained because I used to stop and move the snails off the path, busy grownups just stepped on them.
it was a longish time ago,but well done for the frog, and thanks for making me remember the snails in SE london.
def more grateful than the old lady upstairs I pulled out of her burning flat a few years ago.
    Never got a card,a plant,not even a thank you.they moved away after that,but still,being neighbours you’d think she’d know my address.

    how old is old?
Juha is BW,1999 vintage if I remember rightly.never seen a kaurismaki film I didn’t like.
The doctor mabuse films are great.bit older.
1950s hollywood noir films are well lit, have decent scripts and always entertaining.
but for me,au hasard balthazar, les dames de bois de boulogne, jean of arc all by Bresson.Robert, not luc.
