TJ.. Just because someone has consideration for other road users doesn’t make them anti-cyclist.

and someone who will try and squeeze past a single cyclist will try and squeeze past two just as readily when the opportunity arises.

Whenever we’re out on the bikes we always give priority to motorised vehicle. If we’re obviously holding up traffic we’ll even pull in and let them pass.

In all my years riding I’ve never personally gone out on a ride with anyone who acts differently, nor frankly would I want too.

No matter how I try.. I cant seem to successfully sharpen my chain 🙁

What a ball ache it is too.. so much so that I just swap the chain now when it goes blunt.

Back to the original post.. I’d be pretty pissed off too if you were riding two abreast on a narrow road holding all the traffic up.

Why couldn’t you simply go single file if you were obviously causing an obstruction?

Bit of common courtesy wouldn’t go amiss by the sound of it.

Idiot cyclists who show no consideration for other road users just give us all a bad name.

She seemed none the worse for her ordeal.. but I gave her a good kicking anyway just to get my own back on Mulletmans post above.

    Dislocated legs: Knees?

It was hips.. Vet suggested that once dislocated would pretty much mean that they wouldn’t stay in place again for long.

I’ll give the tuna a go this evening.

Women eh? Why does she think this is your fault?

She’s a woman.. everything is my fault 😀

Unfortunately I don’t know who you are or where you live, but if I did I would be reporting you to the RSPCA immediately. Idiots like you don’t deserve animals.

lol are you serious? Just how do you propose I find where the cat is? or are you suggesting I completely demolish the house?

This is a very old big house with lots of hidden places in walls, under floors etc.

i have some hip pain gp says i am heading for a hip replacement in the future its not that bad really at tje moment. Gp says cycling is good for the joint i do about 100 miles a week. Am i doing the right thing or shoud i ease of you guys with the limp can you still ride

    Often wondered the same thing.

In the early 80’s I had a serious accident as a teenager breaking both my legs quite badly and always suffered with hip pain since. In the early 90’s whilst competing in the MTB world champs the doc advised me to ease up as I had seriously worn my right hip joint, caused by the difference in length of my legs.

I quit racing/training but continued to ride for pleasure, reducing the miles I was riding by about 300 per week lol. I continued running short distances 1-2 miles and boxing which it didnt seem to affect my joint.

Still to this day I have the same dull pain but luckily it only gets bad if I run more than a couple of miles or cycle 30+ hard offroad.

Thankfully that advice saved me a very early replacement. So in my case easing off seemed to halt the degeneration process of the joint (or at least dramatically slow it).

that (if genuine) the OP isn’t responsible enough to look after animals and shouldn’t have any more?

    What did I do wrong?

How long did you keep cat#1 and cat#2 before letting them out? Several weeks I hope.

    about a week.

And as for the cat in the wall – you’ll need to dig it out. You are responsible for it and leaving it there could be interpreted as cruelty.

I’m not knocking walls down for a cat!

Of course, it’s possible you’ve done everything in your power to rescue it, but from what you’ve said and the way you’ve said it, it doesn’t sound like you have…

I’ve been poking my nose and making squeeking noises into every entrance to my cavity wall for the past couple of days.

Finally, before you got each of these cats, you did check that they would be tolerant of dogs in the house, didn’t you?

The dogs don’t come into the main house.

It happens when your daughter becomes a teenager.

With four teenage daughters I can wholeheartedly agree with that 🙁

I once managed to tempt a wayward hamster back to captivity after a 10 day stint under the floorboards with a bucket and a peeled apple.

    Maybe some smelly fish?

    erm………it’s still in the wall??

    Must be..

The missus recons she spotted a pair of eyes looking at her in a void by the chimney stack as she peeped into the cavity but I think it’s her imagination..

No bad smell yet though so there’s still hope of a return

I’m no shrink, but if I may be so bold as to read between the lines…. I’d say you have realised that you’re past your best, that death is just around the corner and you’ve accepted that it’s best to just sit and wait for it to arrive.

Anti-Americanism seems an acceptable racism to certain people, strangely though, that racism usually comes from the very same people who throw the accusation so freely at others when it suits.

Been riding with pretty much the same group of mates since the mid 80’s.

Late 80’s we formed a club NottsMBC.. did loads of races/trials etc under the club banner.

Mid 90’s got VERY bored with all the organization and decided to just scrap the club/official racing but continue the regular informal rides.

Still riding to this day and I’d say the scraping of the formal club and all it’s associated drudgery is the thing that’s kept us all going so long. We turn up at a set time.. nothing is planned.. sometimes it’s a long ride.. others it’s too the local pub.. where the ride will take us is always a mystery.

One of our lot recently went out with another group.. when they asked him where his helmet was he rode off heheh.

As a young man living in a rough area of town, I’d often get a knock on the door from someone selling dodgy gear. There was this guy who would regularly come with meat in a bin liner. Found out much later that he would steal sheep/pigs from fields and butcher them in his bath !!!

Unban legend has it that there used to be a guy sell computers in motorway service station car parks.

He’d put one in the boot of his car and offer it to people as knocked off.. the price was no cheaper than in the shops and wasnt actually stolen, but he’d always find a buyer.

Apparently he made a tidy living at it.

Ive been thinking a lot recently about this business of saving the banks..

One of the reasons given was that the gov couldn’t let the banks fail, and that we came close to an Argie situation of there being no money at the cash machines and a risk of a large bank going under.

So let me get this straight.. as the gov actually already guarantees up to £85,000 that you may have in the bank through it’s ‘saving protection scheme’, they were actually only protecting people with more that that figure by saving the banks with their colossal input.. thereby passing the protection they offered to these wealthy people onto the poor via our taxes.

    I feel I’ve been robbed.

So is this for real? You really have a true life stalker who you suspect of all this? or is it simply that you’ve been unfortunate enough to be added to some spam database?

    Edit: ahha answered already 🙂

There’s a guy looks very much like that comes to my business premises once in a while.. Very well spoken chap selling pin badges for some charity providing education for children in Indonesia.

Sorry, but one of my pet hates is people turning up on your doorstep supposedly collecting for some charity or other that you’ve never heard or.

The conversation always takes the same path.. I question him on the validity of the charity.. he points me to a website (usually a one page effort with no contact) then makes a quick getaway with a promise to call back later…. Check on charities website shows that charity posted takings of about £100 in the last accounts.

I then forget about it till next time he comes.

Seems fair to pay for what you use really……..

Even when you have no alternative choice of supply and they can charge what they want?

    elzorillo

They are this week fitting water meters to the houses in my area (compulsory) although you can opt out (for now) of paying for metered usage.

That’s what they are doing round my way – fitting meters as a matter of course. Not sure if you have to opt out or opt in to get onto a meter though….

Yep.. the meter install is compulsory (houses on my street are over 100 years old) but you dont have to pay via metered supply (for now).

Dread to think what the charge will be like once they have everyone on meters.. bloody monopoly !!

bath v shower.. got me thinking….

I like to spend a good 15 minutes in the shower with constant water usage.. yet the bath takes less than 5 minutes to fill and I can stay in it as long as I like.

I’ve always been told/read that a shower uses much less water which I seriously doubt in my case.

Have a total aversion to debt.. so never had any, and I mean ANY (mortgage excluded).

Even paid the mortgage off 10 years early because I didnt like the thought of it hanging over me.

The result of a childhood spent hiding behind the settee from debt collectors I suppose 🙂

They were discussing this very subject on the BBC news this morning..

Someone was suggesting that the cyclists should use the pavement and not the roads.

There was only one subject that pretty much unanimously got peoples back up.. RLJing

TJ… looks like you should have spent some of them 40 years learning that your opinion is not the only opinion.

There is an eight mile stretch of road from my home town to the next.. Single lane traffic in each direction.. Always chocca with cars.. 90% of it national speed limit (the other 10% 50mph).. no way for cars to get past a bike.

There is a well maintained path the whole way.. In my 40+ years I have NEVER seen a single person walking this path..

So I a: ride on the path, allowing traffic to move freely and avoid being hit, yet suffer the wrath of TJ, the resident upholder of the law (Just the bits he thinks we should mind though)

Or b: Ride on the road holding up traffic for 8 miles and risking being hit.

and TJ.. I NEVER ride though red lights.
