    Slowol, you are a saint!

I contacted my local Frog reseller first, but they did not have anything in their workshop manual (!) and could not be bothered to go measure…

They offered to sell me a new wheel, though!

    Once again, singletrackworld reigns supreme!

    Osprey Radial 26 here…

Have been using it for years! Perfect size, waterproof, Lidlock for my helmet when not in use.

And it has a frame, that stops it from falling over, when you put it down! a small detail, I know, but for me it has been a revelation!

I’ve been using Shimano B01 Resin for years. Cheap, reliable, doesn’t squeal.

They are on my Cannondale CAADX commuter bike, and I have done about 6200 kilometers on that bike. I haven’t even had to adjust for wear very often.

    Actually, it’s not too impractical.

Easy to drive, not too big, everything is bombproof. In the summer, we take off the doors, load some bikes in the back, and go for a ride. It is a seven person edition, 4 wheel drive. Here is a small clip of an almost stock Valp playing around in the mud.

I used to have a 1961 Volvo PV544, but it was rusty beyond salvage.

My dad has one of these… Great fun to drive, and room for some bikes in the back! 🙂

1963 Volvo Valp, bought from the Swedish Military and brought to Denmark. This is a stock photo, didn’t have any good pictures on line.

I once came round a corner on my local, clearly marked MTB trail, and encountered 4 very portly, older genltlemen driving their radiocontrolled 4X4’s up the very sandy hill that I was trying to descend. I stopped, politely asked them to move about 5 meters over to the next identical hill, because I knew that there were quite a lot of the local speed fiends behind me. They informed me, in no uncertian terms, that I did not own the land, and they would be driving their rather expensive Tamiyas enywhere they would bloody well like to.

When I came back to the car park, I saw two of the portly gentlemen trying to figure out which of the 2 million small bits of Tamiya plastic that were salvageable.

Talked to one of the guys behind me later, turns out the car guys had stayed put, their cars got run over, then they tried to start a fight.

    Rule number 1: Don’t be a dick.

This is excellent news! I will give it a go, seems like it should work.

I am indeed based in Denmark, and while that is not halfway across Europe, it is still a major PITA to ship things back and forth. For example, if I buy something in Germany, it will cost me 5 euros to have it sent to me. Owing to ridiculous Danish postage prices, it would cost about 4 to 5 times that to return any goods to Germany if they don’t fit.

Thank you very much for your help!

Dane here… To address your concerns: The message is, that you should wear a helmet when cycling. Acording to the last larger survey in 2018, the number of Danes wearing a helmet when cycling i traffic was about 42%.

There have been a number of campaigns, and they have all been aimed at specific target groups. Some of the Campaigns have been quite funny!

    @BruceWee
, I would like to see some documentation for that statement, have never heard that one before?

By the way, bicycle helmets are not mandatory in Denmark. But, seeing as helmets reduce the risk of sustaining serious head injuries with about 60%, why would you not wear one?

That’s what I was thinking. It would be very rare that I need it for fully inflating a tyre, it would just be for topping up and adjusting pressures before rides.

My parents had one. Cute from the outside, cramped inside.

They had the dashboard changed 4 (four!) times because dials and displays did not work, and it went through a set of ball joints every 6 months.

My dad is not a very emotional man, but I think I saw him shed a tear from relief when they finally convinced a dealer to take it part-exchange for a Toyota.

    I would never buy one.

Used Fitwheels just before Christmas… excellent service, excellent price, excellent quality.

Lukasz answered any questions very quickly, and the wheels arrived before expected.

    Would definitely recommend!

But… I am in Denmark, not in Brexit-land. Have no idea what kind of impact your current situation has on the whole process.

My local track is on MOD land. Every month, the army authorities post a notice on the Facebook page og the local cycling club, telling us when it will be okay to use the area. Most days it will be open from 4 in the afternoon until sundown. The area is full of military debris, lots of spent shell cases, smoke grenades, cheveaux-de-frise, and so on.

Sometimes, they forget to tell us if there is something going on. more than once, I have had to bunnyhop over someone in full camouflage in the middle of the trail, and it really is quite startling when the forest suddenly comes alive, and starts firing blanks at you. Or practice grenades.

Also, I almost ran over a couple playing “hide the sausage” on a very busy trail. And an old VW Beetle in a dense forest about 2 kilometers away from anything resembling a road.

@Pitdog… Just asking if trail dogs were something I alone am wary of.

Seems that is not the case.

Some dogs are very friendly, and I have no probmems with them, as long as they are not a risk to me or others. Other dogs tend to bark a lot, then roll up in a pit of their own dogs eggs. I have nothing but pity for those sorry animals.

Wow, things really blew up in this thread! Where I live, we don’t really have trail centres. We do, however, have dedicated mountainbike trails, where you would not expect to encounter walkers, horses, kindergartens… Whatever.

But that’s really not the point. The point is that even though the owner may know that their dog is extremely well behaved, I don’t. And that means that when their dog comes pelting towards me at full speed, it makes me nervous.

And it seems that I am not alone.

    I have the MaxxDry one…

Fantastic piece of kit! I use it for boots, gloves, shoes… it is running every day this time of year. I frequently get wet shoes commuting, both kids seem to be puddele-seeking missiles.

    Would not be without it!

    Good points!

I have been running Rockets for a while on the hardtail, no problems so far.

The knobs are smaller, but there are more of them than on the Rekon. When on tarmac the Rocket Ron sounds like a swarm of bees, the Rekon is much louder… In my head, that means more drag?

Hmmm… I am still confused, but now on a higher level.

Yeah, I know that the apps are pretty accurate, I just like to have the right hardware. I have a feeling that TC will release a new version, but the surge in demand from all the Covid-bored hobby guitarists caught them off guard.

The pedal won’t work on the acoustic as it has no pickup.

    Great thread!

Just dug my old spanish acoustic out of the attic, turns out that its totally borked. Now to find something new!

Anyways, I really wanted a TC Electronic Polytune Clip, but they are all out of stock. Anybody know where I can find one? I bought a Korg Pitchclip 2 instead, but I am fully prepared to return it! 🙂

Thanks for all the great advise, people… I ended up ordering a Ravemen PR1600 and an extra mount for my hardtail. I really hope the package will show up soon! 🙂

Some good advice here, I appreciate it a lot!

I actually have a Lezyne light already, and as you say, the run times are very optimistic. The rubber band mount is okay on the road, but whenever I venture onto gravel or singletrack, it could be a problem.

I primarily go for STVZO lights on the road, because then the light is where I need it, not wasted on trees, hedges, the moon, truckdriver’s eyes, and what have you. I live in Denmark, so there are no legal problems using something else.

The Ravemen lights look interesting, and seem to get good reviews. I will look further into those models.

Regarding the B&M lights and their appearance. I know it shouldn’t matter as long as they provide great light, but they really make my eyes hurt…

Mine is a size large, and I am currently using a large Fidlock bottle. It’s a bit tight, but it works.

I really like mine. Have about 7 miles of road travel to reach my favourite trail, and it pedals well. Especially locked out.

Was choosing between a Blur and the Tallboy, glad I took the Tallboy. And I saved about 1000 pounds!

Please report this! That dog needs to be dealt with.

You mean the owners. No dog is born a bad dog, they are raised that way.

    @Rickon
: How dare you! I meant it exactly as I wrote it! As far as I know the owner of the dogs never bit anyone? Make sure that dog never bites any innocent bystander again! Then go after the owner, and make sure he understands what is involved in owning a dog.

Seriously, this is the kind of “Guns don’t kill people, people do” stuff I thought we could all agree on was pure bollocks.

Please report this! That dog needs to be dealt with.

When I was a kid, I was bitten by a dog close to where I lived… I was on my bike, it jumped a fence and bit me in the calf. I managed to scare it off. My parents did not report it, the dog’s owner was an old lady with no-one else but the dog for company. six months later that same dog attacked another kid, tore up her face, and she lost one of her ears.

If I had been in your position, I would have kicked the living dayligths out of that dog, made sure it did not bite any innocent people again.

Just Putolined my first brace of chains.

I had expected a fiery death, or at the very least hideous disfigurement due to burning hot wax. Actually it was quite a lot easier than I thought, and I didn’t even get chain wax on anything but the chain. Even the smell was almost nonexistent!

If this works as you lot says it does, then I shal be Putolining from now on!

Wow, those Dialed Cranks are cheap! Too bad they are sold out everywhere.

I’d rather not pay a small fortune if possible, so those HUP still tempt a lot.

Those Tune are cool too, shame that the 3 min 9 sec are so short.

Thing is, I live in Denmark so if I had to have something custom made it would be pretty expensive.

Well, I have a brand new deep fat fryer and a unopened tin of Putoline here on my workbench… I’ve been putting off giving it a go, because I need to clean all the caked on old Finish Line goo off the cassette and derailleur. Waiting for postie to deliver a new can of Citrus Degreaser at the moment.

    Apart from that,
I need to fix a flat on the cargo bike. Needs to be done tonight, the missus needs it by tomorrow morning.

Fit new grips on the 5 year old daughters Spesh hotrock. I am dreading this, ’cause she wanted pink grips, but they were sold out so I had to get white ones again. She rides about 4 miles round trip to kindergarten every day, and she is very particular about her bike preferences.

And if I get bored, I have finally bought a proper brake cable to replace the gear cable I bodged on to the back brake of the CAADX commuter about six months ago.

My hand is hovering over the buy button om starbike, have decided that I want to build a nice 29’er wheelset to replace the 27+ wheels on my Tallboy.

When i was in my early twenties, I moved to the US in order to study at University of California, Santa Barbara. Seeing as I had used all my money for accommodation, I had to take the cheapest route from Aalborg to California. It went like this: Aalborg – Billund – Brussels – New York – Los Angeles. Due to a delay in Brussels, I arrived in New York just 15 minutes before my plane to LAX was about to leave. The immigrations clerk processed my student visa lightning fast, grabbed my bag, and sprinted with me through JFK, clearing a path for me with his employee ID. I arrived at the gate just at the plane started taxiing away… The clerk then offered me a ride and a bed at his house for the night, and he even arranged for a seat on a transfer flight the next day. So I spent some very enjoyable hours in a big, African American household, and made it safely to LA the next day.

Great start to a great period of my life!

Just bought a tub of Putoline, going to experiment a little when the wife and kids are out of the house…

I was just wondering, where I live, it sometimes gets cold in the winter. I have had squirt lube freeze on the chain, making it totally stiff and inflexible. Anyone had that happen using Putoline?

I am well and truly tired of the mess that Finish Line Wet or Muc Off Ceramic leaves.

There is no doubt that single lever dual caliper setups can work. They are used in many places, especially on trikes and bikes used by people with one arm missing, or weaker than the other.

It’s just that the calipers that Bengal uses are made of cheese, and with a very small gap between pads, which means that they need to be aligned to within a micron with the disk in order to stop making rubbing or squealing noises.

Additionally, it really bothers me that the pads are quite unusual, which means that aftermarket options ar very limited and expensive.

There are some good suggestions in this thread, and I will look into fitting other calipers.

    elwoodblues
    Free Member

I think that I maybe didn’t explain the problem with fitting other rotors. First of all, the setup on the picture is not the one thats on my bike. The bike pictured looks like one of the bikes they make for commercial use, like bike taxis, handicap transport, sales carts, and so on. The one on my bike is more flimsy, and I think that is one of the reasons the brakes squeal. There is already one special adapter fitted, and I think that it is a bad idea to put an adapter on top of an adapter. I could be done, if I really wanted to. That will be my last resort.

My main gripe is not the lack of braking power. It is the fact that I have to align and adjust the bloody things almost daily, in order to make them shut up. I had hoped that some calipers from another company would be more forgiving in their setup, giving me slighly more leeway before they start making noise.
