eBay is your friend. I pocked up a Mongoose Micron which was nominally second hand for £50. My 8 year old could not detect it wasn’t brand new. A new set of grips, saddle and chain and I couldn’t have detected it wasn’t new. For a 6 year old you are probably looking at 18″ wheels max.
Set up a regular search on ebay for Mongoose, Haro and GT and you should be fine before Christmas.

I have the JVC – over ear ones, great for the Turbo Trainer and flying. Also a bit of a bargin compared to some of the other options. They also come with an adapter jack to fit some of the odd connectors found on some planes.
