It still takes 24 hours to fly to Australia but in real terms it’s far cheaper than it used to be. My mum’s brother emigrated to Aus in the 50s, she thought she’d never see him again. Now, even as retired teachers they can afford to go. They’ve seen sunrise at Uluru, tropical jungles, deserts, oriental cities, wonders of the world. I’ve cycled on great mountains, crossed continents, swam in distant oceans, lived in different cultures and even met my wife all thanks to affordable air travel.

Ahh, but have they seen attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion? 🙂

As a kid my parents were very strict with me with regards eating habits. Basically I was encouraged to try things and I found I liked most items so continued to eat them.

As a result pretty much the only food I wont eat is turnip and rhubarb. Having said that I had rhubard the other day as I mistakenly ordered it with a desert and it was alright.

What I have found getting older though is my taste buds have evolved. When I was in my teens I used to hate olives but can’t get enough of them now. I also love capers and anchovies!

Edit: I forgot cockles. Can’t do them. They look like little fannies.

A friend got married under one at Manchester Airport a couple of years ago. We got to go on a tour afterwards so that was pretty cool.

TBH I think you’re going to have to take a dump on the carpet to set a precedent. That way early on the relationship you both know where you stand.

+1, although I’d go further and point out the vast majority of students get by on about £4,500/p.a. loans and don’t top it up with a job.

They also don’t pay council tax, which saves about £1,500 a year. Assuming you can rent a shared student flat for 30% less than a standard one, you’ve also saved another couple of thousand a year.

I bet they have similar disposable income to someone on a minimum wage job, living in a small studio flat.

Sounds backwards but I think I was actually better off as a student than I am working full time now… 😕

I’m from Exmouth. Ticks the coast box and you can ride to Woodbury Common from the doorstep. I wouldn’t have said its that close to London though as you either have to go cross country or up the m5 to join the m4.

Ta for that pguy, sounds promising. Apparently Halfords in Swansea and Cribbs Causeway have them in stock for anyone in those areas wishing to try for size.

theres going to be loads of bloody kids there

Don’t do as a freind of mine witnessed at a wedding then. And that was for the best man to proclaim he and the groom had been though a lot together over the past years. Namely the majority of the girls on the table at the back.

I use this as its what I have on the shelf. Plus I use it on car door seals in the winter to try and prevent them from freezing.

    Edit: sorry, smaller pic

el_tell you do realise that if you don’t get 3G now you wont get 4G either?

I suppose what I meant was I dont get v good 3G coverage with Orange a lot of the time. Possibly due to my old phone or their shonky network.

The operator mentioned that as Orange/Tmobile/EE are part of the same family & EE is slowly being bought in a few mobile masts in certain areas were being taken down to accommodate the new EE masts. Therefore coverage on EE should in theory be betterer 🙂

I concede he could have been BS’ing me though…

Andy and XXX have recently moved into their first home together. Now as we all know, moving into your first house and furnishing it comes at great expense and although Andy had his own bachelor pad before, a TV, a chair and a huge selection of DVDs isn’t furniture.

Would reference to his huge pron stash here be inappropriate?

Andy now cycles 20 miles to work and back each day.

And as a result will likely be too tired to consumate his marriage tonight?

codeine is your friend… but not for more than 3 days! :-/

I took codeine for a week after my bike accident. I neither went to the toilet for a week as well 😕

Simialrly to Molgrips I’m currently with Orange and its upgrade time. I was effectively told by the operator that it was cheaper to switch to EE rather than renew my contract with Orange.

Not made a decision yet but EE sounds like it could be promising as I rarely get 3G coverage with Orange at the moment.

I’ve not ridden it past Tongwynlais but if the rest of it up to Brecon is like the lower parts then its mainly tarmac and a piece of cake to ride on.

Okay, so this comment doesn’t relate to Bolt or Farah so probably irrelevant but if you take the WR mens marathon time which is 2:03 and average over 26 miles they are running sub 5 minute miles. Anyone here run close to a 4 minute mile…?

I saw them on the Halfords website but none in my local.

Though there are 2 other stores to choose from nearby so I’ll check them.

    Good call.

The benefit of using the same login as last year means you automatically enter any leagues you were in the previous year, as long as the admin has renewed. Plus you can see how many points you had the previous year and how rubbish you are doing!

Likewise I recently damaged my Giro Hex in a crash and am looking for a replacement so would be keen to know how you get on with the Leaf when it arrives.

    Hope you’re healing well 🙂

Hmm, e-mailed and heard back from Carbon Cycles they don’t supply spare axles for these.

One last ask before I investigate other options but has anyone successfully used the axle from superstar in this model? I know I wont get an answer from SSC…

It it me or was the pace of the final stage a bit too high/quick – I thought it was meant to be a little bit darker for the last lap of the champs elysees?

Just to add to the thanks to RealMan, chapeau sir.

I’m going to stick my neck on the line and plump for a Cav victory as I reckon he’ll have come out of the mountains with more energy than Kittel and has just that bit more experience on the champs elysees.

I’ve also noticed in the velogames league headfirst and I appear to share the same thoughts regarding team jersey and name. I’ve finished very far down though 🙂

Let’s face it some people can’t look after their children when perfectly sober, so in the grand scheme of things a wee dram surely is nae bother 🙂

In a nod towards the green jersey Sagan’s effectively got that wrapped up hasn’t he barring a bad crash etc, but surely it can’t be too far away until its mathematically impossible for anyone else to take it?

    *odd question alert*

I love reading all about the rider etiquette in the tour but it got me wondering what happens if/when riders in a breakaway need to stop for a call of nature. Stopping would surely see the chasing peloton reel them in… so what do they do? Hold it in? Point and pee whilst riding?

Hmm, looking at the platform dimensions in the specs it shows:

    Superstar:
    105x100x17mm LxWxD

    Carbon Cycles:
    94x95x17mm

So a difference in the pedal body albeit a small one. Reckon that’s going to cause a problem?

    Still 70m left to climb…

They’d better hurry up, I imagine the Shell execs will knock off at 5.

My twopence worth but as this is not based from personal experience or use feel free to ignore 8)

Whilst the edge 500 & 800 are nice looking and bike specific they are very pricey (although the 500 can be had cheap now as its been superceeded).

It might be worth looking at general outdoor GPS such as the Garmin Etrex 10/20/30, which are cheaper. Okay so they’re more bulky but you can get bike mounts and the screen offers full colour mapping.

Or if you have a mate with a card just borrow theirs. Though for £2.50 I’m not sure you would get a huge discount anyway 🙂

How do you practice exiting your bike?

Post a nasty accident where I smashed my face up I was asking myself the same question the other day. I feel that if I had fallen & rolled I might have fared better from the accident. Sort of like a judo roll perhaps.

Is this the sort of thing that skills courses teach?

Edit: sorry for slight hijack but seemed pertinent to op’s last post.

On a similar vein (not the idents I know) what’s with the images of previous Tour competitors on the ITV4 coverage? I only ever see the same few names shown.

    ^Ooof, sounds nasty!

Yep, that is sound advice methinks. I had been contemplating a skills course for a while too so I might give some serious thought to booking one as a means to getting my confidence back up when I can ride again.

I’m with the checkout assistant on this one and the property manager sounds like an arse.

Mind you, its not half as annoying at the people wondering down the high street texting and not looking where they are going.
