Least faff free? You want as much faff as possible?

Ahh congratlations. You err… passed my test… 🙂

I was browsing in Halfords last night and they had these but in 700c flavour

But checking the SKS site I notice the posters above refer to these

I notice the fittings (stays?) are quite different though so not sure if one version is easier than the other?

As cheers_drive mentions the brake bosses are free so the rear should be simple. But the front caliper uses a hanger attached to the fork brace so I can envisage faffage

Edit: Do you want faff free or ones that protect you from spray? Definitely the latter!

Hmm, I have a set of Elixr 5’s and have been pretty happy with them so far. They are powerful and stop me fine so not much not to like.

I had an issue pushig the pistons back in recently though and also accidentally let a bit too much fluid out of the system so now they require a bleed for the first time.

I’ve got the kit of Epic Bleed Solutions so presume the instructions with that will work well? Seems straightforward to me.

I thought the problem with eating vast quantities of tinned tuna due to the effects of bioaccumulation, being as they are high up in the food chain and long lived?

Just for clarity OP, your friend is not the same person in the link you posted is it – that was just used as an example of the type of scam he fell for?

I want to know when they’re getting the winter gloves back in, as I’ve managed to miss the boat in previous years.

We’re getting married next Nov and have been quoted £7k for venue hire, food and drinks (90 people day & night). We’re hoping to come in under £10k so need to do invites, rings, dress, photographer and band/dj for less than £3k so we’re looking to save where we can.

It depends on your venue but you can save a huge chunk depending on the time of year you get married. I think Oct – Mar (ex Xmas) are generally cheaper.

However I still don’t mix and match.

Ditto – I prefer not to. If I had the cash right now then I’d change them so I’ve the same tyre on each corner ideally, but for now I’ll just have to rely on one axle being the same.

Its a 1.6 litre Mazda so by no means a sports car, but as myself and fiance both use the vehicle I do feel better (safer I guess) if the car has decent boots.

The Conti Premium Contact doesn’t get too good reviews for tyre wear and economy so I really wanted to avoid buying another. I’ve seen Goodyear Efficient Grip for around £67 a corner that get a good write up so was planning on buying just the two for now & putting on the front/rear axle and waiting until the other wear.

Not sure whats best between an Autogrip and Sagitar! I’ll go for the one with the deepest tread methinks 🙂

If only she was intelligent enough to understand that the tweet isn’t the important bit.

    +1

Not at all condoning her actions but I can’t help but feel if she had the intelligence to put her hands up and admit she was in the wrong from the outset, and acknowledge she should have stopped, then the subsequent media storm could have been averted. But then I suppose that would mean her admitting guilt, and she dimly thinks she has done no wrong.

He also said he just doesn’t care about this issue at all.

Thoughts? Not sure what your course is but perhaps your colleague is on the wrong one if this is his viewpoint.

As for me, I try and do my bit partly because I feel duty bound, partly because I want to try and make a different and partly because I cannot abide those who wont even try.

In addition, working a profession (Facilities Management) where I manage buildings we have a social and moral responsibility. Plus the implications for energy/waste/transport etc reduction can have a big impact on costs, so not only are we making improvments but we’re also saving money.

Looking properly, driving at the speed limit, waiting till there’s space for your vehicle before you pull out, all seem out of fashion at the moment.
Doing what suits you and then having a strop at anyone who’s in your way seems more fashionable.

    + a million

I’m not saying I’m the best driver in the world but I like to think I’m patient & I make every effort not to drive like a dick.

However, the sheer no of people ive witnessed lately pulling dumb ass manoeuvres is mind boggling. Like the billy stitch earlier who instead of driving behind me decided to pull out into the right hand turn only lane beside me, only then to floor it & cut back in front of me before slamming on her brakes 🙄

If you went into a first class carriage- I wonder how many public sector workers there would be in there.

When I worked for a Public Sector employer I used to book train tickets for my boss. The policy was that if you were above a certain grade you got to travel first class, I presume so that you can do work on the train. Although you were still able to claim travel and subsistence costs back…

Back the the ticket cost was £225. This was from Cardiff to London so only a 2 hr journey!

Yep agree with the above – their site their rules tbh.

On a loosely similar note I recall someone on here (PeterPoddy I think) worked at a site, where for H&S reasons, staff HAD to reverse into parking spaces so they could drive out forwards at the end of shift. Or something very similar.

Whilst that’s hugely reckless and irresponsible it sort of pales in comparison to this chap… 😯

I enjoy F1 and agree with a lot of the above in giving credit to Vettel, but even I admitt the proessional aspect to this year has become a little boring. At least last year we had 7 different winners of the first 7 races or something like that, but this year the margin between RB and the rest is just huge, highlighted by some of Vettel’s lap times in Japan.

Personally I reckon they should bring back refuelling and have competition between tyre manufacturers like when they had Bridgestone and Dunlop (or was it Michellin?).

Yeah, the chap in the lbs mentioned brake judder is more of an issue with cantis.

Anyway, a bump for the weekend crowd sheltering from the storm!

Incidentally, anyone have some insider info on more of a firm date when the 2014 Crosslight 5T’s are available?

but saying that £1.1m for the older house?? really??

If this is the old house http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-42162980.html?premiumA=true then it sounds like it comes with approaching 30 acres of land…

EDIT: Just seen JEngledow’s link – I think I might have the wrong cob house, so I’ll cob along 🙂

I know that I don’t like to feel people are watchig me – so it’s not a great game for me when you have to tee off and you know there are people watching.

I can fully empathise with this 🙂 I recall one instance where we were running a little late for the tee off time. When we reached the first tee there was a small group waiting for us. I could feel all these eyes on me and was shaking like a leaf. Silly really

I used to play a fair bit but not so much in the past couple of years. As others have mentioned it couldn’t be more different from cycling but I enjoyed it all the same. Particularly the strategic thinking required depending on the different shot or club choice you would have to make. Plus when you caught the ball sweetly with a driver it felt great.

Tell you what though, golfers are worse than cyclists for changing their kit – there’s tons of used equipment on ebay.

EDIT: Oh and whilst I doubt you would ever get fit from golf, playing a full 18 holes on a long hilly course could see you walking a good 5 miles or so (depending on how straight you’re playing) whilst carrying a relatively heavy bag.

The image on the wheelbase website certainly looks like it has rack/guard mounts on frame and forks – the ones near the dropouts look very neatly tucked away

Ahh I couldn’t quite tell from the picture on the wheelbase site – my screen isn’t very good on this (works) pc… 😉

The Kinesis ticks a lot of boxes and looks great too, but alas no more 2013 models available and the 2014 ones aren’t available for a while it seems 🙁

Did you plump for the carbon fork eskay?

Sorry it was the 2014 model I was looking at here:

    http://www.wheelbase.co.uk/bikes/cyclocross/focus-mares-ax-40-c-2014/

Think the 2013 AX 4.0 model is the hefty looking beast with full guards and mech discs 🙂 Confusingly they changed the model no’s for 2014

Ha, so maybe just a little bias! To be fair they new aluminium CX range looks good but the Focus website doesn’t give loads of info compared to other brands. Reviews seem quite scarse too.

I’m pretty sure looking at the pic on their site the frame has rack mounts but not the fork. I’m keen to run full length guards for winter commuting purposes really.

Ahh I see, thanks for the reply. I’d always wondered how so many get access to these derelict places but never had chance to ask anyone in the know.

Looking at some of your shots (they’re great by the way), the fact a lot of these visit seem to be made at night and what you said regarding flashes, do you just tend to use a really slow shutter speed?

    ell_tell

A general question here but in Ben’s vague direction…

I’ve spent hours pouring over these sites as I find them fascinating but are many of these derelict places closely guarded by security? I’ve often wondered how you overcome this to gain access? I would imagine flash photography in otherwise dark places draws the attention somewhat 🙂

Reckon I would have done the same.

The annoying part is when some wally decides to tailgate the emergency service vehicle through the path thats been cleared, meaning that everyone who has had to pull over to a safe place has to wait for them to come though as well.

Get an old Golf for about £1k then spend £2k on a new bike?

Ha yes, if I wanted to incur the wrath of my partner I could do that. I’m okay for bikes at the moment as strange as that might sound on here 🙂

something to bear in mind if you’re looking at a Ti-VCT model

Hmm, I’ve been looking at the 115 bhp variant of the 1.6 petrol, which I think might be the Ti-VCT so thats worth bearing in mind.

I really like the new shape Civic (with the ingenious folding seats) but they’re quite a bit higher priced than a Focus sadly.

I don’t think it’s nervous passengers, at my wedding, the best man’s speech did refer to my driving as getting a lift with Ben is the closest you’ll come to being kidnapped without actually being kidnapped.

I like that quote & can echo the sentiment having been a passenger with some of my friends 🙂

Conversely, I don’t think I am a particularly good driver* & perhaps my consideration might ebb a bit towards hesitation, which isn’t a great driving trait to have. However, I do seem to notice other peoples bad driving, particularly in the city where it seems no one understands road markings. Dunno about other cities but in Cardiff chatting on the mobile whilst bimbling along seems to be the order of the day.

*except my parallel parking which is pretty shit hot

Sounds promising, I’ve never owned a Ford but hear generally good things about them these days. As you say perhaps a little bland but I’m consigned to the fact with my budget I’m not going to get anything exciting that fits the criteria.

Mark IV golfs are cheap now but not too reliable so I’ve heard.

I know the person that posted the vid remains anonymous but judging from the footage its going to be a biker isnt it? Therefore interesting to note why a fellow biker would have posted this online, to side with the driver, as lets face it the footage doesn’t portray the bikers in a particularly positive light.

Oh and whilst im ranting, why do many countryside car parks have dog shit bins, but not litter bins? FFS

I believe this is intentional. I can’t recall the exact reason but its something along the lines that supplying litter bins across the countryside actually encourages visitors to litter rather than take rubbish back home with them.
