Hey grenosteve, saw you drive past my place the other day, quite the recognisable vehicle that T4.

I will definitely be wandering up the hill to watch if I can’t get a place.

Been out riding in Wharncliffe every weekend since I moved in, didn’t even know the place I was buying was close to the woods.

What a stroke of luck… although I haven’t found a particularly great pub to frequent yet.

Hope the numpties riding the track while it’s been closed haven’t done too much damage before it’s bedded in.

    I’ll add to the praise.

Been with them for the last 2 properties (2 years). I moved from a place with tank gas and they transferred the balance remaining on my electricity.

They forgot to increase the DD to cover the fact that I am now getting gas through them as well so I am currently sat £400 O/D on the account after this only just came to light from when I moved in October.

Incredibly helpful lad on the phone said don’t worry, just adjust the DD to an amount you can afford monthly and that should slowly decrease over the course of the summer. We won’t hit you with a bill for the £400 of gas you have used.

Didn’t really matter as I’m used to forking out for a tank refill in one hit but I thought that it was a nice way to do business.

Their communication and web service are excellent.

I did exactly that. Moved from a PX CSL to a Cannondale Supersix hi-mod about 2 years ago.

The cannondale is a far nicer bike to ride, makes me far more confident on the descents as the planet x did occasionally suffer from an intense speed wobble (more to do with keeping myself over the front of the bike rather than off the back on descents as I was used to mtbing).

The supersix is lighter and stiffer in important areas and along with some new wheels is a completely different ride.

I have both a seiko automatic (monster) and a seiko solar pilot.

These days I hardly ever use the automatic as it has to be worn every day to keep its charge. The pilot is more useable due to it still working despite being left on the bedside table all weekend.

+1 for creation watches they are great value for money and a good turnaround time on the pilot when I ordered it.

STEM is not a subject, it is an acronym for a group of subjects which I suspect you would have studied at least up to a certain point or you wouldn’t be teaching now.

Sciences are taught in a variety of manners in my experience and saying that any of the STEM courses are taught with an emphasis on verbatim learning is largely incorrect.

    I’ve got one of these:

And I love it. Had it for a year and it still looks as new.

A fine punchline if you know a bit about the American countryside:

“Hugh, and only Hugh, can prevent florist friars.”

Can never remember the rest of the damn joke though.

Think the trailer for American Sniper looks pretty good in an action type movie. Not read the book but it gets pretty good reviews.

Did visit Zell Am See for a days boarding when I was on a recce trip. Was nice, little bit lower than Salbach-Hinterglemm and a smaller piste area but still nice and the snow should be good in Feb.

A bonus being that you are close to Kaprun which is well worth a visit, I had one of my better days boarding up there but if the weather is bad it’s worth avoiding.

CB It’s unfortunate that it’s a government that I didn’t vote for either, and your people north of the border help to sway things in a more positive direction by your presence in the union. We’re politically more vulnerable to Tory PLC without you and that worries me. That’s why I don’t wish for you to leave.

I can see that you are desperate for it but I’m not sure how an independent Yorkshire campaign will go.

I am still somewhat surprised that Cameron has made such an effort in the No campaign. If Scotland leaves it reduces the labour majority quite significantly and I would be surprised if we saw a non Tory government for a long time. The Scottish provide a decent balance that if removed puts Cameron and co. in a really strong position.

Labour won 41 seats in Scotland in the 2010 General election. Compared to 1 Conservative. That would be a big loss for supporters of Labour south of the border.

That’s the only reason I still hope for a No vote.

Hinterglemm is smaller and quieter, but most hotels have nice little bars and good beer. Saalbach has a bit more in the way of nightlife/apres ski. Both are convenient for the lifts, although check where your hotel is as they spread along the valley quite a long way and hinterglemm hotels are more likely to be convenient for the lifts.

Hi Rockape, I used to organise a school ski trip to Saalbach/Hinterglemm.

It’s one of my favourite areas to board and I’ve been to a fair few.

Nice and spread out and in Feb you should get the best of the snow. Used to take the kids in April and it can get a bit patchy by then (Easter).

I downloaded “The Last Of Us-Remastered” the other day based on it having the best reviews of any game out on the PS4 so far. Haven’t played it yet but…

CoD Ghosts is good, if you like getting shot really quickly by teenagers with quick reactions.

Watchdogs didn’t hold my interest for long.

Trials bike thingy (can’t remember the real name) is addictive if a little repetitive,

Hey there hora. The Cannondale is completely different to the Planet X. I had the Superlight carbon and rode it for John O’Groats to lands end and it was very comfortable. The Supersix is a much racier frame, and it really handles well, I used to get speed wobble on the PX on some fast descents and had to really force my weight forward (counterintuitive for a mountain biker).

The Supersix is lighter and this helps on the climbs. I think for sportive type riding the planet x was brilliant, but for the frequent flat out loops and the occasional long ride that I tend to do mostly the supersix is better.

I’m 5’10” with 32″ inside leg and I’m pretty much spot on with the 56cm supersix, although my flexibility is pretty good.

I have a Supersix HiMod and love it! Although the spec on the giants components are good for the money I think the ride is largely determined by the frame and I can’t fault mine.

But that is obviously coming from a biased cannondale owning point of view. (I was fortunate enough to buy the frame second hand off ebay and fit the components from my PX ultegra that was a bargain a couple of years before)

Consider yourself lucky Johndoh I have to put up with that same situation at home… perhaps the passive aggressive “loud tidying” will eventually get the message across.

    Blundells near Tiverton?

A friend went there when I went to the local FE college. He turned out alright… although so did I.

I broke mine and didn’t realise it was broken for a couple of years. This was shown in the X-ray as there were 2 small bones where there should have been a single bone (scaphoid).

Cue surgeon booking me in for surgery quick sharpish, a bone graft and 3 months in plaster.

Was still riding when I was in plaster (after about a month as it was driving me nuts).

I still have a lock on the wrist – it doesn’t bend back into the position necessary for push ups (good excuse) So make sure you get some physio after the cast comes off, I missed this as I went off to uni.

    Correct Molgrips.

That **** was opinionated and oblivious to the experiences of the people he was supposedly responsible for. The complete opposite to the sort of person I would have representing me and driving forward my profession.

Unfortunately it is no longer my profession as he was screwing it up so royally that I left to do something more independent and less interfered with.

I should thank him for forcing my hand but I did enjoy teaching.

    Good riddance to him.

Pretty grim conditions on the first day by all accounts. Snow, wet, cold, and sloppy.

Maybe not so jealous. I guess the time of the grand depart is a bit early if it’s been a harsh winter.

I will be watching my mates dot on trackleaders.

This will be his 2nd attempt and the training he has done has been quite the eye opener. I don’t think I can quite comprehend how people race this, even *just* riding it seems like the most daunting prospect to me.

Good luck to all who are participating!

It seems to be becoming even more of a problem, but it seems to be a societal problem. When I used to work as a teacher I was infuriated on a number of occasions by students dropping litter in the playground or on the field. When confronted about it they would often say: “That bloke who goes around picking it up gets paid to do it so it doesn’t matter if I drop stuff”. To which I would have to point out all of the more desirable or useful things that a groundskeeper in a school could be spending his time doing.

I’m all for litter sweeps of car parks by participants after events.

I would have thought it prudent to send the 2 of them, especially with the opening week dramas that seem to occur before the field gets spread out.

It seems every GT has a few big names suffer crash injuries in the first week and bringing a couple of contenders would proof the team against that to an extent.

Yeah, I’m really pleased with it.

Got the monster for day to day use (as indicated above it’s not particularly a looker but it is pretty bombproof), thought I’d get this for a bit of a smarter look. It was a billy bargain as well at £135.

Might read the massive thick manual later and figure out how to use all the slidy rule featury bobbins.

erm, I don’t know chewkw. I would have thought it would say either on the face (a la swiss) or on the case but no dice. How else can I tell?

The Japanese made ones you showed earlier don’t have the numbers on the face and mine does (a bit like the orange faced one earlier and the one in my picture).

Was watching a documentary thing with Mark Cavendish and he had a pretty smart looking kettle with a temperature readout on it.

Could be good for brewing coffee without burning it.

Never have found out what model of kettle it was though.

For all of your tea brewing needs! Actually it pretty much says what dbcooper just said up there:

Mind you there’s nowt there about tea bags or compost (heated) water!

Yeah, I used O2 recycle a couple of times when I had a contract with O2.

Worked well for me, went into shop, got estimate of value, handed over phone. The money arrived in my account a couple of weeks later.

First time I got the full estimated value, second time I had a slight reduction due to discoloured moisture indicators or some such. Wasn’t much of a reduction though.

Both times they were iPhones and I got a decent amount, approaching what I would expect to sell them for.
