Try the various vendors who provide Mech services….
    eg.
    PSN / Woodgroup
    WIreline crews (Bj services).

Might be worth considering an Opito rigging ticket. Rigger with a mechy background always handy. Esp during shutdown time.

Judging by the ppl I’ve met offshore recently, as long as you have a pulse you’ll do. Some vendors appear to just fill bed space with numpties, (imo).

    good luck

I watched Breaking Bad while offshore. I watched it again at home, as my wife decided to give it a go. Great the second time around!

    These are worth a look
    The killing 1-3
    Spiral 1-4
    The Bridge 1
    Borgen 1-3
    The Wire 1-4
    Californication 1-3
    Life
    Sopranos
    West wing

Making my way through Deadwood, it good so far!

I had my stag do at the dales bike centre (Reeth N. Yorkshire). Hired the whole place for two nights, so we didn’t disturb anyone else.
Stu was ace! great places to stay, good bacon sarnies, bike hire for those who might not be MTbers. Good pubs close within walking distance, great riding.
We had a big BBQ, loads of beer etc. Kept it tidy!
    Would recommend it.

    Volume!!
Are you just starting out ? Mini Mal, easy. They’re great to learn on & once you get the hang of it you can either down size or go longboarding.
They hold their value if you want to sell your board on.

It’s seem quite difficult to get it back together

Barrel sits nicely on the flange, slide cassette onto the barrel, cone shape thing (excuse my ignorance) on the bearing then screw the cap back on. Correct??
Doesn’t seem to be happening for me, where am I going wrong with the process?

Obviously, I’m not the greatest mech but want to learn

Rope Access – both on and offshore.
I enjoy it, been doing it for a long time so the shine has rubbed off a bit & the industry has changed. I have a small rope access contracting company, I enjoy that side of things.

The money is ok, offshore jobs always pay better, its mainly a lifestyle choice – choose when you work, what jobs to do,

Mattbee -I worked on the spinnaker tower when it was being built.

37 and riding around Airedale, the Dales and Gisburn on my Soul. Recently had a weekend at K’tree etc but natural riding on a steel hardtail is way better.
I’ve only ever ridden FS once, no big deal, although Cotic rockets look nice :D

Saltaire is a good option. Good rental market
Little houses, ok size for a couple. But limited storage , not all have outhouses/cellars.
Flats in the Mill or old hospital.

    letting/estate agent
    village estates
    JI
    maxwells

Good local riding, pubs, rail/bus links to Bradford & Leeds
Its a nice place to live, better than most of the BD areas mentioned above.

How do you make your living?
    Offshore Rope Access

    Are you happy doing it?
Yep, I like the time off.

Would you consider a change of career?
Yes or I’d go back to doing rope access onshore which is far more interesting.

Does it pay enough for you to MTB comfortably?
Yes- but I only need one bike. I just make it nice one.

What about the Long Mynd? I’ve wanted to have a look for a while. Is it a waste if time even thinking about heading there.

    We had one laid recently

    5mm oak on 10mm ply. From http://www.oakbydesign.co.uk
The fact its on Marine ply means shrinkage/ expansion/warping due to moisture isn’t an issue. Its laid on a existing wooden floor (nailed) in one room and on a yorkshire flag floor (floating). The floor is over a cellar so moisture a was big concern to us. Not anymore though!

We had the wood smoked for 8hrs to speed the ageing process (darker). Then applied junkers clear oil.

Ours is bevelled. Looks much better (IMO- we looked at both) but dust does catch in the groove. Lazy Wife

The best thing… I ripped the existing skirting board off and new ones to covers the gap around the edge rather than have bead around the edge which looks really naff!

Went 2-3yrs ago. We thought it was mega!
Had to book two nights in hotel in havana, for the benefit of the entry visa. After that…We stayed in with families, B&B (casa particulares) – very cheap, cuban locals benefit from the cash, its a good way to exp. cuban life.
    Avoid all inclusive.

Cool place great, rum, music people. The food isn’t awesome

Travelled around…Havana-Trinidad-Vinales-Havana. If you head to vinales, take climbing gear to give to local climbers.

    IDEAS is a good one

Our company is 360 rope solutions (bit of a Mouthful), but refer to it as 360. Seems to work for us. We have small online presence http://www.360rope.co.uk , its a relatively niche industry our site relfects this and act as an online brochure/”showcase”.

We used a local, very reasonably priced design company for the logo and word press site builder, based in North Yorks. I can give their details if you like.

Did a month in Costa Rica
Drove San jose to Tamarindo. The onto Montezuma (surfing along the way)then drove over to carribean coast to Cahuita and down to the panama border.

Best surf trip I’ve been on.

Pacific Coast far better (Playa negra-Mal Pais etc). Although Carribean was great craic at night.

I’ve always surfed and climbed, basically done exactly what I wanted to do. Also, I have always worked away from home.
Engineered life to suit only me!

I didn’t find it hard to settled down & get married. I found the right woman & was prepared to compromise. Having said thatm I still work away (2wks away 2 wks at home). During my two weeks off I try to squeeze my hobbies in (during the day, while she works) and the rest of my time belongs to my wife. My wife has no interest in any of my hobbies, so we do other things 8O

The geometry is a bit similar to the evil sovereign, great for people with good bike handling skills, but can bite you in the arse if you don’t know how to ride it.

smirk – I’m sure you’ll learn how to ride your new bike, providing you can ride a bike.

IMO – buy what you can afford to buy. Aim to fit quality components, in the vain hope it lasts long enough for you to learn good bike handling skills

IMO – HMS most useful screwgate for climbing.

can you still buy HMS for climbing? I’ve seen them still used in rope access

Don’t often see HMS use in Rope access, Mainly Ds & Ovals. Cheaper as they’re often steel

Southern, middle class English. Received, yet toned down due to fear of ridicule. 15 yrs in yorkshire and no loss of accent. Have the mick taken out of me at work for it? But it always gets heard and things get done as a result.

I don’t have to listen to it so I don’t really mind.
