    Fancy doing this

    http://www.selfsupporteduk.net/routes/Lakeland200.html

Would be a 3 dayer for me I reckon

    It’s a bit wet isn’t it?!

I got out yesterday before the worst of it and did a nice loop, roughly:

    http://www.gpsies.com/map.do;jsessionid=A6A55507BB0C3BE4C7DA06B04F96B330?fileId=gpnmsuvlcuqqgbwd

There looked a great decent which I walked up. Just after Skeleth Bridge, the long climb up the newly tarmaced road and then left onto the bridle way? Well I went up that and had a rather underwhelming decent the other side, whereas the chaps coming the other way looked like they got it the right way round.

Anyway, keen for a ride tomorrow if it drains, or the next day. Hints and tips gratefully received.

    Thread implosion in 5-4-3-2…..

    In no particular order:

    – Got married
    – Broke both my arms
    – Learned not to worry about trying to always go faster (learned this after the above)
    – Ran sub 49 10k
    – Started a new job
    – Realised I’m a bit of wuss in cold weather
    – Ate a really hot curry
    – Installed (read: paid someone to install) a kitchen
    – Realised I hate painting walls more than I hate forking out for someone else to do it for me

For 2015 I’d like to go the Alps with the bike; I’m a MTB loner among my mates, so looking for a group…..

Before I order one, I’m assuming that rear skewer didn’t turn up?

    Thanks,

i couldn’t get a 2.2 rubber queen on the back

How come? I switch between 2.2 mountain kings and a 2.4 minion on the rear

Yea, tis a nice bike. I was thinking of upgrading, but then it works perfectly fine so what’s the point.

Cheers andybrad. Said with such authority I’m going to take the £14 plunge

I also had to turn over pretty sharpish to avoid Top Gear Oaf number 2.

Is the basic conclusion of our fundamental understanding of physics (the building blocks of all science) “Umm, we’re not really sure how it does that”?

    Halfords?

*shudder* yes, well I’d better steel myself.

    Thanks bud.

That’s a might annoying as the rear axle bolt is pretty peculiar on the boardman, so not quite sure where I’m going to find one

Terrahawk – thanks for looking, and that’s a fine question.

    My best description is:
    – Go down the side of the pub
    – Take the first right, up the hill
    – Follow for about 80m
    – There’s a wall (painted white?) on the right
    – Just there

    Any use?

    Good ride tonight fellas.

I left my rear skewer next to where we parked the cars – is anyone local who can have a gander tomorrow morning?

I have grossy overestimated how long it would take me to ride here. Never mind, I’ve got a couple of heckles in on How Great Thou Art already.

I think what I’ve taken away from this is to introduce a feedback threshold to all bidders.

where greed obscures better judgement, and you’ve given them a clue.

I was only ever interested in seeing what their response was – nothing was ever going to change hands.

Thanks – good advise macrusikeen. I’ve mostly obeyed it as well, though I did send out an invoice.

I’ve sent a second chance offer out to the last sensible bidder.

ecksee – also noted, thank you.

Thanks Sporticus – rest assured nothing will happen until I see money nestling securely in my bank account (I’m aware this won’t happen!)

Like you said, fun and games for a bit but I’m happy I won’t get turned over.

Yep, their address is Tiverton, London….

I’ve sent them an invoice to see what happens.

ok, so is the best way to say send my account number and sort code or is that dodgy?

I’m sensible, but a bit of an ebay novice

    eightyeight

Yes – there are two bidders – both joined yesterday.

I’ve blocked them, but there bid is still there. It must only take effect with new sales.

I sent a shitty message saying please confirm it is a genuine bid or i’ll report you to the internet police.

Don’t worry – it’s cash straight into my PayPal account or nothing. (is that the safest thing right?)

He joined ebay yesterday – why would someone do this?

    *looks at floor*

    838km
    48 hours
    10.8k vertical

That’s with a broken arm, so I’ve been off the bike since June. So, in my head I’m doubling that :)

Phillips Park would be nice – would be good to get to know some of the ‘alternative’ riding up there

    Done and done.

I went with the Medium, but now I’m sure whether I’ve made a terrible TERRIBLE mistake. I should have got the Small I tells ya!

Thanks for sorting Binners, nice touch on the Mountain Rescue

Not that I need any extra dweeb identification aids, but count be in!

First pootle out today, and arms and wrists felt great. I can’t wait to find out just how much fitness I’ve lost (spoiler: All of it).

Will hopefully make a MNPR soon.

Somewhere around Yate or Chipping Sodbury means you can just ride out the door and be hitting the hills of the Cotswolds

Being a born and bred Chipping Sod I wouldn’t call it a village. Yate and Sodbury sort of merge together to form a massive suburban sprawl; it even has a capital, they call it ‘Tesco’.

I joke (sort of). It’s c.17 miles to Bristol so a bit far out, but the riding is not too bad – up into Horton, Hawkbury, Westonbirt etc.

Having lived all over Bristol my advice would be to move somewhere cheap but relatively central – Southville maybe (I know, completely contrary to what the OP said), take a short 3 month lease and get your bearings a bit. Ride out on the weekend and establish a circumference and then go from there.

    Good luck!

Super, I’m up from the 18th to the 27/28th, staying in a self-catering lodge next to Wainwrights (if you know it), will drop you an e-mail nearer the time.

I’ll take this opportunity to re-iterate my fitness levels may not be what they should, but anything between 20km – 35km (at a push – literally) will be fine I reckon.

Probably worth doing nearer the time, but like I said, if anyone fancies showing me around let me know.

Hausbar is top of Whiteladies, isn’t it

Quite right. I have no idea why I wrote Gloucester Road. It’s the least Gloucester Road bar in the world.

The “triangle” is at the top of Park Street (the bottom of Park Street being the Cathedral / council building). Turn left at the top and you’ll be faced with the “point” – an STA travel shop if memory serves

GrahamS – Thanks a lot. I actually went to LdA three years ago on my first ever ski trip (I came to it quite late).

I absolutely loved skiing, so have great memories of my first time – even when my mate dumped me and the top of a red run and shot off! I really liked the little ski-cross course they had near the top as well.

To be honest not sure I’ll get away this year – I’ll just live vicariously through this thread. More pictures please!

Might do the ol’ Crystal Ski to Les Deux Alps. Pretty basic, but the snow’s just as cold as everywhere else!

If she sticks to the harbourside, Corn St area she should have a good time.

*Disagreeing Klaxon* Corn Street gets pretty grimy of an evening and the harbourside is somewhere I would actively avoid at night. That’s where the all the nut buses drop off from the local towns (I should know, I was once on them….). There are a few decent bars down there (Start the Bus) but they’re tucked away.

I would advise top of Park Street / the Triangle. The Woods, Goldbrick House, Manos even Browns are all good for starters and then as someone mentioned above Bunker is ok and I was always a fan of Po Na Nas.

There was a really good D&B club if you turn right at the top of Park Street, but I think that’s gone now / poss one to avoid.

There’s a growing number of discreet cocktail bars in Bristol where its advisable to ring ahead to book a table which might appeal as a pre-club venue: Milk Thistle, Hyde and Co, Hausbar, and the Rummer to name some of the best.

Agree. Though Hausbar is at the top of Gloucester Road so a bit out of the way if you settle on the Triangle – Hyde and Co would be the one to go for.

When I was younger I once convinced a friend I met camping that I could only see in black and white, and that my whole life was like a Charlie Chaplin film.

Matching ties for me, given that blue and purple ARE THE SAME COLOUR

Booked already. 19 people filling a catered ski-in / ski-out chalet in Les Manures (Reberty) with Sauna and Hot Tub. Manchester flights, ski carriage all round, full 3Valleys lift pass, all for under £800 a head.

nbt – can I ask where you got this? Looking for something similar

ISAs no longer exist, they’re all New ISAs now (NISA).

Thanks footflaps, I’m not sure people would have realised what I was on about….

The only thing I’d add is that for people whose employers are not matching their contribution they may want to consider putting their dough in a ISA

With the recent increase in cash ISA limits combined with the fact there will be no pension fund ‘management fees’ and the flexibility – the cash is your cash, you don’t have to buy an annuity and you’re not limited by the amount you can take as a lump sum on retirement.

I would say consult an IFA for sound financial advice, but there all on the take so don’t bother.
