Good work on the Snakes & Ladders WW. I had a giggle, but only got side eye from the Mrs. while watching Death in Paradise.

I’m afraid I’m in that London so won’t make it.

If everyone added to that MTBtrails.info site it would be a fantastic resource!

Cheers chaps, makes being bound to the desk slightly more bearable.

I have now been able to purge my feed of macaroons, expensive pish coffee and girls on their tip toes.

njee20 – thanks for your input, and I agree with the sentiment. Similar to the old saying “It’s worth what someone will pay for it”.

TBH, 400 wasn’t a million miles off. The chap wanted £800 and I’ve offered £650. It comes with a few bits, so I’m happy.

I buy bikes so infrequently (tend to ride things into the ground) that I get a bit nervous when I do actually come to shelling out dough.

It’s all 2013, but I take your point.

Though I don’t think it was “utterly pointless”.

    Thanks for the input chaps.

Sorry should have said it’s a scandal, not an inbred. All in decent nick.

Oh. That may have burst my bubble somewhat. I thought the forks alone were worth half that….

    Whats yours then?

For obvious reason, SW also gets a good follow!

I was out for c. 6 months with a broken arm and these are the perfect way to get back into riding. Not too fast, but you’re with others so you try and push yourself a little – great for getting the fitness back

Yea, if I had my thinking cap on I would have made my username the same as well. Y’know, consistent branding innit 8)

I’d be interested to hear what people include in a first aid kit?

Does anyone record the route on Strava or similar

    I do.

(I cycled out from the city centre, so that has probably increased the average speed)

not all round seat posts should be clamped – eg dropper posts

    vs.

As long as you clamp on the part that goes into a frame – I can’t see a problem with it […]

As for whether it can handle it, I’d have thought the force going through the post will be significantly less than that from riding

What do people who have a reverb post do?

Good ride, thanks for leading Harry.

Were there more jumps after the red descent?

Also, I got my t-shirt thanks Binners!

I was joking. I thought the ‘robotically follow’ would be an indication of sarcasm….

If I don’t know the area I take an OS map out, if I do, I don’t.

I’m always aggressively polite toward walkers. You never know when we might need them in an apocalyptic war against, oh I don’t know, OFF ROAD SEGWAYS. Also, I’m sure the concern was genuine which is always something to be respected.

Helvellyn is one of my ’12 months / 12 mountains’ 2015 resolution thingies, so on the look out for a GPX file I can download and robotically follow, anyone?

I had a bit of incident this weekend. Around half way round a route I had never ridden before in the Peaks my chain snapped. Unfortunately, my fingers were just too cold and I couldn’t fix it on the spot. Even though it was only around midday, I was on my own, unsure what the rest of route had in store (other than from the map) and increasingly cold from the snow and the aborted attempt at fixing the chain.

In the end, I layered up, smashed down a tuna sarnie and decided the best and safest course was to retrace my route back to my start point.

Annoying more than anything and unlikely to cause me any real issues. But still, these things have a habit of escalating.

I would usually do it in 3/4 shorts at most

    +1

Always pack a pair of thermals (top and bottom), but I’ve never been cold enough to use them. 3/4 and knee pads are fine for me, even in the ridiculously cold winter we had in 2012. What do other people wear, MTB trousers?!

    *Spoiler Alert*

The main guy doing the walk was joined by two experienced journalists – one American, one Brit.

After two days they were forced slightly away from the river onto grassland. With temperatures reaching 42 the US journo got into some trouble with heat stroke. Isolated and 3 miles from a water source, the man tragically died. This was in the space of around 2-3 hours.

That was a tragic turn of events. 40 is no age at all.

Reminded me just how dangerous weather / conditions can be.

I’m familiar with the state of northern trains, I just wondered if they’re going to ruin my day in a whole other way.

Nope it’s tomorrow, rain or shine!

Will hopefully be able to make it, especially if it’s Prestwich.

Need to get my rear brake fixed though. As with most things I try to fix myself, I’ve gone and made it worse.

    Viewranger for me.

If I’m heading out on my own I upload my routes on to it and give it to the Mrs in case of an emergency.

Pretty unwieldy, but the best of the bunch IMO

    NW indeed chakaping.

I still think 29ers look a little silly, but just try buying a 26 anything at the mo. I think the 650b is a nice in between.

I quite like the look of the Zero 3. I’ll have to wait and see what the bank account says once Xmas has completely washed through.

I used a plastic car scraper in the end and worked a treat.

They’re avid elixr 7 (i think) so it does have a reach adjustor. When you turn the rubber connector between the hose and the lever blade is that the bit adjusting the contact?

    eightyeight

Ah, great stuff I’ll give that a go.

I just hope I haven’t done a damage messing about with the levers.

The 3rd is very similar to the 2nd (the 1st half is identical). It just takes in what I hope is a slightly better decent into Little Langdale
