Didn’t think it would take long….
    http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1253671/

I really don’t understand why someone would sell something 8 weeks after buying it!

Scardeypants – That’s what did it for me in the end. The pics were from a suspicious angle, i.e. not showing the crankside. Also the lack of a reverb saddle. (also appreciate the ‘coffin’ pun)

Fevour, jota – Thank you. Both things to sooth me asleep this weekend.

    Chris – Not helping :D

They’re on sale at CRC as well, but only have smalls left.

Just have to wait until people with more money that me get the 2013 model (which is unlikely to be ‘all new’)!

    Are the entries open yet?

I’ve clicked on ‘Purchase ticket’ which takes me to the BC website where I can’t find it on the calendar of events. :?

I think the real vs. trail centre debate is a bit disingenuous.

If I have 2-3 hours on a Saturday afternoon and haven’t had to time to prep a proper route why wouldn’t I jump in the car for a quick whizz round Gisburn?! (which I think has some fantastic bits on, btw).

Think there’s a bit of snobbery with trail centres. If you ride them somehow you are not ‘in the know’, or not a real cyclist. Which is nonsense.

Actually…. I think we’re overdue a Rammy Turbines, Quarries and Brewery ride! Anyone interested

Very keen. All I do (given my lack of local knoweledge) is the Lee Quarry loop – I don’t even know where the link road to Cragg is! Would great to get to know it a bit better.

Though I agree, let’s wait until after HTN 8O

Thanks Doug. I will give that a detailed read when i leave my slave station desk.

The price comparison I made was slighly erroneous, as Great Rock is two days, and Tom Dowie is 2 hours.

Don’t suppose you know when Nigel is planning another course (the one in Feb is fully booked)?

I’m looking at doing this course with Nigel Page sometime soon (the next one is fully booked unfortunately). Anyone done this?

    http://www.great-rock.co.uk/courses/more-advanced/nigel-page/

Though Tom Dowie ‘Jumps and Drops’ certainly looks cheaper. Only thing is it’s a slightly longer drive from Manchester!

I’ve heard they’re builing a cafe and may well charge for parking.

Tbh, I would happily pay a few quid each time if it helps keep the trail in decent nick / helps build new runs.

To paraphrase Mike Skinner ‘A rideable-well-kept-trail-within-20-mins-of-Manchester don’t come for free’

Great, hopefully that means I can afford the 800 now :-)

Second what’s been said already. When wet the climbs are a bit harder, and there are a few puddles but it generally drains well.

I park at the bottom of Lee Quarry (next to the council building?).

Made me laugh Wiggo going in the pub – he’s not been in there for years!

He does cultivate his “anti-celebrity” image very well – but don’t believe everything you see.

That’s funny, I saw him in there, oooooh, not three weeks ago.

    Thanks Julians!

Theres a couple of routes down from the antenna’s on the hill next to the one that the cable car goes up, but its a hell of a climb

Are you referring to Sierra Bermeja there?

Sounds great – the enduro calendar is filling up nicely for next year!

Bit of a trek from Manchester, but will stay with the sis in Chichester, I’m in.

Can we have a secret ‘I’m a bit crap’ code? Like tying a yellow lace round our arms – that way I can see who i’m really racing!

Tyres – If it’s wet a minnion and a highroller, if it’s dry moutain king 2.2s. Standard.

I’ve used viewfinder and I didn’t manage to upload GPX files onto it. Probably a user error on my part, but all leads me to getting a garmin 800…

Just have to wait to see what father xmas brings me.

I can’t see that pic Harry, but I can only imagine it’s a picture of me shaking like a shi*ing dog?

Did both my collar bones in mid-November, so HTN might be the firest time I jump on my bike again! Joy!

I might try that MotionX. Will it be able to use GPX files (i.e. will I finally be able to use the trail guides on STW on my i-phone?)

Not the road bike, bring any mountain bike and a sense of humour

Don’t worry, i’ll have that in abundance. Nothing funnier than pretending you don’t care you’re last. A hoot!

… whatever the conditions you’ll die on a road bike

Ha! That’s the end of that idea then.

I know this might seem like a list of the least appropriate bikes, but I’ve got a mate who will lend me a Surly Long Haul Trucker…? No…ok.

MTB it is – thanks all

    +1 for Manchester.

I’m originally from the South West (which probably puts up a better fight than Hampshire), but Manchester wins out on variety – the peaks, lakes, Bowland, N. Wales etc.

Though you’d be absolutely screwed without a car IMO (v. frustrating when I first moved up).

Oh, and a quick ‘big up’ (or similarly contemporary call of encouragement and thanks) to the guys at Gisburn. Some lovely lines being built at the moment :D

Thanks large. I am in no way an IT person (evidenced by my shocking link attempt above).

I’ll hit the classifieds with a request.

    Hey guys,

    Thanks for the comments.

I don’t think i’ve got referral code, i just copied the URL on the top of the screen! Sorry if i broke any rules :?

I think i’m going to stick main stream with the garmin, hopefully pick one up second hand.

    Happy riding

Would it be worth going to Aston with something all mountain (thinking Zesty / Boardman FS) or do you really need a full DH rig?

    Good reality check Freeride.

I’m thinking if I was going to apply (and got a place), I would concentrate on the sort of terrain you mentioned. Perhaps getting together with some other entrants for a couple of 3/4 day highland trips.

While I would not be foolish enough to assume this would make me some sort of remote riding expert, would you say it would be suitable preparation?

Bet your wishing you never got involved in this thread…. 8O

    Thanks Ali.

Couple of questions if that’s ok:
    1. Will there definetely be a full accomodation option?
    2. What bike(s) would you say the route is [/i]ideally desinged for?
    3. When do the entries open? – I’m abroad from the 28th of Nov and wouldn’t want to miss out

I think I actually prefer the layout of this to TP. Obviously, it’s not going to be as smooth as something that’s been running a few years. But I’m willing to be a guinea pig!

I’m thinking of trying to fund a project producing an illustrated decision tree for “What tyre?”.

It will be 900 pages long.

Apologies, it has in fact finished.

But with Kickstarter UK launching today, there will be a lot more micro projects like this kicking around (new bikes, documentary, accessories, etc). So worth keeping an eye on.
