Still on the lookout for a mega and spotted this
    http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1271499/

I know it’s nothing special, but you usually can only just get the frame for £600-700, or am I missing something?

Thanks Lord Felcham for re-starting this, was beginning to think it was something I said….

    Thanks for all your responses.

Just debating with myself whether to stay somewhere in Afan, or stay with the ‘rents in Bristol and ‘commute’ from there? I should probably say now, I’m a complete wuss and don’t really want to camp.

Other than Afan I will be driving from Manc, so if anyone wants to split the petrol (Inners especially) let me know.

Might see a few of you at HTN in a couple of week :D

    Hey Nick!
You’re more than welcome to join me for a ride. Me and my housemate (also a relative beginner) tend to ride Gisburn, Philips Park, Llandeglla or Lee Quarry. More than happy to give a lift. Email in profile.

Keep meaning to get along to Marple with people on her, but a bit shy

Excellent excuse to get back to the South West. Here’s Katy Curd and Jake Ireland tearing it a new one….

Thanks for all taking the time to reply. I’ve had a good think about the fact I want cadence and HR and realised…. stuff it I’m getting a garmin.

As my mum always said, I was trying to be too clever by half

looking at information on the internet suggests that a 120mm travel bike is a good all-rounder, so likely to be suited to my needs the best. I’d prefer to get a bike like this as I won’t know what the trails are like everywhere I go.

Given you won’t know what the trails will be like everywhere, may I be so bold to suggest you might be better of with more travel? You can always lock out for more XC stuff, while maintaining the ability to ride those Spanish hills your so keen on

    Best thread in ages….

OP, good luck in your new bike hunt. I don’t want to get drawn into this ‘£2k’ argument, but so you’ve got another bit of info, I bought a boardman FS pro a year ago and it has suited me perfectly on a variety of UK terrain. I’ve ridden it (often literally) into the ground and now feel suitably tooled up to go and buy something a bit beef-ier to suit the riding I like (DH style all-mountain with some big jumps and drops thown in). I’m not saying that’s the right way, it’s just the way I did it.

Whatever you get, enjoy it and post a picture :D

Geetee – Great, I’ve read review on the stuff he did up Gisburn with Great Rock, so pretty sure it’s just what I’m looking for. I’m fairly flexible on dates. I was thinking early April, though need to check my calendar (and I’m sure Nigel has a few committments…).

Drop me an e-mail and hopefully we can sort something out.

I like Gisburn – some nice new bits added recently. And you’ve got the amazing chilli at the Dog and Partridge :D

Lee Quarry – Always find this a bit of slog, but a good local facility

Grizedale – Agree with Adrec. Also the new(ish) black section is a good one to session for jumping

Llandegla – Only been once, but loved it!

To be honest if I managed to get anywhere for a day’s riding I’m happy. Went to Philips Park on Saturday and loved that, so maybe I’m just easily pleased…

I can confirm that Pete the Feet has danced his way in and stole the show! Problem resolved :D There was some sort of blame game between Iglu and Neison, which I care about even less than I understand, but all in all a good result.

Pete even offered to remain on hand should we need any help with our insurance claim. So top marks Pete.

Thanks to everyone else for their help!

Peteriglue – Thank you very much for taking the time to register and reply.

Mrs.88 will be ringing you shortly.

Hopefully this can be resolved, as it has caused her (and me) a fair bit of stress (on top of a broken leg and not being able to go skiing).

Everyone else – thanks for your comments. I’ll let you know how things go!

Thanks guys, I will copy and pasting a lot of the above points into an E-mail of Scorn this evening. I will let you know how I get on.

It’s a shame, because I’d previously heard very good things about Neilson. But now they’ve got 10 people who go on 2+ trips a year who will never book with them again.

Not that I’m bitter (!) but I hope Thomas Cook’s share tank (even more so)

Or maybe they thing you are wanting a refund – that sounds like what it must be – or a confused agent who has read/calculated the fee but missed the refund bit

Suspect it is a very confused agent, but still very frustrating

Maybe an ‘admin’ fee for preparing the cancellation doc and the bookwork associated

Yea I was expecting an extortionate charge like £25 not £225!

@Legend – she def can’t fly, the doctor has told her already so not a problem with that end

The holiday is full board, with flights, ski-pass and ski hire already paid. So (and not that this would make it fair) they’re not exactly missing out on upselling!

    take me take me

Ha- you’d have to share a room with me!

    [/quote]Dear Sarah,

    Yes, just to clarify:

There will be no refund on the price of the holiday due to the proximity of the departure date.

There will be an additional £224 added to the booking as an empty bed supplement as there is now 1 bed not being filled.

    Kind regards,
    Lucy

Well this is coming second hand through e-mail from Mrs.88, but she has spoken to three people at they have all confirmed that there is no refund PLUS the cancellation fee of £225!

She has asked for an exact breakdown of that £225 – which obviously won’t exist, or will be covered by thr £500+ we paid for the holiday.

It’s just absolutely insane. Is this the level of anger needed to read the Daily Mail? Beause I think I’m there!

Yea should have included the link really (it’s that kind of attention to detail i’d bring to the table)….

I would have assumed it would only be for a fixed period of time, and then if it goes well you get running extentions. Stops people getting complacent I guess.

    Hey Alex,

Personally I would be more concerned about improving technique and having bindings that release correctly

Wearing a helmet and having correct bindings aren’t mutually exclusive. Wearing a helmet won’t stop you having correct bindings. So why not have both?

You’re very lucky not having any head injuries. I cycle a lot and have never fallen on my head, but I still wear a helmet.

(the last bit is a lie. I superman over my bars everyweek :D )

Thanks Northwind. Call it infation but I can’t find one for less than £25, might give the cheapo e-bay one a whirl.

I’ll be using it for a road bike as well, so want to get up past the 40psi mark!

    Not just sensible, but essential.

Only takes an ice ball or some idiot (like me) to take you out and you’d be in serious trouble without one.

Some (though I only know of one) insurance companies are starting to make it mandatory
