Single-speeding a rear wheel, put a stack of spacers on the freehub, tightened up the lock ring, realised I hadn’t put the cog on.  Thank goodness for mole grips.

I tried to run 1×9 with a 1x non nw ring and non clutch mech and the chain dropped a lot so I wouldn’t recommend it. A small front chain guide could be a cheaper option.

I’ll be cheering on all the Brits, Greenland in particular as he’s from Bristol and he’s amazing to watch.  His Val Di Sole World Champs run was incredible.  So wild.  I don’t think there’s an unlikable character in DH at the moment so I just hope for a great race.  Maes is incredible so I think he’ll do well, Brook Macdonald deserves a decent result and is always great to watch.  Gwin deserves a medal just for that crazy scrub at La Bresse.  Any of the Syndicate guys are a threat, Brosnan, Hart, Pierron, Bruni, it’s a stacked list this year.

I hope Thanee gets the win in the women’s.  Atherton is amazing but it would be nice to see someone else step up and Seagrave likely would have won the World Cup overall if it weren’t for the DQ at Leogang.

Shame RX don’t have small frames in the ones I want.

They’re playing at Arctangent festival next weekend. Awful name for a band though.

Does everything I need it to. Fits pretty well and holds enough for a decent length ride.

My only Mtb is a 29er hardtail with 120mm forks. I’m pretty short and it fits fine and it’s good in the tech stuff I like riding. However, if I wanted something with more travel I’d choose 27.5 wheels as the stack height would be too high on a longer travel 29er.  I think there’s room for both wheel sizes in the market. Maybe more companies will be making frames that fit both, like the new Kona Operator.

I’m only 5ft 7″ and ride a medium Chameleon in 29er mode and it fits perfectly. At 6ft 3″ it would like like a kids bike for you.

Pantera. Killer band, great front man who’s also something of a bellend.

Just got a new bike with Spyres and I’m struggling to get them to bite.  Probably just a matter of decent set up and bedding in but any tips would be appreciated.  First time with cable discs here.

It’ll be fine.  I’ve just put a road cassette on my commuter twinned with a Deore shifter and mech.  No problems at all.

I used a non boost chainset with an extra spacer on the drive side. Works fine.

I like the way they put out messages on radio/social media so everyone can tip them off about the people they’ve seen being followed around by a camera crew. Very realistic.

I’m using an old, non-boost SLX chainset and 32t ring.  Works fine with an extra spacer on the drive side to bump the chainline across a bit.  The chainring fouls the frame without it.  This is a round ring though, not sure how oval would work.

Re. sizing.  I’m 5ft 7″ and the medium fits me perfectly.  I’m running a 40mm stem but could stretch to 50mm without a problem.

I’m off to the niche fest that is Arctangent. Glassjaw and Shellac headlining and a smattering of other awesomeness from Vennart, Alpha Male Tea Party and many more.

I see CRC are now using myhermes.  Paid for next day shipping, it’s nowhere to be seen.  Tracking simply says Order Placed.  CRC has gone to poo since the Wiggle takeover.

I had a manager that rang in saying he couldn’t come to work as he’d been bitten by a mouse.  He rang back the next day saying that he couldn’t come in as he couldn’t sleep as he was scared the mouse would come back.

Another guy at the same place claimed he had genital warts.  Pretty sure no one wanted to check that one.

All bottom brackets being BSA. I was looking forward to that. Down with that European press fit nonsense.

I was given IV ketamine in hospital for pain relief post surgery. I was screaming in agony and morphine wasn’t doing anything so it was a last resort. From extreme pain to tripping with the fairies in a matter of seconds followed by several very confusing and entertaining hours of hallucinations. Christ knows why you’d take it recreationally or outside of a hospital.

I built a 29er Chameleon ain’t 120mm forks and I love it. Feels great fun to ride, very good geometry and tweakable on chainstay length. Not the most spritely climber but it’s a hoot through the single-track and steep stuff I ride.

My stem is slammed with 15mm of spacers on top. I haven’t died yet. Unless you’re entirely sure about the height of the front end then I wouldn’t cut it fully until you’re done fettling.

I’m not desperately worried about the dropper so much as curious how much it would keep off in general. I like riding in the winter and have never thought about mudguard until recently but bought an Enduroguard for the front to keep some of the filth out of my eyes and wondered if it would do much on the rear.

So how much flex can you feel in a 40mm stem?

    This ^.

40mm Brand X on my bike. Works just fine and cost about £15. There are many better places to spend a bit extra on, e.g. shifters/rear mech or decent compound tyres.

Shimano gears (except chains, SRAM or KMC on that front)
    Charge Spoon saddles (for MTB/commute)
    Decathlon base layers
    Specialized helmets
    Specialized or 5.10 shoes

Clothing is based on fit/value, saddles for obvious subjective reasons, Shimano stuff on the basis that it just keeps working (except the chains, which are made of cheese and, until recently, didn’t have a split link)

However, as someone who hasn’t been in debt for years or ever claimed a penny in benefit the thought of being £55,000 in the red absolutely terrifies me.

+1. I’d love to go back to education but the costs are completely off putting. The way I see it is that a skilled work force bringing in more tax revenues for the government will be of greater benefit for the country in the long run than having a lot of unfulfilled potential on low wages.

you said council jobsworths so for that you should pay the fine. suck it up buttercup

It’s pretty jobsworthy and he works for the council. Seems apt. It was in no way meant to denigrate the efforts of all our public servants. Until last year I was one of their number and understand that they get a lot of unnecessary crap from all sides.
