some very strange placings for the Syndicate boys

Ratboy was running top 6 in the first three sections then had a bit of a moment in the last by the looks of it.

I’d start at the suspension bridge (bus up from Temple Meads station or the centre), mooch round Clifton village, down to Brandon Hill and up Cabot tower (amazing views from the top), wander down Park St, then stroll round the harbourside and get drinks / food from one of the many bars and restaurants.

Bristol is a lovely place! (Other than the traffic and standard of driving..).
^ This, but get lunch in St Nick’s Market.

My longest commute is a lumpy 11.5km but I extend the return journey to 25-40km to get some riding in and avoid the central traffic nonsense. Some days you just want to carry on riding, others you think ‘this was a daft idea’ as you get home sopping wet and miserable.

Off to see Richard Herring in Bristol. He’s a good mix of smart funny and puerile silliness. Doug Stanhope great as well; very close to the bone some times.

I think the irony is that Wrecker is complaining about someone who actively encourages the free use of public space…

I think the irony is that there are some poor misguided souls that believe the mayors hype that he’s some kind of socially responsible enlightened individual. He is in fact a rampant capitalist and member of the merchant venturers (only suspended during his term as mayor) whose old boys network has benefitted hugely during his term. Looked at the docks sale?
No doubt that SG parish are “tinpot” but better than than common thieves.

I’m not sure anyone has claimed that road disc brakes will make you faster, just that they’ll slow you down more reliably. Did you see the number of crashed at the Lourdes DH World cup on the weekend? I wonder how many disc brake injuries there were with bikes cartwheeling on top of riders so frequently?

As suggested above, MTB wise it’s Ashton Court/Leigh Woods. Both rideable from Filton. There’s some decent road riding North of Bristol if that’s an option.

The Portcullis is the best pub in the area by a mile, such good beer. Leave the bikes on the upper tier and you can watch them from the window. Never had any trouble with scrotes.

The best thing about this is that it’ll make 10sp stuff even cheaper.

EDIT, scratch that, it’s the only good thing about it.

Whoever you bought it from, assuming it’s still in warranty. Mine went back to Chainreaction for the same thing and they’re sending me a replacement.

That Last Night on Earth Mix is ace, cheers for the heads up on that.

For innovative mixes, albeit much more on a techno tip, the Richie Hawtin DE9 mixes are incredible. DE9 Transitions has ~500 tracks chopped up into one mix!

5ft 7″ and ride a small. I’d probably go for a medium of I were to buy again. Still love the bike though.

Send no Flowers did a decent job repping the UK grunge thing. Kerbdog for the Irish angle. Soundgarden need to be mentioned.

I used to have an Overburys Pioneer, lovely bike. Someone in Africa is now riding around on a one-of-a-kind bike handbuilt in Bristol after my parent donated it to charity. That thought makes me happy.

Back on topic, as suggested above Argos will do the trick.

The first Involver was amazing, the second was meh, the third is decent but hardly life altering.

I’ve got fairly wide, flat feet and Specialized shoes fit me really well. The lower end ones I have are the opposite of weather proof though.

Sounds like dehydration to me. Make sure you’re well hydrated before you start the race rather than playing catch up whilst riding.

Rather than adding polenta or semolina to the stone before cooking I add it into the dough when making it. It gives it a better, crisper texture and doesn’t disintegrate when wet.

Pre heat oven with the pizza stone in, roll out the dough as thin as you can get it then blind bake it on the stone for a few min until it starts to get bubbly. Then you can top it and bake again for 10-15min. Top of the oven, gas mark 7.

Looks bigger than the Bath ales set up (which is actually in Bristol and by no means small)

technically it’s in Warmley, South Gloucestershire, though it has a Bristol postcode.

I pondered out loud the idea of a new, disc brake, winter road bike the other day whilst chatting with my girlfriend. The conversation went from “you don’t need another bike” to “but of it makes you happy though you should go for it” and ended up with me talking myself out of it. I think I got stung by some reverse psychology or jedi mind tricks.

Mine has just been posted to CRC today for the same sagging reason. Reverbs are great when they work. Unfortunately they seem to need the more care and attention than a small child.

With regards to the deliberation thing, we went through all the key evidence and arguments and discussed in detail how relevant we thought it was. Two and a half days it took but we came to a unanimous not guilty charge. Everyone took it as seriously as you’d hope. There is still some hope for society and justice.

I had a really interesting case that lasted about 3.5 weeks including 2.5 days of deliberation. A guy accused of money laundering, selling planes to drug traffickers. It was great and now I know all about why certain planes are better for drug running than others should I pursue that line of employment (I’m not planning to, seems far too much like hard work). There’s a fair amount of sitting around involved so take a good book, but plenty of getting sent home early as well so you could well be getting plenty of time to ride. I gather that most experiences weren’t as interesting as mine though.

It looks pants to me. Can’t they remaster just leave the original and just re-release it? alone as it’s a classic and needs nothing doing to it

I replaced my mtb rear rim and rebuilt it myself for the first time recently. Just used to zip ties, a set of calipers and the frame to true and dish it. It’s pretty satisfying and interesting doing it yourself so I’d recommend at least trying it. So far it’s lasted several rides including a trip to Cwmcarn without crumpling underneath me or going out of true. The Musson book is worth getting your hands on.

I hated Rome, found it to be the most hateful place I’ve been since London. Prague, Budapest, Valencia, Stockholm, Bergen, Oslo, Vienna, Berlin are all very nice. Bath Spa is pretty great with a lady friend.
