Now everyone knows that you shouldn’t use ketamine intravenously right? cos it will kill you stone dead

Err, I’ve had it IV twice and I’m alive to tell the tale. This was in a hospital though. It’s a hell of a pain killer and taken IV you go from screaming agony to tripping in a matter of seconds. I was very entertaining for several hours after that, rambling about hell mouths, badgers vs racoons, dwarf airports and a variety of other things that no one else could see.

The oddest thing I’ve ever seen was North Korean children in Pyongyang ‘protesting’ about how much they liked one of Kim Jong Un’s new flagship policies. North Korea is a strange place, well worth a visit.

I rather like her, good production, interesting lyrics although it took me a while to appreciate her delivery. Much better than a lot of the dreary indie stuff 6Music peddles.

I live not far from Lawrence Hill, it’s really not that bad. The worst bits of the city are on the outskirts and you’d never really need to go there if you don’t have to. Lawrence Weston, Henbury, Hartcliffe, Southmead are a bit grim. Clifton and the other posh bits aren’t for me, though the Portcullis in Clifton I’d a cracking pub.

All thunder storms are directly overhead, i.e the thunder strikes at exactly the same time as the lightning.

I hated them. A pair of vaseline coated eels would have gripped better. I hated Nobby Nics as well though. Trails Kings are, however, possibly the best tyres I’ve ever ridden, though a little draggy.

I much prefer Bristol over Bath but it’s as much a matter of taste than anything else. Dependent on you budget, whether you have a family and whether you want doorstep access to culture and city life, it’s worth looking at the towns and villages between Bath and Bristol. Places like Saltford are pretty bland but you have access to the country roads on your doorstep and you’ll get more house for you cash; though not much more as the house prices/rents here are all barking mad. If you’re flush with cash there’s all manner of nice old barn conversions around Bath.

Road riding to both the north and south of Bath and Bristol is great. Plenty of quiet roads, decent hills and variable routes. MTB wise, Bristol is better as there are trails close to the centre and you have better access to the Mendips, south Wales etc. As mentioned above, commuting from one to the other for work every day will drive you nuts.

No he doesn’t. He had another person tweet updates during his attack, obviously he couldn’t pull over to tweet. All tweets that were sent whist not attacking the bunch are written in the first person.

Getting someone to live tweet your sportive position is even worse

I went there last year. Hired a bike in the town, rode it to the trailhead of Half Nelson, got about 500m down and crashed destroying my knee cap in the process. Other than that, it was great! What I saw of it was beautiful.

Ti Stanton Switchback, simple, beautiful hardtail with modern geometry. Will be a better bike than my riding will ever deserve though.

maybe worth telling the Mrs how you feel. She may be ignorant of your feelings….

Equally she may feel the same way. I doubt very much that she’s blissfully ignorant of there being problems. My partner is pretty aware when I’m not in a good place and is fairly vocal when she’s not. Communication is so important in relationships. We’ve been able to talk things over and come to agreements and compromise that keep us both happy. It is possible to turn things around when all seems a bit bleak in your relationship; walking away should be a last resort.

Ohh, and don’t believe the hype about getting ‘proper’ running shoes fitted with gait analysis and all that rubbish – just ensure you have a nice comfortable pair of decent running shoes.

Getting properly fitted running shoes made a big, positive difference for my shonky knee. Definitely worth it if you’re having pains or problems.

Got a Lezyne Road Drive that I really like. The pump is so good I’ve never bothered with the co2 but when out on the road. If you’re using co2 with tubeless be wary as it can turn the sealant into an ill shaped bouncy ball.

I’ve ridden the climb, took me about 44min, but not done the event. The switchbacks at the bottom are tough but the hardest bit is the straighter stuff at the top as it doesn’t feel like you’re getting anywhere.

How much is a typical bike fit?

    £80-£90 if I recall correctly.

Yep, well worth a visit. I used BW Cycling in Bristol and was happy I did. Spent a few hours with a former MTB pro (Oli Beckinsale) making tiny tweaks until everything was spot on. It ironed out the minor niggles I was having when riding longer distances. It can be dangerous though as I ended up going back a few months later and buying a new bike, which was also set up as meticulously for me.

After knee surgery last year I had grand plans of learning Japanese during the lay off. Instead I spent most of the time in a daze, doped up to the gills on Tramadol or Oxycodone. I did learn how to bake a pretty decent loaf of bread once I was off the drugs though. So baking is a pretty good option.

I’d pay the license fee just for Radio 4, 5, 6 and the World Service. They should just introduce a log in for iPlayer based on your license number and a password. It’s not hard.

Hermes is great. Link your eBay account and it will automatically pull in your sales and the addresses.

That’s useful to know. I can suck up a few quid difference just for the ease of not having to race home from work only to find the post office has inexplicably closed early. I forgot about ebay sellers changes.

use gumtree and sell it locally?

Every time I use gumtree I end up with 95% of inquiries string me along for a few emails then saying “can you post it to Malaysia?” or “I can offer you 50% less than the asking price.” Both get short shrift for wasting my time.

Have any phantom smearers ever been caught? We had one in a place I worked at years ago who was never apprehended and that seems to be the case everywhere. You’d think it’d be the case of just finding the bloke who smelt a bit pooey but it’s apparently a lot harder than that.

In and out in less than a minute, no messing about. Shame they’ve just cancelled their European tour though.

Today’s stage was a bit of a damp squib but the tour on the whole has been great. Sure Froome and Sky bossed it but the number of incidents, battles for 2nd-10th and the sheer number of times Pantano attacked (chapeau that man) made it very entertaining.

Is it just an attempt to mix chalk and cheese?

Try putting a few tablespoons of olive oil into the mix. Also, adding chopped olives and sundried tomatoes into a regular white loaf can be lush. The amount you knead makes a difference as well. If you don’t knead enough and the dough will collapse under its own weight and give a denser texture. It’s a bit of an art knowing when the dough is perfect to leave to prove.

I have an extremely high tolerance to morphine so it has very little effect on me. After surgery last year they had to give me IV ketamine to help with the pain. That was an interesting experience.

Took me five hours for the my only wheel build to date (29er MTB rear wheel). I was very cautious and trued/dished it in the frame rather than a jig. It’s still round and true, there was no pinging on first rides and none of the spokes have come loose though so I must’ve done something right. Superstar Tesla Evo hub, WTB i23 rim and DT Swiss Rev spokes.

Black chilli protection 2.2 Trail Kings are the best tyre I’ve ever used. Nicely predictable when cornering and plenty of traction when climbing. I get on with them very well and, despite the high price, would recommend them highly.

Yep, done on a bike but not in the way you’ve experienced. I grounded a pedal on a corner, which bucked the saddle into my sit bone. Extremely painful. Discomfort, not being able to sit happily lasted for about 3-4 weeks. No lasting effects thankfully.

Can get down fully on my left leg, though getting up is a little trickier as my balance is terrible. Right leg is nowhere near as good due to a massive knee injury last year but is, according to my physio, better than most.

    Arguments?

    Strange people with sharing/trust issues…..

Nope, just appreciate the simplicity. Never occurred to either of us that we should/need to pool all money.
