How were the bikes pinched? I.e. in a shed locked up/left unattended in your garden for example? I hope your insured. Its happened to me twice when they were chained to the ground in the shed I have. I keep them in the house now.

Be aware of them coming back for a second attempt when they think the insurance may have paid out and you have shiny new bikes.

Sorry for your loss, its sickening.

    Here’s a pic of my Tracer 2 :-)

I used to own an Orange 5, but then i realised they sucked (my opinion) and instead I brought a Tracer 2, relatively recently.

In my opinion, Orange bikes are so expensive for what they are. They are old technology at new tech prices. And because they are a single pivot they suffer pedal feedback and brake jack. I haven’t ridden an Apline but i would guess it is quite similar. What also puts my off is they are so popular, every man and his dog has one and i like my bikes to be unique, because I am a massive bike snob.

The intense blew me away, it is so much faster on the downs and it climbs better too and i thought the Orange climed well. In every way it is better. As an all mountain bike I cant see how you can improve on this bike.

I think it is also one of the best looking bikes available, esp in red :)

I am familiar with this case via the bbc website although I have not thoroughly read this thread (cba). The issue here is that the OP has referred to the ‘driver’ and this is where this case fell down. The person who opened his door was not driving his car hense can not be considered, in the eyes of the law, as a ‘driver’.

    Just my observation.

Correct me if im wrong, but if you buy brakes off of Rose Bikes, they will be back to front continental style, ie left lever does front brake?

Intense Tracer 2!!! I expect the bob of ther attack trail is because its a single pivot..

This seller looks well odd, check outhis history – he’s sold so many bikes. I dont believe they’re his bikes at all.

I grew up in Oakham! It’s a nice place but there isnt much biking apart from the lap of the lake. Have a look at wakerley woods although it actually isn’t in Rutland. http://www.mbr.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?8092-Wakerley-Woods-Rutland-Northampton

I use answer pro taper carbon 720 AM bars on my Tracer 2 and they feel sweet. On my DH bike though i wouldn’t, carbon fails catastrophically and the shards are very sharp, possibly slitting ones wrists if they were to snap… I’ll stick with alu bars on the big bike :)

I took the cash once. Wheelies quoted me on replacement parts, and then gave me a 20% discount on the cash settlement price! I turned this around on the insurance company and pointed out wheelies charging me an extra 20% if I source the replacement parts from them.

I negotiated witht the insurance company and I settled for the cash in the end. I despise Wheelies and after 2 experiences with them I will avoid them like the plague.

Be aware that theives can easily unscrew your shed door, can easily smash your alarm in and will spend ages dismantling your bike given the opportunity. This is whats happened to me twice in the past. And once they know whats kept in your shed they will keep coming back more prepared than the last time, probably.

Its a massive ball ache and this is why i keep mine in the house now.

Th Sunday which was factory fit with totems had air sprung totems, and i’ve never ridden an air fork which matches the smoothness of a coil fork. I’ve seen a deal on the 2012 RC2 DH totems for 400 quid at winstanleys – bargain.

    Dear Wwaswas

I had a very similar injury to my hip recently, do you want me to email you some photos? I went to the doctors because I was concerned that I had done some serious injury. The doc told me it was just a significant hematoma (a bruise) and it will get better, which it has done although the discolouration got worse. I remember doing the injury, it was the worst pain i had ever felt, it felt like I had been shot and i honestly thought id broken my hip!

    Hope you get better soon!

Look at the Hope pick n mix as fivespot says. Look at the hope website and fin the technical support pdf for headsets. If you get confused phone Hope, they’re quite helpful in telling you which one you need. I did that just recently when I was looking for a headset for my new frame.

How will the bb fit into the frame if the reverb hose is in the way?

I have had this problem – I can understand it and I wouldn’t complain about it BUT, on Monday I brought some bits and bobs and chose next day delivery and paying for the privelage. I was expecting them to turn up today – but they haven’t left the shop yet. Will be on the phone later this afternoon…

Captainflashheart – Thanks. Its the second time my bike has been stripped and subsequently the parts have been sold on (I assume). Be wary people.

Its your health at stake here, its worth every penny to get it fixed asap. I have had knee troubles in the past, albeit relatively simple problems, but I have found osteopaths very helpful and they can usually see you asap. Mine costs me £40/half hour.

Thanks for the replpies peeps. I have the following comments to make in response to the above:

I would be using Fox Talas 120/160s forks. I would be using it for rides around the trail centres/peak/lake districk with the intention of getting as much fun out of the downs as is a reasonablke compromise with the climbs. I have heard the Tracer 2 is better at the climbs than the Nomad. Can anyone confirm this?

I have looked at a 5spot – i have heard the 2013 will come with more travel although its the quality of the travel not the quant. I am a big fan of a linkage rear travel system.

Dirtyboy boy i know exactly what you mean – the ccdb does seem to suck the life out of it, but i also think thats exaclty the point of the ccdb, it does its job whthout you really noticing its there.

Sorry if im not making much sense. Ive just returned from the curryhouse (ie drunk and bloated).

    Thanks again

    Ed
