the saline thing doesn't work, it's a fallacy that my mate (registrar) had a sensible explanation

back to the OP, he'll stop spewing soon, drink water and go to bed with a bucket in case… and cereal the next day not fry up.

I'm getting a rear built for my commuter for about 15quid ish labour and the same 15 quid for plain gauge spokes, double butted spokes were in the 30quid region, thats about 45p for a plain gauge spoke and 94p for a butted.

however consider the quality of their building skills vs mine given that they would build/true one a week probably and I would do mine once every 3yrs (and the cost impact of buying a truing stand..)

I would hope I never give up even if it's pootling to the shops… I'll just get a bigger spread of gears (actually I may even get gears!)

crusty old cyclists are to be wary of, they don't bother sprinting but have gazillions of years of conditioning, and can hold a tempo. Whenever my uncle Dennis (GB tricycle TT champion in the 70s, which is technically a world champ as anyone was welcome to enter :-) says 'oh I don't do racing or anything like that any more' I never believe him, he'd still hammer us all

acers are decent, as are HP – lenovo are good for the money

don't rule out budget stuff, medion are decent as all the boards are much of a muchness regardless of the brand on them (exception to this rule is dell stuff which is all made inhouse in china and it's all nonstandard stuff, so if it goes wrong it's bin time)

oh yeah, don't partition windows, just install ubuntu, it's mature enough to work fine for the uninitiated now as long as you take the time to not just give up straight away just cos it isn't windoze :)

get a fury, so much money for the bike, you may even get a grey 2009 one with the tora fork (better than the epicon imo) they're not a skinny racer but they are surprisingly versatile

check it over before you go out on it, the assembly skills of halfords staff are variable (mine were rubbish, some are decent)

1400 quid for a steel singlespeed just cos it's got colnago stickers???

400 quid ish gets you a mtm bob jackson frame, you could get some really nice wheels, wouldn't need to skimp on chainset or finishing kit and still have about 600 quid left over…..

I bet that this guy is a complete headcase and known to the police, and that this is the first thing they have pinned on him, so they are waiting for him to step out of line again (which he probably will) so then the CPS list everything in order for him to do a big stretch

Wasn't George Orwell a cyclist? I seem to remember him saying something profound about being reminded that the world isn't a bad place whenever he sees someone on a bike?

on the internet you'll never get folk to agree on this on, if there was a consensus there wouldn't be 2 options on sale!

my take is get the compact, you'll be fine.

on a mountain bike you need the inner ring and the largest sprocket to ride very hilly squidgy bits and you very rarely use it. On the tarmac it's negligable, and most importantly triples look gopping

I think (hope) we may get a full on hung which would be great – force the big 2 from being so centrist and trying to nick each others policies.. and the Lib Dems could end up a lot stronger as a result

    meh, here's hoping… in vein…..

I lived in Salford for about 4/5 yrs, when the next door neighbours in a secure block of council flats broke the door down and stole stuff and the security guards let them take all the stuff away out of the front doors in front of the guard, that was the point I decided to move…. (this was after a car being stolen out of a secure car park and also a knifepoint mugging)

I'm glad someone else out there thinks the same as me when it comes to the Sex Pistols – just another boy band put together by a manager to cash in on a trend

I don't agree that Cream or the Arctic Monkeys are rubbish but I conceed that some people go too far in thinking that they are minor deities (anyone ever heard that song by Dan le Sac and Scroobius Pip? 'just a band' :] )

ok, here's some more over rated's

Blur, one or two good songs (i.e. one an album) but a lot of filler in the albums and all that fake cockernee bullsht
    the Cure, boring
    metallica, crap
Guns N Roses, the big singles that still get played on the radio are showing their age and the rest is all toss
Paul Weller's solo stuff after the first 2 albums (Paul Weller and Wildwood are decent enough the rest are all dire and get progressively worse)
