No one is discussing price here. Pay a lot and you’ll buy a great 1x system – however a lot of people would not be able to pay those amounts.

So whn you say Tour Divide done on a 1x it’s a bit misleading.. Who knows how much that setup costs so imo opinion its not a fair comparison.

Of course if we want to be picky then yes…1x is sufficient for all. But that is only if you have the money to pay for the system that matches your needs and you’re willing to replace your whole drivetrain at a premium cost if necessary (including cranks to fit 28t if that was your need).

@nikk…you write Sorry folks, I don’t agree at all. I’m an, at best, average rider, .

    Maybe you’d be a better rider if you didn’t ride 1x. :D

@mikewsmith…not sure what the Atherton link is saying. Does she use 2x for her riding?

@swoosh..in fact, since i’ll be taking my 1x system off you’re welcome to buy it. Plenty of life left in in if you want to experiment with 1x.

My email is in my profile.

I’ve had 1x for past year and now i’m going back to 2x.

Sure I like the simplicity but 1x does not fit with my riding. If you’re into long days in the saddle with lots of climbing involved 1x is not the system.

You need a system whereby you can spin easily, thereby using less power, which subsequently uses less of your energy stores.

If i’m not mistaken 2x is still the choice for Enduro winners like Rachel Atherton for precisly this reason. Easy spinning (in a 2x system) to save energy.

So horses for courses and all that. Depends what you want from your riding.

Mmmm… men claiming it’s ok to have women used as pretty objects. Ok, I’ll believe you it’s ok and ignore all the women around the world who have a major problem with it. What do the women know anyway…they’re just good for looking pretty right…

@jonnyrockymountain…that’s interesting to read. So not boggy at all and good for a ride you say?

    edenvalleyboy

Cheers all. Figured it might be boggy considering how the terrain is. Only ridden it in dry summer weather. We’ll do something else.

    Cheers.

Screwfix Sytec Argon gloves..£5. Wore them last night and hands were amazingly toasty and whilst they’re thick gloves I had just enough dexterity for the downhills. Also the whole of the palm has a grippy texture. Not sure if I’d be wearing them in the rain but for a fiver..billy bargain!!

Just seen someone above has recommended them too.

I don’t have much faith in Mrs May and how she’ll treat people. Along with that bus telling immigrants to go home (she was responsible for it) , in the news this morning they’re discussing some leaked papers illuminating how Mrs May wanted to make all the children of illegal immigrants go to the bottom of the school waiting list pile.

@molgrips…read through the thread. The words used imply a Christian narrative of history and there is very little mention of other religious history.

    edenvalleyboy

The whole social history, progressive society thing is only the Christian perspective.

For example, in Thailand ladyboys I.e. transexuals, are revered as being the closet to the gods in that culture. They have a positive, mythical status. The complete opposite to the (historical) Christian attitude towards transexuals being deviant.

My point being, if you wish to suggest Christianity has helped the world organise and civilise itself you are looking at the world through a very narrow, and probably biased because of your personal faith, perspective.

Hi @diskjockey. Was asking because planning to meet a mate in one of the carparks by the reservoir, for a night ride. Wasn’t sure if the roads in would be a bit necky to drive down since they’re pretty steep and may be icy. So just being generally careful.

Be prepared for the whole country to be on the move the day before Christmas. We has a very busy time trying to travel to the islands down south on the 23rd/24th Dec to spend Christmas on the beach (cannot remember which date).

Essentially everyone rushes back to be with family on Christmas day. Good to see it happen but we had some of our journey hanging off the back of buses.

@sesosmah77…do you have faith/are religious etc?

    edenvalleyboy

@sesomah77…you are correct. I am using my own belief system. It’s called logic, reasoning and evidence based knowledge. Something a group of people chanting in an old building and believing in an ancient book clearly aren’t practising. :D

People are welcome to have faith but the guidance part is loopy. Her argument is the same as a member of ISIS , why Catholics in many places still treat abortions the way they do and why a place like Russia treats homosexuals brutually.

We don’t need religion to guide us ethically and morally.

If on your death bed you’ll look back fondly on the cars you’ve owned in your life – then go for it.

Otherwise don’t bother. Give some money to charity and make yourself feel better in a way that owning a special car probably never will.

When will it stop? Clearing the debt if possible is fine, but what happens if he accrues more debt? Will the debt keep coming to you until you’re in financial difficulty too?

Very compicated. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Two years ago went back to a hardtail (from having two full-sussers) for a change. It’s now my only bike and I love it way more than I thought I would. For now I can’t see myself going back to a FS and am starting to think about my next hardtail purchase. Yet to come across a section of trail that makes me wish I had a FS.

No surprise. Rich people arguing poverty isn’t as bad as it really is and its the manipulation of figures….

Major factor in these disagreements is the reliance on stats. Typical example….a working stw member reads a (biased on left or right) newspaper and comes to a conclusion. I’d bet that if that person actually went and spent some time with people in a homeless persons hostel, soup kitchen, mental health ward, walked the streets taking the time to get to get to know the lives and back stories of these people they have an opinion on, said opinion would change and you’d realise life is shit out there for many many people (which is unacceptable in a country with so much money)…and a lot of it is because of issues that are out of their control.

There’s been alot of chat on these political threads accusing Labour of anti-semitism. I wonder how those accusers and defenders of Trump feel about Stephen Bannon? I await the hypocrisy…

These days it seems a waste of time being bothered about the promises the people in power make. Often empty promises to gain the power and then they are never truly held to account (apart from by the opposition)..e.g. @jamba will always moan aabout Labour’s cock-ups and lies but hypocritically disrgeard his own Tory parties lies and cock-ups as if they’re the perfect example of a political party.

When Trump is unable to deliver his promises he’ll simply blame all those around him and walk away with all his suporters forgiving him blaming the opposition too.

    It’s blinkered tribal politics.

Seriously @jambayla..you really do peddle lies and use emotive language for your own ideology….”Uncontrolled immigration in UK” (a complete lie)…FFS stop using language that stirs up hatred and racism…you should be ashamed of yourself.

The way I finally quit was by being distracted. Had tried and failed for two years. Went travelling and stopped instantly without even thinking about it. Mad hey. I was too busy having time of my lfe and away from my normal environment. Good insight into how behaviours are formed and upheld…

Good luck Yunki. I was a heavy smoker for 15 years…(16-30 yrs old)..have given up for past ten years and for me biggest reward is the fact I don’t have that constant nagging internally that I’m doing something bad for me..didn’t stop me needing a (very scary) lung cancer test a few months ago because I had unexplained cough*..good luck…

*turned out is was due to using the turbo in a dusty garage!!

I am afraid all the facts have been presented with the people deciding the right facts is to exit.

Er, what post Referendum reporting have you been reading/watching – the kids news? Both sides agree that the facts were not presented correctly, accurately and in full.
