Really appreciate all the responses.. Been some great ideas of tyres to look at and techy stuff to get around..

I think I was going off track – my take now is that essentially I apply same logic to tubeless as i do now to my current tubes setup (beefier up front and slimmer out back) but, crucially, remember that lower pressures will affect my sidewalls and I need to ensure the walls are tough enough to cope with this squash…

    Hi nemesis,

    Cheers fot post.

My logic was that I’ve always run minimum 2.35 on the front and I was thinking I could go to 2.2 up front – and with a lower pressure roll faster but not get any punctures (that I might get if I had tubes in).

If my logic is wrong here by all means say so..

Agree with other post. Top end of Lowther Street, near the Beacon, is a good as place as any. It’s free. Penrith’s a pretty safe place.

I had my gallbladder removed a couple of years ago.

Hope op goes well and healing too..

My tip would be to stay of the fatty food and eat little and often (otherwise you’ll bloat up)..

Healing for me was about six weeks…

I leant to drive in a 2cv (my dad used one for his landscaping business as a waagon for his tools)..

Never forget aged 17, passed test, took mates for drive and we had to cross a dual carriageway. Foot down, car hardly moving across the road and a car bearing down on us fast. All my mates proceeded to properly scream like Jessie’s….we made it across thankfully.

Great fun to drive, cornering hilarious…

    Thanks for all the replies.

With all responses, and more thought about what I need it for, I realise I’m looking for something like an Alpkit Possum bag. I do want something I can take on long day trips in the hills but still only have my water on my back…

    Cheers all…

I once heard that a guy didn’t like next doors cat. So in the dead of night he cat napped him, drove thirty miles down the road and let the cat out. For a few weeks he then heard his neighbour going “kitty kitty” but after that no cat problem.

Maybe you should do the same?

We have a Montana too. I know not the same model but I’d buy another Outwell model based on our experience of the Montana…

The more stylish or good looking usually means more money.

More money comes from more work.

No way I want to work more just for a prettier bit of metal.

So yep, ugly cars as long as they’re practical are fine for me!

No – unless plastic style mountaineering boots – everyboot will eventually let in water if trekked in wet conditions over a long period of time…its just some boots will stay drier for longer than others..

Work out what you want from the situation – then base all decisions around achieving those goals E.g. If you want to see your children as much as possible then live as close as you can etc…

I never went back to them (LBS) based on that. Although apart from the wheel issue I do nearly everything else myself anyway..

Njee – that’s why nonTrek LBS gave it back. Didn’t want to hit with hammer..maybe I should take my balls out of my handbag and just get on with the hammer..

Good info re comparable wheels. Totally right – should solve access problem. Otherwise waste of money.

Njee20 – it’s a tool to get a cap off to access bearings.

    I see your point jimjam.

Double plonker -minds elsewhere. Bontranger Rythym Comp wheels. Can I put Hope Hubs on these? Cheers.

Nope – I’m being a plonker. WTB were off another bike.

I have Bontranger TLR wheels. Can I just put Hope hubs on these to get around hub problem?

Interesting rocket man. I run WTB rims now and they have been pretty good. It’s the stupid non-servicebale-by-me hub (they were off a Trek Ex8 and need a ‘key’ to service and i cannot get it from anywhere. Even an LBS i went to gave up on them one time) that irritates me and hence the new wheel’s.

Can I just put Hope hubs on them then?

I’m 5ft 9in and ride a Soul medium. It’s just the right size – reckon if I was your height I’d be riding a large.

    Hi,

    Thanks fo post.

Budget? Medium? I haven’t loads but am happy to spend if I know they’ll last. I do believe ‘buy cheap buy twice’is true for a lot of stuff.

    Size. 26″ and standard qr.

To add to CinnamonGirls point earlier re. Health in schools.

My viewpoint is that our western medical model of health essentially means we actually have sick care and not health care.

I.e we invest far more in pills and cures instead of investing in trying to help people stay ‘healthy’ e.g. cheap gym memberships, cheaper childcare to allow parents to get out more, better street lighting to help individuals feel safer when going to a gym\class in the dark, cycle lanes etc.

I guess it’s all down to the fact the most powerful in society set the terms and conditions and within a neoliberalist society the people setting these terms are the huge corporations etc with their agenda of bank balances….

The pub beneath Blencathra , near Threkheld, on the A66 where everyone parks to walk over Sharp edge has recently built cabins (behind it) for renting. Not seen inside but worth investigating.

    Ourmaninthenorth…

You are correct about it never being black and white – however, if you have internalised the logic of the system..through your socialisation of societal norms..norms which are based on capatalist ideologies and spread pernicously through the neo-liberalist agenda of the politicians (and most powerful of society)…then your perceptions of what is possible is skewed towards the agenda you have internalised..you do not know what a more positive alternative reality could be and how MORE rewarding it could be (compared to the logic that work is rewarding your life..

    Two points

    1) On your death bed – will you look back and remember the time spent in an office and the things you’ve owned (like a flash car) OR the experiences you’ve had, places you’ve been, people you’ve met, positive relationships with your family etc..

    2) More you earn, the richer you die.

Apologies if this has been said already.

Be aware of the higher maintenance/servicing/mending costs of fsussers. You’ve double the expensive shock components, plus all the extra frame bearings.

Don’t suppose either of you two are in Macclesfield Wheelers? I’ve just moved to the area and want to tag along on some midweek evening rides. Emailed their admin but had no response.

I lived on the South Island for a couple of years and my advice would be to not cram too much into your 6 dsys. On the map the distances look relatively small between towns etc but it always takes longer than you think because they are just big A roads and you’ll get stuck behind other users. Couple that with unpredicatable weather and you could end up driving around alot and not actualy seeing much cos you have to keep moving on. I met alot of people who wished they’d had a smaller itineray due to the above.

Awesome place though and you’ll love it…
